Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 1 March 3, 2019 LENT A SEASON OF RENEWAL ASH WEDNESDAY IS MARCH 6TH and one of our Catholic customs on Friday s during Lent is to pray the Stations of the Cross as a community. I would again like to offer to the various groups and ministries in our parish community the opportunity to lead an evening of Stations of the Cross this year. You can use whichever format you like or the standard one we ve used in years past. A little internet search will uncover many options as well. The Fridays that are available include: (beginning at 7pm) March 8, 15, 22, 29, April 5, 12,19* (*at 3pm) Let Lisa Smith in the office know which date and format your group would like: (206) 283-1456. LENTEN SOUP SUPPERS March 8, 15, 22, 29, April 5, 12 at 6:15pm in the Parish Center. Volunteers are needed to help at Soup Suppers. Please sign up here. Followed by Stations of the Cross at 7pm in the Church. Your donations help us to continue this custom. Please RSVP to (206) 283-1456. DO YOU KNOW JESUS? We want Jesus to say, I know you when it comes time to meet him. You can be a part of a prayer group and come to Know Him! His mother wants to lead us to Him to have a personal relationship with Him as we learn to pray the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet, for our Church and our Country. Call Lorene @ 206-281-8911. Is God calling you to this Spiritual work of mercy? Join us and find out. ADORATION DURING LENT Fridays, 3-6pm in the church. Hosted by the Respect Life/Spiritual Adoption Team. WHAT AM I DOING FOR LENT THIS YEAR? This free booklet will help you plan how to spend your 40 days so that it will be fruitful and meaningful for you. Booklets are available in the parish center and in the back of the church. Please help yourself and enjoy! PARISH LENTEN RETREAT MARCH 30TH. SEE PAGE 5. Ash Wednesday, March 6th, and Good Friday, April 19th, are days of fast and abstinence. Fridays of Lent are also days of abstinence. Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for Baptism or of renewal of Baptism at Easter. (Code of Canon Law, 1249-1252) Fasting is to be observed by all eighteen years of age and older, who have not yet celebrated their sixtieth birthday. On a fast day one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one's needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed. Abstinence is observed by all fourteen years of age and older. On days of abstinence no meat is allowed. Note that when health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. When in doubt concerning fast and abstinence, the parish priest should be consulted. CRS RICE BOWL Is Catholic Relief Services Lenten faith-in-action program for families and faith communities. It offers simple, yet powerful, ways for everyone to bring Lenten spirituality to life. Rice Bowl contributions support projects that assist our brothers and sisters in need, both overseas and here in the US. 75% of Rice Bowl contributions are sent to Catholic Relief Services and help fund development projects overseas that help increase and maintain communities access to food. 25% of the contributions fund local poverty and hunger alleviation programs in dioceses in the US. Visit www.seattlearchdiocese.org/ricebowl to learn how we use the 25% in this archdiocese.

Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 2 March 3, 2019 NEW STUDY SERIES FOR LENT We are excited to announce that our parish now has access to premium video content from Word on Fire featuring Bishop Robert Barron. Thanks to Flocknote, our parish's new email tool, we can now send you short Bishop Barron videos with engaging questions via email. We encourage you to participate in our parish discussions as together we draw deeper into the Faith. Each Wednesday this Lent, 1 section of an 8-part video: Word on Fire, Seven Deadly Sins, Seven Lively Virtues will be sent to those in the parish with an email address. Based on Dante s writings, the seven deadly sins correspond to the seven levels of Dante s Mt. Purgatory. Pride, envy, anger, sloth, gluttony, avarice, and lust are all presented as patterns of dysfunction within us that lead to unhappiness. However, Bishop Barron shows us how to counteract these seven sinful patterns through a conscious process of opposition, which are the seven lively virtues." The seven lively virtues offer antidotes to each sin and help set us on the right path to healing and happiness. In addition, you now have access to the entire Word on Fire digital video library. You can watch any of Bishop Barron's films or study programs whenever you want, on any device! If you would like to be added to our email contact list, please contact the parish office 206-283-1456.
