PALMS FOR ASH WEDNESDAY There is a basket in the Gathering Space for you to place your blessed Palms from last year to be used to make the ashes on Ash Wednesday. FISH FRY 2019 St. Leo annual Lenten Fish Fry will begin on March 8th this year from 4:30-6:30 pm. The Fish Fry is a combined effort of the Knights of Columbus, who cook the food, and the parishioners of St. Leo who serve, make desserts, clean up, etc. There will be a sign-up sheet in the gathering space for you to schedule a time to help during the six Fridays of Lent. We need parishioners to bring desserts. If your last name begins with the letters A-D, please bring dessert on March 8th; letters E-I on March 15th, letters J-M on March 22th, letters N-Q, on March 29th, letters R-T on April 5th, letters U-Z on April 12th. If you love to bake and want to bring a dessert every week, we can use them! The profits from the Fish Fry this year will go to the general fund to make up for the below budget regular collection. We need everyone to come support our Fish Fry - bring your family and friends! Cost will remain the same: $9.00 Adults, $5.00 Children under 12. Includes fried or baked fish, hush puppies, fries or baked potato, white beans, cole slaw, dessert, and drink. OH HOLY KNIGHTS THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 21ST The Knights of Columbus are hosting an informal event each month at which we'll view videos of varying topics related to our faith. This will be followed by a hearty discussion in a relaxed atmosphere. For lack of a better pun, we call it Oh Holy Knights, Not a Knight? Come anyway! This is open to ALL the Parish Family. Food will be provided. The Oh Holy Knights happens every third Thursday at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Squire Rd. Film rolls following a prayer at 7:00pm. We hope to see you there! SERVING OPPORTUNITY! Are you looking for a place to server here at St. Leo?! This might be your opportunity! We are offering a mandatory training for Lectors, EMHC and Hospitality from 9:15am-10:15am on March 24th, 31st and April 7th. Only one training needs to be attended. Prayerfully consider giving your time to one of these ministries. Please contact Megan at Megan@stleoky.org to let her know what day will work best for you! 2 W ELCOME TO ST. LEO CATHOLIC CHURCH

Actually, beatitudes occur throughout the prophets and Gospels. Today in Jeremiah (with an echo in the psalm) we hear, Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord (Jeremiah 17:7). Following his resurrection in John's Gospel, Christ proclaims, Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed (John 20:29). The evangelists placed these sayings throughout the Gospels as short reminders about the characteristics that one will find in a follower of Christ, characteristics that will help spread the Good News in this life and lead to eternal blessings in the next. In Latin, the saints are called the Beati, the Blessed, for they are the ones who lived the blessed life as described by Jesus throughout the Gospels. How blest are we, when we also strive to make our own days a living beatitude! Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co. Blessed are you who are poor, for the kingdom of God is yours. Blessed are you who are now hungry, for you will be satisfied. Luke 6:20-21a OUR MISSION St. Leo Parish, a culturally diverse Catholic community, empowered by the Holy Spirit, is committed to worshiping God and providing for the spiritual development of the parish and the larger community through liturgy, service, and evangelization. OUR VISION St. Leo Parish, fully alive in the Body of Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit, will Minister to all phases of life of our parish and community: Celebrate through our Sacraments Be recognized as a foundational part of the community Be stewards of our gifts from God Actively welcome all TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION In recent years, there has been remarkable progress in drawing persons with disabilities into full celebration. Now it is generally accepted that worship places need accommodations such as ramps or elevators, large-print materials for those who are sightimpaired, and perhaps even an assisted hearing system or signing in American Sign Language. American Sign Language is not merely English translated into movement, but a distinct language with its own grammar, syntax (word order), and vocabulary. For this reason, the American Catholic bishops have approved American Sign Language (ASL) as an official language of the liturgy. Celebrating liturgy in our own language (the vernacular) means that liturgy must be accessible to all languages and cultures. The fact that Mass is celebrated this weekend in some places in total silence, but with the full participation of deaf people praising God in the movements of their hands, and sometimes even with a priest who is deaf, is nothing less than the Church being faithful to the image of Jesus, who made the deaf hear and the mute speak. Remember too that deafness is an invisible disability, and that there may well be people in your parish who are quietly yearning for Mass to be signed for them in ASL.. James Field, Copyright (c) J.
