President s letter Dear friends, In 2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV), we read these words: For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. It seems the world gets a little scarier every day. Anyone who monitors the day s events, and the tone that those events are relayed to us, could not be blamed for feeling uneasy about the direction we as a people are heading. This verse from 2 Timothy was the first thing I would see in the morning for many years. It was written on a handmade plaque which hung on my bedroom wall, and I would read it before my feet hit the ground. It was a daily reminder that the fear of this world does not own my spirit; that God gives me the power, and the love, and a sound mind to handle anything the world can hand out. He can do that for all of us for as long as the need is there. Perhaps it is time I visit the basement and retrieve my old friend. We of Tres Dias of Northern New Jersey also have this wonderful community to support and guide us on our journey. As the dog days of summer quickly approach, I am reminded about the giving folks who I have had the pleasure of serving with on the Secretariat this past year. I would like to give special thanks to Bruce Sinclair and Lee Haase who are taking a well-deserved break, and will not be joining us in September when we reconvene after the summer. Both of these men served our community well, and I will miss their dedication and their friendship. During the past year TDNNJ hosted four of the best weekends ever. Many men and women got to spend three days with Jesus, and we can all feel blessed to have been a part of those three days. In the near future I will be writing to you about ways our community will try to retain new Pescadores, so they can remain a part of our family for many years to come. Have an enjoyable and safe summer, and I hope to see you in the fall! God bless you, Bruce Bruce Kemmerer, President, Tres Dias of Northern NJ 2

The NPNA what is that? Well, read this article find out! It is no secret - it has certainly been a topic of frequent conversation lately - we are, by and large, failing to retain and absorb new pescadores into our community! We have discussed this challenge quite extensively at a couple of Secretariat meetings earlier this year and one thing became quickly evident there is no single answer to this challenge we need to take a step back and look at the big picture. So Secretariat set up a committee (the New Pescador Nurture and Advocacy, or NPNA committee) to explore the issue. The NPNA, consisting of Tom Bauer, Marcia Brands, Meyer Pincelli, Bruce Sinclair, Bruce Kemmerer and myself, sees its mandate to be the promotion of practices that will foster Pescador retention, involvement, and growth (with focus on new Pescadores in particular) and to communicate and promote adherence to these practices to the Community at large via all available means. We have had, to date, two very fruitful meetings. At these meetings we have explored relevant practices, roles and responsibilities in several specific areas: Secuelas, team selection, team formation, things we can do at the weekend itself, and team reunion meetings. And we have just scratched the surface! Suffice it to say we have found a plethora of things we can do (tweak, clarify, promote, ) to encourage and help our new pescadores integrate into the community. Space does not permit an exhaustive list of recommendations developed by the committee so far (there are over 20 of them.) Please speak to a member of the committee if YOU have any recommendations! It s not yet clear how (or even if) all of these recommendations will be implemented, but no matter what specific plans and/or recommendations may come to be, two things above all clearly call for community wide effort: 1) that we all reach out to new pescadores soon and often after their weekend, making them feel welcome, keeping that Tres Dias high alive and well in them, inviting them to Secuelas, Reunion groups, closings, and whatever else might be happening 2) that we consistently and whole-heartedly lift up our new pescadores, one another, and our NNJ Tres Dias program in prayer. The committee will continue its work in the Fall under the leadership of our secretariat VP s, Tom Bauer and Marcia Brands. Respectfully submitted, Rich Cantwell 5

Some quotes from people on the spring weekends Being there for the first time I enjoyed serving as a helper and serving God's pescadores and I think that we all have a duty to answer that calling when it comes in, so we can learn what it takes to be a good Christian and the amount of work that all of you are willing to do to make it happen. I felt like I was in Heaven during the weekend. When I think of the Weekend I grin from ear to ear. Tres Dias email prayer chain Would you like to know what s happening in Tres Dias of Northern NJ?
