THE COMMANDER'S DESK Greetings again, as your Commander for another great year at Alafia Post 148, I am looking forward to serving our members and all other Veterans of our great country. We have a number of new and returning Officers ready and willing to serve you this year. Our number one priority is to serve Veterans in any possible way we can. Congratulations to our new Officers of the Legion, Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion and our Legion Riders. We will all support the American Legion as a family together and make our Post one of the best Posts in the state. Membership is extremely important to all of us. Without all of you as members of this important organization, the membership could not support our Legion, SAL and Auxiliary programs. Just a few of these programs are our Boys and Girls State, ROTC programs and most important one is our Veterans Assistance for Veterans and their families in need. I would like to remind everyone that it is time to renew for 2015. New membership cards for Legion and SAL are available in our Post office seven days a week. As your Commander, I am normally in the Post home six days a week. If I am not here, just ask at our lounge and you will be taken care of. We are currently standing at 30% paid members in the first two weeks. For those who pay by mail, your new card will be sent out immediately. As we do every year, we look to make 100% goal by December 31, 2014. Please help us to obtain this goal. It would be greatly appreciated. Over the past five years, we have completed a number of upgrades to our facility to improve our service to our members when they visit our Post home. We are now upgrading our kitchen in order to serve you better; we hope to have this project completed no later than the first of October, if not sooner. Some of this work is done by our own members, I would like to thank each and every one of them. Any member can step up and help. Our lounge is open seven days a week and we have outstanding employees. Please come by and visit, have a cold beer or cocktail or maybe just a soda. Meet other members you have a common bond with. We are all Veterans who have served our Country at one time or another. We all understand each other and have a common goal, which is to continue to support each other. With that said, I will close with this WE ARE FAMILY For God and Country Roger Dunn 2014-2015 Post Commander HONOR GUARD VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Alafia Post 148 is looking to start a Post Honor Guard. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Walt Raysick at wraysick@verizon.net or Roger Dunn at legioneagle@verizon.net. This Honor Guard is needed for Memorial services, Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and other Veterans ceremonies. We re looking forward to hearing from you. AMERICAN LEGION RIDERS DIRECTOR Well Hello Riders: Here we are two months down the road of another hot summer and it has been one of those summers, we have had quite a bit of sickness in our ranks, with several riders and family members in and out of the hospital. As you all know TC was in with a pretty bad problem however he is on the road to recovery. Hans had heart surgery and has been in and out of the hospital, he really need a heart transplant to make him all better as for now he is holding his own.we have Gary Pugh who has not been doing very well, MJ and I have been helping Susie out while she was out of town. Last but not least we have Susie Martinez daughter who has a very rare disease and is still in the T.G.Hospital. I would like to ask everyone to keep them in your prayers. Now for some lighter stuff as you know the kitchen is under construction however we are going on with our dinners. These are our money makers so we can help Veterans and their families please invite your friends and family members.we really need the help as our funds are low so get out there and tell everyone to join us for our dinner on JULY 26 from 5 till 7. We really had a couple of great weekend rides; one was a fun ride to St.Pete Beach area. Wow great time. The next one was a ride to Sleepy Hollow we went up to post 155 in crystal river then we went to a hole in the wall bar that had some of the best pizza I've had in a long time thanks TC...we had an average of 14 bikes + on both rides great time and I think everyone enjoyed them. Once again Hello to all our new Riders, I look forward to riding we you.. For GOD and COUNTRY From the desk of the Director: BILLYBOB Bill Turner. AUXILIARY PRESIDENT Hello Ladies We have started off the New Year with a lot of new ideas. We will still be having our Bingo every Wednesday at 6:30 at the Post even with the renovation going on for the Posts new kitchen area. If you would like to go with us please give me a call and I will give you all the information. Also we start off with a family event for Labor Day and will serve Hot Dogs and Hamburgers. Our remembrance for all those who gave so much for September 11 th will begin at 8 am with waving the flags in remembrance with a prayer of silence at the time of hitting the Twin Towers. Then at we will be having a lunch for our 1st Responders to thank them. On September 27 we will be helping The Sons of American Legion with the Food Handler's Certification Course.
