B ib l e S tor y Paul Preaches The children will describe Paul and Silas as men who shared about Jesus from the Bible. Lesson Text cts 17:1-4 Materials For the teacher: map from the Preclass ctivity glue stick tape craft stick scissors crayons or markers Reproducible Pages: Page, 1 copy for the teacher Preparation 1. Cut out and color the figure from the copy of Reproducible Page. 2. Tape a craft stick onto the figure as a handle. Instructions Hold the figure of Paul and Silas near the map. Today we are going to learn about two men who loved Jesus very much and wanted everyone to know about him. One of the men was named Saul. Does anyone remember anything about Saul? (He wanted to hurt the Christians, Jesus appeared to him and blinded him, nanias healed him) fter nanias healed him, Saul became a Christian. nd he changed his name from Saul to Paul. Then do you know what he did? Yes, he told people about Jesus. Paul had a friend named Silas. Show the Paul and Silas figure. nd Paul and Silas left their homes and traveled from one city to another telling people about Jesus. Move the figures around the map. When Paul and Silas reached the city of, point out on the map, Paul found a building called a synagogue where the people met to worship God. But these people didn t know about Jesus. So Paul was eager to teach them. He went back to the synagogue the next week when all the people were gathered there and then the next week too! Do you think it was easy for Paul to teach these people about Jesus? Maybe it was hard. Maybe it was hard because the people didn t want to love Jesus. But the Bible says that Paul was patient and that he reasoned with the people and showed them that Jesus was God s Son. (cts 17:2-3) So Paul read to them from the Bible. Do you have a Bible at home? Paul explained that Jesus was the Son of God and had done many wonderful things for them. He explained how much God loved them and how much Jesus loves them. Do you know what happened? What happens when people start listening and obeying the Bible? Yes, the people who believed in God and in the Bible changed! How do you think they changed? When people start believing in God and obeying him they become happier, they are more loving and they share with others. They obey their parents and are kind to each other. nd then those believers, just like Paul and Silas, told everyone around them about Jesus. So many people listened that a great church began in that city! NOTE: Save the cardboard map and the Paul and Silas figures for the Unit 18 Lesson 4, Bible Story. Conclusion sk the children the following questions as a review: Do you think that Paul and Silas loved Jesus? (yes) Why do you think they loved Jesus? (They told other people about him.) What are some things they might have said about Jesus? (He loves them, Jesus is God s Son) What did Paul use to teach the people about Jesus? (The Bible) Do you think people need to know about Jesus? (yes) Why? Spring 2 1999 by Discipleship Publications International 18-3-3
