The Elements The DVD: Included on the DVD are the Lesson Intro Video segments featuring Ashton, the Power Verse Videos featuring Dr. Boing & Dr. Von Hinklesnot, the Rap It Up Videos featuring Twix, a five-minute Countdown video to begin each service, plus a bonus Bloopers segment. You can also find the mpg-1 files on the DVD-ROM portion of the DVD. (just put the DVD into your computer and click explore on the disc from My Computer ; go to the folder labeled Mpg-1 files ) The Music CD: Contained on this music disc are instrumental game songs, the BIG IDEA sound byte, Let s Play A Game intro song, and the world famous OFFERING TIME song to introduce the Offering. The Data CD: This CD contains the Printable Lesson Manual and graphics/artwork you can use to promote this amazing series. Also included are PowerPoint games, slides for use during illustrated sermons, and PowerPoint slides for each Big Idea and Power Verse. The Student Weekly Take-Home Activity Sheets are a great way to keep your kids thinking throughout the week about what they learned on Sunday. In addition, you will find a Family Devotion for each lesson. These are designed to either send home with the parents (to reinforce the lesson during the week), OR they can be used as ten-minute small group segments in your service (to reinforce the lesson right away). The BIG IDEA: This is the main thought you want to get across to the kids during the weekly lessons. The BIG IDEA is a simple statement that sums up the entire week s lesson. Sometimes it rhymes, sometimes it relies on rhythm, and other times it is just crazy fun! The goal is to have the kids learn the BIG IDEA by repetition. Included on the CD is the sound byte Hey! What s The Big Idea? (track #1). This is a sound byte that your sound engineer can play as many times during the service as desired. Each time the kids hear the sound byte, they should stand up on their feet and say the week s BIG IDEA. However you choose to use it, the BIG IDEA is the main thought you want your children to learn each week. Game Time: Each week a game has been provided. Most of them are themed with the lesson being taught that week. There are also high energy instrumental game songs included on the Music CD. Some of them are 60-second versions (to be used for games with a one-minute time limit), and some of them are extended versions. More music can be found on our Crazy Kids Game Music CDs at www.highvoltagekids.com. Character Skits: These skits feature several characters (you can choose to have them as either puppets or humans). The characters interact with another person (you or any member of your team). Names can be changed for each specific church and situation if you wish. Use the skits in whatever way works best for you. Illustrated Messages: Because kids tend to learn best if you combine speaking the truth with visual illustrations, we have written an illustrated sermon to be used each week. Materials are listed, and manuscripts are provided. Each illustrated sermon comes with a PowerPoint slide for each main point. The Elements Page 2
God can put our broken lives back together again. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us... 1 John 1:9 God Can Put My Broken Life Back Together Again! All the King s horses and all the King s men couldn t put Humpty Dumpty back together again. When sin comes in and destroys our lives, we can feel a lot like Humpty Dumpty. But, the good news is, we don t have to rely on the King s horses or the King s men we can turn to the King of Kings himself to put our broken lives back together again. In this lesson, we will learn how God can put our broken lives back together again when we turn to Him for help. If we confess our sins to Him, He will forgive us and put us back together again. Character SKIT Character: Chuck Foo (a wanna-be Karate Instructor with a Minnesota accent; in this scene he is wearing something that looks like a duct-tape diaper over his karate clothes) Leader: I am so excited to start our series called Broken today. It s... (all of a sudden Everybody Was Kung-Fu Fighting begins playing. Chuck Foo comes out karate chopping the air, screaming, and making noise like he s in a Bruce Lee movie. Music fades.) CHUCK: How you doin dere, my name is Chuck Foo! (high kicks the air) I am from Minnesota and for the past few years I have been an amateur stunt man and Kung Fu Master. My friends call me Chuck Foo, but my enemies call me PAIN!! (karate chops the air, misses and falls flat on his face) It s alright! It s ok, I planned that! That was all planned! Leader: Well, Chuck, what brings you here today? Chuck: I ve come out here to show you my new product! Leader: Your new product?? Chuck: That s right! I have been working hard on this for a long time. I think I finally have it right. Chuck-Foo s-super-fixer-upper-pull-ups! Leader: Are you talking about that big thing of Duct-Tape you re wearing? Chuck: That s right! Y see, everybody has problems. Like they re TOO LOUD, or they have WEIRD HAIR, or they TALK FUNNY, or they sneeze whenever they hear someone say the word pumpernickel! Leader: (confused) Pumpernickel?? Chuck: (suddenly sneezes) AAAAH-CHOO! Leader: God bless you. Chuck: Thank you. Anyways, people gots all sortsa problems and they re always wanting to fix themselves. Well, you know what kinda stuff fixes anything better than anything else? Leader: I m afraid to ask. Chuck: (grabs a big roll of Duct Tape) Duct Tape! This stuff can fix anything! Broken doors, windows, furniture, EVEN SUBMARINES! So, I thought to myself Chuck, you re the greatest Kung-Foo master of all time, but you ve got a lot of problems why don t you use the power of DUCT-TAPE TO FIX YOURSELF! So, that s why I created these! Chuck-Foo s-super-fixer- Upper-Pull-Ups! (CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE) Lesson one Page 7
Character SKIT (CONTINUED) Leader: Okay let me get this straight You ve decided to wear those because duct tape fixes anything, and you think that Duct Tape is going to fix all of your problems? Chuck: That s right! I won t be loud anymore, my hair won t be weird anymore, and I won t sneeze every time I hear someone say the word.. Leader: Pumpernickel? Chuck: AAAAA-CHOO!! Oh oh no! I sneezed! They don t work! My Super-Fixer-Upper-Pull-Ups are useless! I am unfixable!!!! (Chuck begins to cry) Leader: Hold on now, Chuck. Everybody has problems, and not all of them can be fixed by duct tape. When you feel broken, you have to rely on God and God alone. Chuck: But, how on Earth is God going to be able to fix me? Do you have any IDEA how broken I am?!?! Leader: Listen, God made you! He made the whole universe. If God has the power to create every thing in the Universe, including you, then don t you think He has more than enough power to put your broken life back together again? Chuck: Well, yes. But, what about duct tape? Leader: Forget about that. God is the only one that can fix your broken life. Not duct tape, not glue, not any other kind of crazy stuff people think will make them feel good. Chuck: Just God? Leader: That s right. Chuck: Wow! I feel great! I don t need anything or anybody to try and fix me, because God made me, He loves me, and He s the one true fix to all of my problems! Good bye, Super-Fixer- Upper-Pull-Ups! (Chuck tries to remove the giant duct tape diaper it doesn t budge.) Chuck: Uh oh.i m gonna need some scissors. I ll see you later kids! I m Chuck Foo! KICK IT!!! (CHUCK high kicks into the air and Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting plays as he kicks/punches/karate chops his way off stage.) Lesson one Page 8
Game Time Egg Head Relay Items Needed For Game: * Two hard boiled eggs * two spoons How To Play: Choose eight children to participate in this game. Divide them into two teams of four. In this relay, the children will take turns walking with the egg on the spoon (no touching the egg with their hands) all the way down to the other end of the room and back. When they get back to the starting line, they hand off the spoon (and egg) to the next team player. This continues until all four players have made it all the way down and back. IF the egg drops off the spoon, then the player must start back over at the starting line, place the egg back on the spoon, and try again. The first team to complete the course with all four players WINS! Lesson one Page 9
Illustrated Message No More Humpty Dumpty For Me Materials Needed: The Data CD; Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes book; a candle; several balloons; a permanent marker Preparation: Open the PowerPoint presentation on the Data CD titled Lesson One, begin with the slide titled No More Humpty Dumpty For Me ; blow up the balloons and tie them, then draw a big smiley face on each of them, have fun making the faces look crazy and different; write the word SIN on the side of the candle The Message: (title slide) (hold up the Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes book; begin to read Humpty Dumpty ) Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. All the King s horses and all the king s men couldn t put Humpty Dumpty back together again. I bet you never thought we would be learning a Bible Lesson from the Mother Goose book, huh? (allow kids to respond) Well, the story of Humpty Dumpty reminds me of many people in life. They find themselves at a point where their lives feel BROKEN and they feel just like Humpty Dumpty. They ve tried everything, but they can t figure out how to put their BROKEN lives back together again. It s a very sad situation. How do people s lives become BROKEN to begin with? Well, the truth is, ALL of our lives have been BROKEN at some point. How do I know? Because they Bible says 1) We Are ALL Broken (slide) Romans 3:23 tells us, For ALL have sinned That means you have sinned, I have sinned, the pastor has sinned, everyone in the world has sinned. Sin is the very thing that causes our lives to be BROKEN. Let me demonstrate. (pull out the candle with the word SIN on it; light it with a match) This candle is going to represent sin. (pull out one of the balloons with a face on it) This is going to represent a person. Now, this person is going along in life just as happy as can be, but then they are tempted to sin, and they give in. Can someone name a sin that we might be tempted to commit? (allow responses and choose one) That s right! And even though it is just one sin, guess what happens when we commit even that one sin? (place the happy face balloon directly into the flame for a few seconds; it pops; hold the BROKEN balloon in your hand) It only takes one sin, and our lives are BROKEN. (CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE) Lesson one Page 10
Illustrated Message (CONTINUED) It doesn t matter what sin it is, either. (ask for the kids to name another sin we might be tempted to commit; place the other balloons into the fire and watch them pop, too) It only takes one sin and our lives are BROKEN. We feel just like Humpty Dumpty. When our lives are BROKEN by sin, we feel useless, helpless, in need of a major repair. That s where Jesus comes in. You see, God created our lives. He knows how to put them back together again. 2) Broken Lives Need Jesus (slide) Romans 6:23 tells us, For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. That means that even though sin may cause our lives to be BROKEN, there is a way for our lives to be put back together again Jesus! Sadly, there are many kids who try to put their own lives back together again. They think that popularity will make them happy, and then they won t feel BROKEN. So, they try everything they can to become as popular as they can only to feel as BROKEN as before. Other kids think that money, fame, or even taking drugs will make them forget how BROKEN their lives feel. But, no matter what you do to try to fix your BROKEN life on your own, you will always feel like Humpty Dumpty. All the King s horses and all the King s men couldn t put him back together again. You can t put your own BROKEN life back together again. According to Romans 6:23, when our lives are BROKEN by sin, the only way to fix it is by receiving the free gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Maybe you are here today and you are asking, Well, that s great that I need Jesus to fix my BROKEN life. But, HOW do I get Him to do that? I m glad you asked. 3) Jesus Can Put Our Broken Lives Back Together Again (slide) Our Power Verse today teaches us exactly how to get our BROKEN lives back together again. It says, But, if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us It goes on to say that not only will Jesus forgive us, but He will cleanse us from every wrong. He will put our lives back together again and make us as if we were never BROKEN in the first place! All we have to do is admit our sins to Him and ask Him to forgive us. That is amazing! ALTAR RESPONSE (play soft music): Lead the children in a prayer to confess their sins to God. Remind them that God is the only one who can put their BROKEN lives back together again. When they sin, they should go to God for forgiveness. He will help them live the life that He has planned for them. Lesson one Page 11

No More Humpty Dumpty For Me! God Can Put My Broken Life Back Together Again! But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us... 1 John 1:9 This Week s Main Focus: God can put our broken lives back together again! Daddy, can you fix it? Fix it, pleeeease! Nicole had accidentally dropped her favorite doll, and the doll s arm had broken off! Nicole held the doll up to her dad, with tears in her eyes, begging her dad to fix it. I m not sure I can fix it, honey. It s pretty broken, he said. No one is too broken for our Heavenly Father to fix, boys and girls! All of us have had things happen to us, accidentally and on purpose that have hurt us, have broken our hearts and have broken our relationship with God. Sin breaks the perfect relationship that He wants all of us to have with Him. Adam and Eve were the first people to see how sin shatters a perfect relationship. They lived in the Garden of Eden, with every possible blessing from God. And yet, they chose to disobey and to invite sin into their lives. Their lives in the Garden were broken. In the nursery rhyme, Humpty Dumpty breaks after taking a fall and no one else is broken only Humpty. In the true story of Adam and Eve in the Bible, Adam and Eve s falling into sin didn t just affect them but affects all of us still today. Our lives are broken with sin. While Nicole s dad struggled to fix her broken doll, it is not too hard for our Heavenly Father to pick up the broken pieces of our sinned filled lives and put us back together for His glory! Our power verse today tells us that when we come to God the Father and tell Him we have sinned and ask Him for forgiveness, He forgives. Jesus, God s own Son, has paid the price for our broken lives and restores our relationship with Him! Humpty Dumpty had a great fall and all the king s horses and all the king s men couldn t put him back together again. The Bible tells us not to trust in horses, not to trust in chariots but to trust in the Lord our God! We have a great Heavenly FATHER and KING, Jesus, that reaches down with His nail scarred hand and puts our broken lives back together again! No more Humpty Dumpty for me! God can put our broken lives back together again! Dear Jesus, Thank you that no one is too broken, too full of sin that You cannot forgive. I come to you now, Father God, and ask for Your forgiveness and grace in my life. I ask you to take the pieces of my life and put them together to be a wonderful picture of Your love and mercy. I can count on You, God! AMEN! This Week s Activity: Nursery Rhymes aren t true stories. Here is the Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme. This week, write your own TRUE rhyme that tells someone that Jesus can put our broken lives together. I ll start it...can you finish it or make your own up? Jesus Christ is God, it s true. He forgives sin for me and you.??????????????????????????????????
The following page is a sample of the weekly Family Devotions provided in this series! They can be sent home for parents to use, or can be used a short small group segments during your service time.
God Can Put My Broken Life Back Together Again! But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us - 1 John 1:9 Before devotions, choose two things on a wall that are located close to each other, such as a window and a picture. Then have your kids sit side by side across from that wall. Tell them to look at the first item for 15 seconds. After 15 seconds, tell them that without moving their heads or closing their eyes, look at the second item for 15 seconds, making sure they don t look at the first one at all. During those 15 seconds remind them several times not to look at the first thing they looked at. Then talk about the following questions: How hard was it for you to look at the first object when I told you to? How hard was it for you NOT to look at the first object when I told you not to? Did knowing that you weren t supposed to look at the first object make it harder for you not to look? What would make it easier? Then have your kids turn around with their back facing the wall they had been looking at. Tell them for 15 seconds to look at anything they want to that s in front of them. After 15 seconds, ask them how hard it was not to look at the first object on the other wall. Explain to your kids that when we re tempted to sin, the best thing we can do is focus on the thing that s completely opposite of the sin: God. When we stay around the temptation and just try to ignore it, it doesn t go away. But when we focus on God, our attention turns away from the sin. By continually choosing to focus on God instead of the sin, we can overcome the temptations that we face in life. Then read I Corinthians 10:13 and ask your kids what the Bible means when it says God will provide a way of escape. Pray together, asking God to help you learn to redirect your attention when you re tempted to sin. Thank Him for always providing a way of escape when you re tempted.
