Repeated throughout the song are the words, Come awake, come awake. I admit I am not a morning person. There are times when I d rather keep my eyes shut tight and throw the covers up over my head. I m not quite ready to face the day; to open my eyes to the light or to the possibilities the day may hold. The first response to Jesus resurrection was not people running out shouting with joy He is risen! Jesus has risen! The women were perplexed and terrified. The disciples reacted with disbelief. As the followers of Jesus were faced with signs of Jesus resurrection, their first instinct was to pull the covers back over their heads and shut their eyes tightly. Jesus has risen! But are we ready to see all the possibilities He offers? Resurrection often starts small - it can go almost unnoticed. We become so focused on our darkness - the pain we have experienced, all we have been through and are going through - that we fail to see the signs of all the new life around us. We walk around still asleep. Too often we live our lives as if we are in a slumber. We are content with the status quo. We don t expect much out of life. Easter is about awakenings - about waking to the power of Christ s resurrection in our lives. Ephesians 5:14 says, Sleeper, awake! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. As we realize we have a Risen Savior, we are awakened to all that God is doing in our lives. Because we have a Risen Savior, we have a reason to live fully in God s love - to awaken. We can begin to overcome the tendency to throw the covers over our heads and instead begin to see and live in God s possibilities. My favorite line in the Easter song by Matt Maher is O church, come and stand in the light. Our God is not dead. He s alive! He s alive! Come now and stand in the light of our Living Savior. Blessings, Pastor Melissa A Place Called Home "In my Father s house there are many dwelling places." - John 14:2 The scriptures of the Easter Season speak time and again of the family of God, of loving one another as brothers and sisters, and being the children of God. Several times the word abide invites us to reside; to dwell in the presence of the Risen One. On Easter a messenger tells the disciples to meet the risen Jesus back at Galilee, the place they began together, and the place where they lived and worked together during his ministry. So, this Easter Season, we invite you to explore what it means to have A Place Called Home in our spiritual lives. Our youth will kick off this new worship series on April 12 when they lead us in worship for Youth Sunday.

IMPACT MS/AS Program Birthdays & Anniversaries 6 REDLAND U.M.C. IMPACT Individuals Making Positive Actions & Choices Today Imagine you are 11 years old and coming home from school. You are nervous now that the bus is near the bus stop. You have nearly one-eighth mile of driveway to walk (in all kinds of weather) to an empty house. A car rides by and slows down as you are walking up the drive way. You re thinking - do I have my key? How can this situation be changed? Redland U.M.C. IMPACT will provide a safe and nurturing alternative for middle school students while giving parents the piece of mind of knowing their youth has a safe place to go after school. Students will be provided a place to do homework and devotional study time with caring adults to mentor and support them. Youth may be g iven opportunities to volunteer in the daycare reading to the children, playing games or helping with crafts. The program will follow Frederick County Public Schools academic calendar, opening on the first day of school and closing on the last day of school. Program hours will 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Monday Friday, and will follow FCPS s scheduled closures and snow days. There will be one paid staff and several volunteers to assist with the program. Background checks will be performed on all staff through the VA State Police and VA Department of Social Services and will receive First Aid and CPR Training.
