The Lord s Prayer Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth, as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen. Post Communion Prayer Merciful God, we have been gathered at the table of your Son. Hear our prayer for our sisters and brothers in faith who suffer for truth, justice and freedom. Strengthen their witness and keep them, with us under the protection of your wings. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Adapted from Canadian Book of Alternative services Blessing May the God who dances in creation, who embraces us with human love, who shakes our lives like thurnder, bless us and drive us out with power to fill the world with justice. And the blessing Recessional Hymn The Lord be with you And also with you Opening Prayer Where people are hungry Help us to nourish Where people are cold Help us to share the living water Where people are lonely Help us to bring friendship Where people are in despair Help us to bring peace Where people are fearful Help us to bring courage Where people are frail Help us to bring strength Where people are doubting Help us to bring faith, hope and love. Penitential Prayer Lord Jesus, you came with compassion for all. When we have seen others in pain and turned away. Lord, have mercy Lord, have mercy Lord Jesus, you showed us healing in your loving embrace. When we have been in pain and refused the care of others. Christ, have mercy Christ, have mercy Lord Jesus, in you we are called to live in unity and peace. When we have heard of injustice and failed to speak out. Lord, have mercy Lord, have mercy. Absolution God of love, in Jesus you restore us to fullness of life in the Spirit. Your sins are forgiven. May your eyes be open to God s truth, and strengthened by God s power, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer for Anglicare SA God of love, We pray for the daily work of Anglicare SA: For individuals, families and communities in whose life we share; For our colleagues, networks and supporters. May we strive together to work for justice, And show respect to every person we meet. May we freely share in your desire for fullness of life for all. Amen. Isaiah 32:16-18 A Vision of Justice Then justice will dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness abide in the fruitful field. The effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust for ever. My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting-places. Psalm 146 Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul! I will praise the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God all my life long. Do not put your trust in princes, in mortals, in whom there is no help. When their breath departs, they return to the earth; on that very day their plans perish. Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD their God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who keeps faith forever; who executes justice for the oppressed; who gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets the prisoners free; the LORD opens the eyes of the blind. The LORD lifts up those who are bowed down; the LORD loves the righteous. The LORD watches over the strangers; he upholds the orphan and the widow, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. The LORD will reign forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the LORD! We thank you that on the cross Jesus took away our sin, \all that keeps us from each other and from you. He frees us form hate and fear, from all that destroys love and trust. Lord our God, We give you thanks and praise. We thank you that in the resurrection of Jesus, you inspire and enable your people to offer care, to build community, to restore hope and proclaim justice. Lord our God We give you thanks and praise And so with everyone who believes in you, with all the saints and angels, we rejoice and praise you, saying Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest! And now we thank you for these gifts of bread and wine; May we who receive them, as Jesus said, share his body and his blood. On the night he was betrayed, he took bread and gave you thanks. He broke the bread and gave it to his friends and said, Take and eat. This is my body given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. After supper he took the cup and gave you thanks. He shared the cup with them and said, This is my blood poured out so that sins may be forgiven. Do this in remembrance of me. Christ has died Christ is risen Christ will come again. You have gathered us together to feed on Christ and to remember all he has done for us. Fill us with your Spirit that we may follow Jesus in all we do and say, working for justice and bringing your peace to this world that you have made. Accept our prayers through Jesus Christ our Lord. Blessing and honour and glory and power are yours for ever and ever. Amen.

The Peace Blessed are those who make peace, they shall be called children of God. We meet in God s name and share God s peace. The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be always with you. And also with you. Offertory Hymn Offertory Prayer God of Love, we thank you for the gift of life and the energy we have to be and to do. Receive what we offer and nourish us with your Holy Spirit. Make us strong in your love, that we may nourish others in return. Blessed be God forever. The Prayer of Thanksgiving The Lord be with you And also with you. Lift up your hearts We lift them up to the Lord Let us give thanks to the Lord our God It is right to give our thanks and praise. Loving God, we thank you for this world of wonder and delight. You have given it to us to care for, so that all your creatures may enjoy its bounty. Lord our God, We give you thanks and praise. We thank you that when we turned away from you, you sent Jesus to live and work as one of us and bring us back to you. He showed us how to love you and set us free to love and serve one another. Lord our God We give you thanks and praise James 2:14-24 Equality in Christ What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but do not have works? Can faith save you? If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food, and one of you says to them, Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill, and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that? So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead. But someone will say, You have faith and I have works. Show me your faith without works, and I by my works will show you my faith. You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe and shudder. Do you want to be shown, you senseless person, that faith without works is barren? Was not our ancestor Abraham justified by works when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was brought to completion by the works. Thus the scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness, and he was called the friend of God. You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. Hear the Word of the Lord Thanks be to God Gradual Hymn The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke, reading from chapter 4, commencing a the 16th verse Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ When Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written: The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord s favour. And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. Then he began to say to them, Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing. For the gospel of the Lord Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ Sermon/Reflection

Affirmation of Faith We believe in God, in whom there is power and compassion. We believe in the Creator who gave birth to the universe, set the solar systems dancing in space, shaped molecules and mountains, and conceived beauty beyond our imagining. God s power topples tyrants, and brings down the walls of separation; God s love embodies the tenderness of a mother and a father, encouraging and caring for each of us. We believe in Jesus, born in obscurity in an occupied land; a human being, vulnerable to hunger, thirst, persecution and grief. He understood the power of love and confronted the powers of evil, spoke the truth with courage and clarity, forgave his enemies and changed lives. In his living, dying and rising again he showed love strong enough to save the world. We believe in the Holy Spirit who sustains, comforts and empowers us, opens the scriptures, opens our minds, and illuminates earth s darkness. Amen. (Iona Abbey Worship Book) The Prayers of the People Let us pray to the God who welcomes all, hears our prayers and in whose image we are made. We thank you, God, for trusting us to share in the mission of your Church. Bless us with wisdom to do our work well. We thank you for the pioneers and benefactors of Anglicare who began the ministries that are carried on to day. Make all the Church faithful in keeping their vision alive. We thank you for the skills and experience of the Anglicare board members and leadership team. Bless them with insight and energy as they work together. We thank you for the dedication and compassion of Anglicare staff who work closely with clients. Bless them with gentleness, resilience and love. We thank you for the volunteers who work with Anglicare, and for the time and care and skills they offer. Bless them with strength and refreshment in their labours. We thank you for everything that is received and learnt from the people Anglicare serves. Bless the Church with grace to see Christ s face in all your children. We thank you for the shared work of parishes and Anglicare, addressing the needs and hopes of local communities. Bless them with a common sense of your love for all people. We thank you for Anglicare partners in government and community who shape policy and direct resources. Bless them with understanding, generosity and justice. We thank you for others who support Anglicare, and for their desire to reach out in loving service. Bless them with empathy, courage and passion. We make our prayer through the one who came among us as the friend of the poor, the conscience of the rich, and saviour of sinners high and low alike, our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
