We are organized for growth, with flexible structures leading to effective witness and action. We equip women and girls around the world to be leaders in communities, agencies, workplaces, governments and churches. Times are changing. We ve witnessed this in our churches, our communities, our denomination, and our world. The United Methodist Women have never been known to just sit back though. We are a group of women seeking to know Christ, support women and children around the world, and be in mission with each other. It is with that in mind that our district leadership listened to your feedback last fall and are now ready to meet the issues identified. Sharon Corley - Secretary of Program Resources Continued on page 9

Page 2 P R E S I D E N T S REPORT Hello RISEM UMW, I know the last 2 months have been a very emotional and challenging time for our churches and our church family. With an uncertainty of what is to come, I wanted to take this opportunity and remind everyone the purpose and vision of the United Methodist Women. WE are a community of women; from every walk of life. PURPOSE: United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship, and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. Nowhere in the above statement does it single out or exclude any woman on the basis of race, religion, nationality or sexuality. WE are a community of women; from every walk of life. We are able to bring our ideas, our passion, our history, our experiences and our faith together, to better the lives of women, youth and children, both in our own communities and around the world. We have done this for the last 150 years and the RISEM District will continue to do this for the next 150 years and beyond. Although we are not sure as to what the future holds, we can continue to do what we do best. We will continue to turn faith, hope and love into action. We will welcome any woman, into our sisterhood that embraces; supports and practices our purpose and vision, even if they are not a Methodist. This is who we are called to be.. Here s to STRONG WOMEN. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them. Unknown With God s grace and blessing, Vicki Snow-Field RISEM UMW President

RISEM United Methodist Women Page 9 Book Nook continued from page 1 One of the key points identified as a challenge between units and the district or each other was lack of communication. Individual units aren t aware of what s happening in others, and aren t always aware of what s happening on the district level if they don t attend a conference. If we as women are to be supportive of each other as units, we need to know when meeting/events are happening, what is working/not working, share pictures and stories to build up our faith as a body. We have a new way to do this. We have developed a new Facebook page: RISEM United Methodist Women! Here you can post your units upcoming events, ideas, and pictures, and can even contact district leaders. You will also find links to other information such as UMW organizations and newsletters from the district and conference. Please encourage all women within your unit who are on Facebook to LIKE our page and they will automatically be notified when an event or unit shares something. We want to hear from you! If you want something posted and don t have access to Facebook, or are having difficulty with the page, please contact either Kathleen Grimley or myself and we will be sure to help with it. There have been some changes to UMW Mission Resources which will affect all units and my role. I will no longer be able to order books for district events. The conference site is changing and will no longer be providing books. You can still download, for free, reading program lists, mission study leader guides, and other materials. I will order what I can of free materials for units this April. If you are in need of anything please contact me by April 4th. 508-685-6752. If you haven t sent me your Reading List from 2018, it s not too late! I need it before the April district meeting though, so hurry! You can either send it by email to samiam38@comcast.net or to my address at 63 Green St. Fairhaven, MA. RISEM UNITED METHODIST WOMEN NOW HAVE A FACEBOOK PAGE Sharon Corley Program Resource Coordinator RISEM District Happy Reading! Sharon Corley Program Resources Bridgewater will have books on sale for $1. Feel free to bring your older reading materials to share.
