Fasting requires that only one full meal be taken per day. Two other smaller meals may be taken during the day to maintain physical strength, but these two meals together should not equal a Full Meal in quantity. Fasting obliges all those who have reached the age of 18 and continues to oblige until 59. Those not specially obliged to fast are encouraged to join in the discipline of fasting to the extent that they are able. Abstinence prohibits individuals from eating meat on particular days. Abstinence obliges all those who have reached the age of 14 and continues to oblige throughout their entire life. Those not specially obliged to abstain from eating meat are encouraged to join in this discipline to the extent they are able. ASH WEDNESDAY and GOOD FRIDAY are days of fast and abstinence.

Announcements!! FILM SERIES SUNDAY @ 2:30 MSGR. BOYLE MEDIA CENTER (In the School Building, Enter using the Ramp @ 207th Street) FEBRUARY 26: 1 Hour, 42 Minutes CASABLANCA (1942) In World War II Casablanca, Rick Blaine, exiled American and former freedom fighter, runs the most popular nightspot in town. The cynical lone wolf Blaine comes into the possession of two valuable letters of transit. When Nazi Major Strasser arrives in Casablanca, the sycophantic police Captain Renault does what he can to please him, including detaining a Czechoslovak underground leader, Victor Laszlo. Much to Rick's surprise, Lazslo arrives with Ilsa, Rick's one time love. Rick is very bitter towards Ilsa, who ran out on him in Paris, but when he learns she had good reason to, they plan to run off together again using the letters of transit. Well, that was their original plan. MARCH 5: 1 Hour, 25 Minutes THE FAMILY MAN (2000) Dr. Patrick Stowe runs a private fertility clinic that has recently celebrated its 2000th live birth. His business is successful and he is passionate about helping his patients. His home life is less than successful, however. Driven by work, he seems to care more about his patients than his own family. His wife has left him and his two teenage children are on the verge of giving up hope that he will ever be a real dad to them. In the world of the fertility, many couples are desperate to have a child. It puts a strain on their relationships and forces many to compromise their beliefs in order to attain their goal. Some will pay any amount and make any sacrifice to have a child. LEISURE CLUB RETURNS!- MARCH 1ST from 1:00pm - 2:30pm St. Brendan Convent Cost: $3.00 per Meeting ALL ARE WELCOME!!!!! KATHERINE DREXEL ISAIAH 58:1-9A MATTHEW 9:14-15 SCRIPTURE INSIGHTS Today s readings focus on trust and trustworthiness, and challenge or ability to let go of earthly worries and trust in God s care. Today s short passage from Isaiah is a conversation between Zion, who represents the whole people, and God. The people cry out, believing that God has forsaken them, and God s response is immediate and reassuring. To describe the intimate and tender love of God for the people, the author uses the image of a mother nursing her child quite a change from the more usual male images of God we see in Scripture. If we often cry out as Zion did, wondering if God has forsaken us, then the conviction of today s psalmist is our spiritual refuge. We see his (or her) confidence repeated in each verse: the only place to find strength is in the Lord. Summing up all of these repeated assurances, the psalmist concludes by entreating all people to trust in the Lord. To help them understand their ministry, Paul presents the Corinthians with the image of a steward. They, like stewards, have been entrusted with the mysteries of God, and so they must Be found trustworthy. It is a heavy but exhaled responsibility. But the judgment of that trustworthiness must come from God, not from humans. Paul advises that human judgment be deferred, for God will illuminate the true motives of all his stewards when he comes. Jesus uses a delightful comparison between nature (the birds, the wild flowers, and the grasses) and humans to teach the importance of trust in the providence of God. His instruction to the disciples has two layers. First, the disciple cannot serve the things of God and the things of the world. Focusing anxiously on physical desires excludes God. Second, there is no need to do this anyway. God knows what is needed and provides for those who trust. Which image of the tenderness of the Lord inspires you most? FIRST SATURDAY MARCH 4, 2017 ST.
