Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you shall find; knock and the door will be opened to you. (Jesus words in Matthew 7: 7-8) How is your faith? My guess is that each of us needs to be stronger in this area. The Bible says that we receive not because we ask not. At least we often don t ask in faith! Pastor John Neil had a church that was struggling with a great debt. One day a stranger came to his office and said he was aware of the church s financial struggles and offered to help. He put a blank check on the pastor s desk and then said, Make the check out for the full amount needed and I will come back later and sign it. Pastor Neil said, I couldn t believe what had just happened. Did this man really mean it? Does he realize our debt is thousands of dollars? Wouldn t it be taking advantage of him? I ll just make the check out for half of the debt. And after much thought that s what he did. When the stranger returned he signed the check with no hesitation whatsoever. Later the pastor found out that the man was actually a well-known philanthropist. When the pastor realized who the man was and that he was fully capable of paying the debt in full he wished he had made the check out for the full amount the church owed. Isn t that a little bit like our relationship to God? We say things like, I don t want to bother God with this problem? or God really isn t interested in my little life. The Bible promises exactly the opposite. God is interested in the smallest details of our lives. We need to simply believe that God means it when He says, Let me in on your problems. I promise all of my resources to be at your disposal. May God increase your faith. May God be with you..pastor Dennis SERMON TOPICS August 6 (Matthew 4:1-2, 18-19, 23) Matthew 26:36,40-46,50b Pastor Gone on Vacation Becoming a Slinky Christian (Clay Winterboer) We will examine Jesus model for living a purposeful Christian life that gets you more in tune with God. We will compare how that relates to the ageless toy, a slinky. August 13 - (Acts 4:29-31) Luke 11:1-10 Pastor Gone on Vacation BE BOLD (Jason Bush) August 20-(Psalm 147:5-11) Matthew 15:21-28 Leaning on the Grace of God Jesus, when approached by a woman whose daughter was possessed by demonic powers, seems to be astonished by the faith of this Canaanite woman. Here faith was shown by her trust in the overwhelming mercy and grace of God. Do we lean on God s grace? August 27- (John 3:16-18) Matthew 16:13-17 Making It Personal HOLY COMMUNION The Christian faith is not what our parents believed or our grandparents believed or what others believe. It is what we believe and it is a personal relationship with Christ.

Ingathering Time at our Church This is the 38th year of the United Methodist Church following God's expectations of caring for our neighbors through providing United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) ingathering kits. School kits provide tools for education, which changes lives. In countries where children don't have books, school supplies or classrooms, a school kit may their only educational resource. UMCOR Layette kits provide women with basic supplies for the needs of their new babies. We will be packing UMCOR layette kits this year, so we will need double of most items. Kits include the following items: 6 cloth diapers (We will need lots of these.) 2 sleepers or gowns (size 0-3 months) 2 onesie or shirts (size 0-3 months) 2 receiving blankets (30 x 30 or 32 x 32 ) 2 baby-size washcloths 2 diaper pins with plastic closures 1 baby sweater or jacket with front opening (Note that this is a new item.) Please watch for sales of these items during the summer months. Donations can be placed in the basket in the office on Main Street. School supplies will go on sale later in July. Ingathering school kits include the following items: 3 notebooks (8½ x 11 ) Wide lined 1-30 cm metric ruler 1 box of 24 crayons (ONLY 24) 1-2½ or larger eraser 1 blunt-end scissors (metal blades) 1 hand pencil sharpener (1 or larger) 6 unsharpened pencils with erasers Stock up while items are on sale. If you are interested in donating locally New Opportunities Carroll County Family Development Center will collecting the following items. >back pack (no wheels) >dry erase markers >Clorox wipes & hand sanitizer >crayons (8 or 16 count) >calculator >pens (red, blue, black) >Elmer s glue or glue stick >colored pencils >index cards (lined 3x5) >folders with pockets >markers >3 ring binder (1, 2,3 ) >Kleenex >pencil box/case >notebook paper (loose leaf) >highlighters >scotch tape Items may be placed in the basket with school kit ingathering donations. The mission team will sort and deliver items. More About Ingathering Our church is amazing about what we have sent to Ingathering in the past. So let s make this year just as amazing! There are many ways and opportunities for you to help: You can donate money if you don t care to go shopping or want to help with the shipping costs. Put your school colors on for the July 30 th kick off contest to see which team can fill the school bags. The school bags go to UMCOR, to children around the world. 100 items (ex: 6 pencils equals 1 point) or $50 is a touchdown. Contest starts July 30 th and goes to September 9 th. Support your team and help a child learn. You could be a shopper extraordinaire finding all the good bargains for the school kits and/or the layettes. You could come on Wednesday, July 19th and sew the school bags or cut out the patterns. You could knit or crochet the little sweaters needed for the layette kits. You could help box up all the supplies in the fall. Let s all be a part of this and make it amazing!

VBS at FUMC Maker Fun Factory VBS has come to a close. Lessons were learned, and friends were made as we spent the week exploring God s world through Science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Check out the photos of our activities the children were involved in on our website: carrollunitedmethodist.org We would like to thank everyone for their support of VBS. From the 52 helpers that we had throughout the week to the parents that sent their children, to those of you that gave us donations and for all the prayers! With your help we reached 103 different children throughout the week. The children came together and raised $700 for Kellan s Kingdom, which will be an all inclusive Playground here in Carroll! Since construction began on the renovations, please excuse the mess and inconvenience. Many different groups have been here throughout the month working on the updates to the church. There is an old saying, To make progress you have to make a MESS, at times that has been true. As projects get completed please feel free to check out the progress. Administrative Council met on July 16 th to discuss more remodeling bids. They accepted a bid from CEC for the audio visual remodel. They will be working with Warnke Construction during the sanctuary remodel. A bid from Gene Schultes was accepted for kitchen remodel and will likely start in January or February. Drees got the bid for air conditioners and furnaces.

Book Club Info further down Don t consider yourself a teacher? If you have kids or are around kids, you are teaching them by word and example even if you don t have a teaching degree. Teaching Sunday School is a relaxed setting with lessons laid out for you. The structure is in place to help you but there is a broad flexible scope allowing you to make the class your own. Our classes start on September 17 th. Please prayerfully consider teaching. Just bring your kids and stay yourself. Lots of teacher volunteers would make having a weekend away easy. Let s do it! The Heavenly Bound Book Club invites you to join in the discussion... The August dates are Tuesday the 15th, at 11:00 AM or come Thursday, the 17th at noon. Both sessions are held at Queen Beans. The Queen Beans Coffee Bar provides a private room (sometimes) and great food. Our August book is: Redeeming Love By Francine Rivers California's gold country, 1850. A time when men sold their souls for a bag of gold and women sold their bodies for a place to sleep. Angel expects nothing from men but betrayal. Sold into prostitution as a child she survives by keeping her hatred alive. And what she hates most are the men who use her, leaving her empty and dead inside. Then she meets Michael Hosea. A man who seeks his Father's heart in everything, Michael obeys God's call to marry Angel and to love her unconditionally. Slowly, day by day, he defies Angel's every bitter expectation, until despite her resistance, her frozen heart begins to thaw. But with her unexpected softening come overwhelming feelings of unworthiness and fear. And so Angel runs. Back to the darkness, away from her husband's pursuing love, terrified of the truth she no longer can deny: Her final healing must come from the One who loves her even more than Michael does... the One who will never let her go.
