Welcome in the name of Jesus Christ! We thank God that you have joined us this morning for worship. If you are visiting with us, we thank God you are here and pray our worship together will be a mutual blessing. If you are looking for a church home, we hope Abiding Savior can meet your needs. Please introduce yourself to one of the Pastors. We ask both members and visitors to kindly fill out attendance cards and pass them to the center aisle. The ushers will gather them during the Sermon Hymn which follows the Children s Message. Feel free to add a prayer request for the Pastor to include in the congregational prayer. We love children here at Abiding Savior. Parents are encouraged to sit in the front pews so that young children can see what is happening during worship. Text: Francis Scott Key, 1779-1843, alt. Tune: John Darwall, 1731-89; setting: William H. Monk, 1823-89 Text & Music: Public Domain LSB 966 Used by Permission. I will praise the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. 2

Pastor: Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. When his breath departs he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish. Pastor: Blessèd is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God, who made heaven h and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who keeps faith forever; Pastor: who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets the prisoners free; the LORD opens the eyes of the blind. The LORD lifts up those who are bowed down; the LORD loves the righteous. Pastor: The LORD watches over the sojourners; he upholds the widow and the fatherless, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. The LORD will reign forever, your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the LORD ORD! Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. Worshippers are invited to kneel for the Confession and Absolution. Those who desire not to kneel may sit or stand. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION Pastor: As children of God who desire to be at peace with our Lord, with ourselves, and with all people, let us come with confidence before the throne of grace to confess our sins and to receive absolution. Almighty God, who speaks peace to His people, Your salvation is near to all who fear You. We know well that we are by nature sinful and unclean and that we have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed. Grant us Your mercy, and spare us from the just punishment t of our sin, which our Lord Jesus Christ has borne for us on the cross. Renew us by Your Holy Spirit that we may walk in the way of peace both now and forever. Pastor: God has promised to grant His forgiveness to all who repent of their sins and turn to Him for mercy. As a called and ordained servant of Christ and by His authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. God, please keep us in perfect peace, lead us in ways of faith and obedience, and bring us to live with Him forever, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. 3

HYM YMN OF PRAISE Gracious God, You Send Great Blessings Text: Gregory J. Wismar, b. 1946 Tune: Columbian Harmony, Cincinnati, 1825; setting: Worship & Rejoice, Carol Stream, 2001 Text: 2004 Gregory J. Wismar Music: Public domain LSB 782 Used by Permission. LSBHymnLicense.net #100012189 SALUTATION AND COLLECT Pastor: The Lord be with you. And also with you. Pastor: Let us pray. Almighty and ever-living God, You have given exceedingly great and precious promises to those who trust in You. Grant us so firmly to believe in Your Son Jesus that our faith may never be found wanting; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. FIRST READING 1 KINGS 17:8-16 16 Then the word of the LORD came to him, Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to feed you. So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, Bring me a little water in a vessel, that I may drink. 4

And as she was going to bring it, he called to her and said, Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand. And she said, As the LORD your God lives, I have nothing baked, only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. And now I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it and die. And Elijah said to her, Do not fear; go and do as you have said. But first make me a little cake of it and bring it to me, and afterward make something for yourself and your son. For thus says the LORD the God of Israel, The jar of flour shall not be spent, and the jug of oil shall not be empty, until the day that the LORD sends rain upon the earth. And she went and did as Elijah said. And she and he and her household ate for many days. The jar of flour was not spent, neither did the jug of oil become empty, according to the word of the LORD that he spoke by Elijah. Lector: This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. EPISTLE READIN EADING HEBREWS 9:24-28 28 For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own, for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him. Lector: This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. We stand for the Holy Gospel: HOLY GOSPEL MARK 12:38-44 Pastor: The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, chapter twelve. 5

READING OF HOLY GOSPEL In his teaching [Jesus] said, Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes and like greetings in the marketplaces and have the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts, who devour widows houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation. And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. And he called his disciples to him and said to them, Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on. Pastor: This is the Gospel of the Lord! Worshippers are invited to stand and share the peace of the lord with each other. Children can come down to the chancel steps for the children s message. CHILDREN HILDREN S MESSAGE Prayer and member/guest cards will be collected during the singing of the following hymn: SERMON HYMN Take My Life and Let It Be Take my will and make it Thine, It shall be no longer mine; Take my heart, it is Thine own, It shall be Thy royal throne. Take my love, my Lord, I pour At Thy feet its treasure store; Take myself, and I will be Ever, only, all for Thee. Text: Frances R. Havergal, 1836-79 Music: William H. SERMON A Matter of Faith Mark 12:41-44 REV EV. GLENN LUCAS APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. GARING OF OUR TIS AND OFFERINGS God doesn t need our money, but in His grace He gives us the privilege to be stewards of everything He has entrusted to our care. We can do more together than separately. As one body in Christ, our congregation has agreed to offer our first fruits to support ministries and missions that enable us to communicate Christ s love to everyone, everywhere; and our love for Him. Your sacrificial gift enables this holy work. MUSICAL OFFERING Simple Gifts arr. Valerie Stephenson KINGDOM RINGERS II II A TRIBUTE TO OUR VETERANS PRAYERS Pastor: Let us pray for the whole people of God, and for all people according to their needs. After each petition: Pastor: Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer. Pastor: Into Your hands, O Lord, we commend ourselves and all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. Pastor: We pray together, Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory for ever and ever. Amen. 7
