Touring Day Prayer Services Supreme Court/Capitol Building

Introduction Leader: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. All: Leader: May the Lord grant us peace, now and forever. All: Leader: Now gathered together at the Supreme Court/Capitol Building we pray together for our country, it s leaders and the future of the United States of America. Heavenly Father, we give thanks for the democracy alive in our country and for the freedom to worship You. Help the elected government and all in positions of power and authority to govern wisely and for the common good of all. Reading Reader: A reading from the prophet Zechariah. Intercessions Thus says the LORD of hosts: Judge with true justice, and show kindness and compassion toward each other. Do not oppress the widow or the orphan, the resident alien or the poor; do not plot evil against one another in your hearts.

Reader 2: For the people of the United States, that we may be united in building a society in which everyone can have the opportunity to live with dignity and hope, we pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. For the Church, that we may be a witness to Christ's love by practicing charity and promoting justice and peace throughout the world, we pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. For Catholics throughout our nation, that the values of our faith may guide us as we exercise our responsibility as voters, we pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. For the members of this community, that we may find ways to help build a world of greater respect for human life and human dignity, we pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. For those who serve in elected office, that they may lead with courage and wisdom, reflecting the Church's teaching that the moral test of our society is how the weak, the poor, and the vulnerable are faring, we pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. For all who have been elected to public office, that they might use their offices to protect the unborn and promote the dignity of the poor and vulnerable, we pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. For the earth, that our nation's leaders will be inspired by God's Spirit to protect all of His creation, we pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. For workers around the world, especially children who work long hours for little pay, that we might all seek ways to promote fairness, justice, and dignity in their lives, we pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

For leaders around the world, that they might find ways to bring an end to war and violence, and promote peace and development for all nations. We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. Leader: Lord, bless our nation. Help us to hear and respond to your call to take care of those most in need as together we pray All: Our Father Conclusion Prayer for our Nation's Leaders, by Corinne McLaughlin & Gordon Davidson May we as a nation be guided by the Divine to rediscover the sacred flame of our national heritage, which so many have given their lives to safeguard;

Let the wounds of separation and division be healed by opening our hearts to listen to the truth on all sides, allowing us to find a higher truth that includes all; May we learn to honor and enjoy our diversity and differences as a people, even as we more deeply touch our fundamental unity; May we, as a people, undergo a transformation that will draw forth individuals to lead our nation who embody courage, compassion, and a higher vision; May our leaders inspire us, and we so inspire each other with our potential as individuals and as a nation, that a new spirit of forgiveness, caring, and honesty be born in our nation; May we as a nation rededicate ourselves to truly living as one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. And may God's Will be done for the United States, as we, the people, align with that Will. Leader: May God bless us with his mercy, strengthen us with his love, and enable us to walk in charity and peace. All: In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
