Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20 Saint James is a congregation whose mission is to: Make, nurture, and mature loving followers of Jesus Christ. This is why we believe we exist. Not to make friends, although that will happen. Not to be big and impressive because that really doesn t matter. We exist because we believe Jesus meant what he said in Matthew 28:19-20. It is not Saint James mission but the worldwide church s mission. So, what does it look like for us, Saint James, to live into this mission. First it takes connecting. Connecting to God and to others as the family of God. This is because becoming a loving follower of Jesus does not take place in solo. It takes God & Community. It is when we connect folks to worship and life groups where the Spirit makes followers of Jesus. This is the making component of our mission. Next it takes caring. Do we really care about people s lives? Do we know where they are hurting? Do we care? Do we know people who don t know God? Why not? Do we care? Are we trying to be open to the Spirit s movement to meet new people and care about their walk with Jesus? Caring means we shine the light of Christ wherever we go, encouraging and welcoming folks to worship, spiritual growth and community through life groups. This is the nurturing component of the mission. Finally, there is committing to living a life in faith and service, not to be saved but because we are saved. Commitment points to the last component of our mission maturity. This is vital, because the other two items, making and nurturing, usually require folks working into maturity to accomplish them. SUMMER SCHEDULE May will begin our summer schedule for Wednesday evenings. We will NOT gather for a meal but will still have Worship at 6:30 followed by DLT groups at 7:00 pm Change for Red Bird Mission Trip We will once again be collecting loose change for the summer months all money collected will be used for the Red Bird Mission project in September. So, this month, consider where you are in the mission of Saint James. Are you making, nurturing and maturing? Are you connecting, caring and committing? Are you being faithful so God can make us fruitful? I am so excited to see God s Holy Spirit moving in so many lives and the transformation taking place here at Saint James. I am so excited that I get to serve as your pastor and fellow servant. I can t wait to see what God will do this coming year. And I can t wait for us all to begin living into this mission and vision that God has given us. Pastor Shirley Making, Nurturing and Maturing with you, Pastor Shirley

This course will be taught by Rod Groom, Conference Director for Lay Servant Ministries. Cost is $35.00, for class, book and meal.
