But thine be evil, thy shall be full of the even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect" (Matthew 5:48). And, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness" (Matthew 6:33). For, "They that are Christ's have the with the affections and lusts" (Galatians 5:24). Therefore, "put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof" (Romans 14). Listen to the words of Nephi, a man who was highly favored of God and who walked in righteousness. One would suppose he was relatively free of the sins and temptations which plagued his rebellious brothers. Says he, "... 0 wretched man that I am; yea, my heart sorroweth because of my fiesh. My soul grieveth because of mine iniquities. I am encompassed about because of the temptations and the sins which doth so easily beset me. And when I desire to rejoice, my heart groaneth because of my sins; nevertheless, I know in whom I have trusted. My God hath been my support; he hath led me through derness; and he hath preme the great deep. filled me with his love, even unto the consuming of my fiesh. He hath confounded.. mine enemies, causing of them to quake me. Behold, heard my cry by day, and he hath given me knowledge by visions in the night time. And by day have I waxed bold in mighty prayer before him; yea, my voice have I sent up on high; and angels came down and ministered unto me. And upon the wings of his Spirit hath my body been carried away upon exceeding high mountains. And mine eyes have beheld great things; yea, even too great for man; the ref ore I was bidden that I should not write them. 0 then, if I have seen so great things; if the Lord in his condescension unto the children of men, hath visited me in so much mercy, why should my heart weep, and my soul linger in the valley of sorrow, and my fiesh waste away, and my strength slacken, because of mine affiictions? And why should I yield to sin, because of my fiesh? Yea, why should I give way to temptations, that the evil one have place in my heart, to destroy my peace and affiict my soul? Why am I angry because of mine enemy? Awake, my soul! No longer droop in sin. Rejoice, 0 my heart, and give more for " ever; yea, Joice in thee, my God, the rock of my salvation. 0 Lord, wilt thou redeem my soul? Wilt thou deliver me out of the hands of mine enemies? Wilt thou make me that I may shake at the appearance of sin? May the gates of hell be shut continually before me, because that my heart is broken and my spirit is contrite? 0 Lord, wilt thou not shut the gates of thy righteousness before me, that I may walk in the path of the low valley, that I may be strict in the plain road? 0 Lord, wilt thou encircle me around in the robe of thy righteousness? 0 Lord, wilt thou make a way for mine escape before mine enemies? Wilt thou make my path straight before me? Wilt thou not place a stumbling block in my way? But that thou wouldst clear my way before me, and hedge not up my way, but the ways of mine enemy. 0 Lord, I have trusted in thee, and I will trust in thee ever" (2 Nephi 3:48-61). -36-

NEWS II G reetings from Phoenix! We saw in the year 2000 at church with food, games, looking at old slides of when we were all a little younger and a lot skinnier, songs and a prayer service. Elections have been held and Gordon Mccann remains our Pastor, with Priest Glen Orsted and Elder Bob Hedrick elected to serve as Assistant Pastors. Bob and his wife Liza are the proud parents of Phoenix's first Millennium baby, Travis James Hedrick, born January 11. In September of this year Apostle Joel Yates and Elder Bob Hedrick made a missionary trip to Oregon. They met with some of our regular members and some young people who have been studying the gospel. At the end of October and early November Apostle Yates was accompanied by Priest Dewayne Ely to Palmer, Alaska. They held services there with the "Old Saints" group, a group composed of Church of Christ members and people from other groups of the Restoration who are searching. Apostles Joel Yates and Brian Mclndoo also made a short trip to Grand Junction, Colorado. While ministering to the people there they were blessed with the joy of ordaining David Larsen to the office of elder. 12th PHOENIX, ARIZONA office of Elder. Elder Adan1 Porter assisted in the ordination. Everyone there enjoyed the fellowship so much that they decided it might be a good idea for this to. grow into a yearly tradition, the Ontario Reunion. During the rest of his trip Elder Oar was also able to visit brothers and sisters in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Rochester, New York and Bradley, Michigan. Elder Oar also traveled with his wife to Missouri on December 26th to assist in the baptism of Rachelle Bruner. Rachelle was baptized by Elder Gerry Case and confirmed by Brother Oar. Apostle Brian Mclndoo and Elder Rodger Bruner were on the missionary road from September 29th through November 1st Their first stop was the Treasure Valley Local in Idaho. They ministered to the regular congregation and met with a couple who were interested in learning about the church. We are grateful here in Phoenix to have been able to contribute $1,660 toward a new church home for the Treasure Valley local. From Treasure Valley the brothers went on to minister to and share fellowship with brothers and sisters in Toppenish, Washington; Cataldo, Idaho; agnosed with terminal liver cancer. We have much special prayer for our sister here in Phoenix. Although most of us have never met Rita, she has become very important to us. Apostle Jay Moser and Elder Ken Oar also made a short trip to the Navajo Nation to minister to our brothers and sisters there. They were somewhat encouraged by the trip. Priest Jim Yates Jr. and his wife Kim and family were blessed with the opportunity to turn a fall family vacation into a missionary trip. The Yates' visited church brothers and sisters throughout the Pacific northwest, often arriving just before or just after brothers Mclndoo and Bruner. Double fellowship and double blessings for everyone. On October 5th, Apostles Don Mclndoo and Frank Fann traveled to Mexico. On October 10th a Yucatan Reunion was held. 1\vo hundred people from nine different locals attended, with two new sisters being baptized by Brother Fann: Marcelina Briceno of Mayapan and Alberta Ucan of Uayalceh. Dennis and Betsy Trudgen also joined to help the work this trip. Betsy assisted in a children's study class. We are happy to report that they returned with the news that our brothers and sisters there made the decision to construct a church building. Plans were made to purchase and dear a three acre plot of land near the church community. also rejoice in the addition of new sisters to the family of Christ. On October 26th, Duke Maria Carbajal, Maria Magdalena Palma Sevilla, and Lilian Damaris Ardon Aguilera entered the waters of baptism. Life for Hondurans is still filled with hardship and sometimes even danger. Our brothers and sisters there need the Lord's blessing in the gospel work. The returning missionaries asked that we remember the work there in special so in October the came to a of five new brothers and sisters into the family of Christ. This was a family all the way. Bobby Riley entered the waters baptism, along sons, Shawn and Cody, and his daughter son-in-law, Shanna and Jeremy Kelley. Elder Hubert Yates performed the baptisms with he and Apostle Smith Brickhouse confirming the new members. [ C hange is in the air. As the churches elect their new pastors and assistants, we wish them each God Speed, and they will be able with joy to accomplish their duties, and that they each will strengthened and blessed by the Holy Spirit of God. As each new year dawns, we are closer to His return, closer to prophecies being fulfilled, to major change. To have care of the locals is a big responsibility; your love for us doth abound in good works, and we so appreciate your years of service as you continually edify us and prepare us. Andy Brown will be our pastor this year, with Jim Yates, Jr. assisting. both have dedicated so much time to us, and do still show their love towards God and us. Recent visitors have been Ken and Marlene Oar, Bob Hedrick,Jay and Chris Moser, Bob Oldham and Gordon Mccann. There have been so many MOGOLLON, ARIZONA sermons and discussions. Jay brought up a very interesting point about why Peter began to sink in the water: it was because he did not obey the Lord when He told him to "Come." It was a simple. command, but a command nonetheless. I have something I would like to share with you. It is in the front of a Gideons Bible. It is what they and we believe, and should be read to our children and practiced by all. "THE BIBLE contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners, and the happiness of believers. Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding, its histories are true, and its decisions are immutable. Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you. It is the traveler's map, the pilgrim's staff, the pilot's compass, the soldier's sword, and the Christian's charter. is restored, Heaven opened, and the gates of hell disclosed. CHRIST is its grand subject, our good the design, and the glory of God its end. It should fill the memory, rule the and guide the feet. Read it slowly, frequently, and prayerfully. It is a mine wealth, a paradise of glory, and a river of pleasure. It is given you in life, will be opened at the judgment, and be remembered forever. It involves the highest responsibility, will reward the greatest labor, and will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents." If we could convey this message to the world, and 0, that they would receive it! In this new year may ears be opened and hearts restored. Remember: you and Christ make the majority.
