February 2010 The Red Door St. Andrew s Episcopal Church 733 State Route 41 Washington Court House, Ohio 43160 The Reverend Gayle Hansen Browne, Vicar EPISCOPAL 101 CLASSES BEGINNING FEBRUARY 21 & 24 EPISCOPAL 101 is a series of five classes designed to help you learn more about the Episcopal Church. Each class will include a presentation by the vicar and informal discussion. The course will address such questions as: What does it mean to be an Episcopalian? What do Episcopalians believe? How is the Episcopal Church organized? WHO IS IT FOR? If you are new to the Episcopal Church and would like to know more about it, this series is for you. If you would like to be confirmed or received into the Episcopal Church, this course is required preparation. If you are already Episcopalian and are preparing to become a Eucharistic Visitor, Eucharistic Minister, or Lector, this course is required. If you are already Episcopalian and aren t sure what the Anglican via media is, or what the daily office is (no it s not the room where the office assistant sits), or what the Council of Whitby was, then this course would probably be beneficial to you, too. WHEN DOES IT HAPPEN? Episcopal 101 will be our Lenten Study this year. We will offer sessions both on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. and again on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. You may choose to attend either on Sundays or on Wednesdays. WHAT WILL WE TALK ABOUT? Thank You!!! Technology Makes Homilies, etc. Available to View!!! Thanks to Joe Kowalski, homilies are now available on our web site. The link to the site may be found at: www.standrewswch.org (Please note that the 1 st Sunday of Advent has Parts 1 and 2.) The homilies may also be viewed on YouTube! Go to www.youtube.com and search for Gayle Hansen Browne. The entire Red Door may be read online. We are asking people to email the church office if they prefer to read the online version. Please send a memo to st.andy.officevol@gmail.com and we will take your name off the Red Door mailing list. This will save paper and postage. Bishop Breidenthal recently sent a memo regarding the devastation in Haiti. The Episcopal Diocese in Port-au-Prince has requested our prayers and any financial contributions we can make. Over the next several weeks we will be collecting funds from parishioners that will be used in two ways: immediate health and food relief or long-term rebuilding of the Episcopal Church and Diocesan buildings. Please consider donating to one of these funds. Make checks out to Episcopal Relief and Development and in the memo portion, indicate Initial Relief in Haiti or Long-term rebuilding in Haiti. I am now a happy camper, thanks to the great Christmas present given to me by my St. Andrew s family. It is hard to describe the feeling I get when I come home to a clean house. I feel calm, de-stressed and cheerful. You have made my life good in so many ways and now, because of your kind cleaning service coupons, my house is good, as well! Newcomers Corner Welcome Dianna and family! Dianna Metz-Jones and her husband Danny live on Moon Road in Greenfield. They have two children: Aaron, who is a water treatment tech, and Andrea, who is an LPN and mother of six-year-old Emily and two-year-old Callee. Dianna met her husband while volunteering for the Life Squad in Lynchburg. The team (having CDLs) drove across the country for a year before Dianna went to nursing school to be an RN. Following graduation, Dianna worked as a Hospice Case Manager for three years. During that time she suffered a back injury and has had a total of three surgeries. She is currently receiving therapy and she and her doctor hope she can return to work within the next six months. Rusty Watson is Dianna s uncle, so while he was working in Florida, Dianna began bring Phillip Weller to church. While recovering from her third surgery, Dianna realized something was missing in her life and feels that she has found that something with us at St. Andrew s. Dianna says she has not met an unfriendly face here and is feeling more comfortable with the service every time she comes. We welcome Dianna and her family.
