Seeds of Faith Faith United Methodist Church April/May 2019 The Vision of Faith United Methodist Church is to empower all people to seek the fullness and assurance of God s Love. The Mission of Faith United Methodist Church is to invite everyone into a loving community, explore the Good News of God s Love, and serve God and our neighbor throughout the world. Dear Friends and Members of Faith UMC: We are celebrating Lent! If you're like me and didn t grow up celebrating Lent you might wonder what that word even means. Lent comes from a Latin word that means spring. It is a time set aside by the church to consider our lives and how our lives are lining up with God s call on our lives. If you take time to think about it, this is a season that can be a real gift to us. It is important for us to take time and renew our thoughts, renew our goals, renew our priorities, and contemplate what Jesus is calling us to do. Often throughout history Christians have taken the Lenten season to fast or stay away from. Some will take away from their everyday lives like, food for a day or a meal, chocolate, Facebook or social media, or television. They give something up in order to clear some space in their head to think about Christ and His sacrifice. It is a chance to allow Christ to renew your thoughts. Because, let s be honest, we all need to change the way we think. We have developed bad patterns and habits. The season of Lent helps us reflect on who we have become and make changes if we need to. We as people have lost the skill of critical thinking. We often can see the faults in the way others think but when it comes to our own line of thought, we have trouble seeing fault in ourselves. Lent is a time to critically think about your life. Are you who you want to be? Are you the person Jesus wants us to be? Lent is an opportunity to ask God for His perspective of your life. We all need to quote Psalm 139:23 and 24. 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. This Lent season take time to ask God to help rid us of our Stinkin Thinkin and lead us along the path of everlasting life. How will you make room for Christ to do His work in you this season? Maybe you will schedule some daily time with Him. Maybe you will give up something in order to make room for Him. One common complaint is people simply do not have enough time to spend with God. They are too busy. I do believe we are busy people but I don t believe this holds up as an acceptable excuse to not be with the Giver of life. If you google how much time the average person spends on social networks you will find they spend an average of 1 hour and 40 minutes scrolling through their feeds. Maybe you don t use the internet and you still are busy. I can promise you there is nothing more valuable than finding time to be renewed by God. How will you make that space this Lent? EASTER LILY GARDEN: If you would like to honor or memorialize a loved one as part of our traditional Easter Lily Garden, please fill in a form that is available in the back of the sanctuary or contact Penny Franz at 214-8306. The deadline for turning in the forms is April 14th. The names will be listed in the Easter Sunday bulletin as well as in the next newsletter. We are continuing to grow Faith s Water Project fund and more information will be available on that project soon. If you would like to make a donation to the fund as part of your honorarium, please make checks payable to Faith United Methodist Church. 30 Pieces of Silver: Remember to aside your 30 pieces of silver to offer during Lent. Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. We challenge you to symbolically turn those 30 pieces of silver into something that benefits God s Kingdom. Our offerings will support Faith s Water Project. LUNCH BUNCH Join us for lunch on Thursday, April 11th at 11:30 am. Everyone is invited for a good meal and fellowship. Bring a friend for the food and conversation. Join us at 9:30 am in the sanctuary for singing then classes for children and adults at 9:45 am. Everyone is welcome! The ladies are busy planning for the upcoming Easter morning breakfast at 9 am. Join us for a delicious breakfast and good fellowship! Congrats to Russ and Tawn Howe in the birth of a new granddaughter, Ora Shae to the proud parents of Luke and Jesse (Howe)Vandenburg! Ora Shae was born March 9th at 1:23 am, 21 long, 7 lbs 4 oz. BABIES ARE BLESSINGS!!!! Designated Giving Day of Giving/ UNDIE SUNDAY Cheyenne s 14th Annual Day of Giving this year is Saturday, May 10th. Please join us in supporting this as our Designated Giving project for April and May. While this is an annual event, the donations given help agencies throughout Cheyenne all year long. Our focus this year will be UNDIE SUNDAY on Sunday, April 28th. The impetus behind Undie Sunday is the very harsh reality that for people who have difficulty affording food, hygiene items are a real stretch. Therefore, underwear is often a luxury that is simply beyond reach. In honor of the beginning of Spring, let s all spring for a package of new underwear to bring to church. Bring a donation to help anyone you choose - baby to senior citizen, either gender, any size. If you would like to make donations of other items, there will be a handout available at the church, or visit cheyennedayofgiving.org Your support is very much appreciated!!!!
Our sympathies in the death of Wanda Romero on January 26, 2019 in Texas. She was 100 years old and a long time member of Faith Church. We have observed that people are taking items from the blessing box and others are adding items to replenish the shelves of the blessing box. As the box says, Take what you need, leave what you can. A heartfelt thanks to everyone who has been a part of this ministry over the past several years and to LuAnn Wall for getting it started. The UMW Outreach has made the decision to suspend this Ministry for the time being due to a lack of interest.
YOU TOOK MY PARKING SPACE AT CHURCH This should wake us up. One day, a man went to visit a church. He got there early, parked his car and got out. Another car pulled up near the driver, got out and said, I always park there! You took my place! The visitor went inside the Sunday School, found an empty seat and sat down. A young lady from the church approached him and stated, That s my seat! You took my place! The visitor was somewhat distressed by this rude welcome, but said nothing. After Sunday School, the visitor went into the sanctuary and sat down. Another member walked up to him and said, That s where I always sit! You took my place! The visitor was even more troubled by this treatment, but still he said nothing. Later, as the congregation was praying for Christ to dwell among them, the visitor stood up, and his appearance began to change. Horrible scars became visible on his hands and on his sandaled feet. Someone from the congregation noticed him and called out, What happened to you? The visitor replied, as his hat became a crown of thorns, and a tear fell from his eye, I took your place. When you read this, say a prayer that s all. This Easter Season, let s remember, Who took our place. Christ the Lord is risen And, as all the world rejoices, Singing of His glory With such joyful hearts and voices, May you find that Easter brings you Peace and Faith and Hope anew, And may these blessings fill your heart With joy the whole year through.
