Hope and Forgivness There were some interesting conceptions of sin prevalent in the time of the Hebrew scriptures. There was the belief that God punished sin immediately. Those who suffered disease or misfortune were, therefore, sinners getting their due from the Almighty. Today s first reading hints at another kind of God. When David admits his sin, Nathan declares, The Lord on his part has forgiven your sin (2 Samuel 12:13b). Here was not a vengeful God but a merciful God. What good news that must have been to David and those who, like him, could be honest enough to admit their sinfulness! Jesus is the good news of God s mercy and forgiveness incarnate. Without Jesus, perhaps the good news would have been too good to believe, too difficult to imagine. But there he is in today s Gospel, the God-man, forgiving a sinner and declaring that she is forgiven because of her great love. There is hope, then, for the rest of us sinners, if only we love enough! Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. Summertime God doesn t take a vacation from us. Please don t take a vacation from God this summer! Fostering faith throughout the months when no formal classes are scheduled may look different than it does during the school year, but can be easy and fun! Here are a few ideas: +Celebrate Mass in a city or town away from where you live. Big church or small, Jesus will be there! www.masstimes.org +Hike Holy Hill (Hubertus, WI) +Visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help (Champion, WI near Green Bay) +Let your children use push pins to mark on a map all the places they ve received Holy Communion. +Pray on a picnic blanket under a tree and share some snacks there with your family. +Bless your bikes! And your bike-riders! +Be of service in the summer! Donate toys/clothes/food. Garden/Weed/Mow lawns for neighbors. +Pitch in during the liturgy. Sing! Lector! Become a Eucharistic Minister, an Usher, or an Acolyte! +Walk the Prayer Labyrinth at Sienna Center in Racine with your Rosary. +Use your Bible to make some word searches or crossword puzzles for your family members to try. +Like St. Paul, pray on the beach with your family. See Acts 21:5 and there on the beach we knelt to pray. These words are in the Bible in the book of Acts of the New Testament and in the Word Search below. Please find them and then grab a Bible to read or make your own puzzles BEACHCOMMUNITYBROTHERSHOLYSPIRITLOVEJOYPEACEPATIENCEKINDNESSGOODNESSSELFCONTROLF ELOOKNOWSPEAKHEAVENHOMECHURCHMARYPETERPAULCOURAGEANGELTHELORDSTOODBYHIMAND ANIMALSREPTILESBIRDSSKYAFTERNOONCHILDRENYOUDONOTBEAFRAIDGODSHIGHPRIESTPEOPLEBQZX USKDFODUROEUSDKRUPODJFSOUTHLSLAPOUTHFJTHOEISUHGLOUEITHHGARUEIOWPOWIEURYTZXCVB TRAVELEDRANILOVEYOUILOVESUMMERILOVEMYFAMILYILOVEJESUSWITHALLMYHEARTANDYOUTOOSM INFANTSREADINGWATERGODLOVESYOUSOMUCHAREYOULISTENINGTOHIMHEISTALKINGTOYOURHEART FAMILYDAYSCHOOSEPRAYERHOPEMIDNIGHTJESUSLIFEVISITSLEEPABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZAB UAWARERESCUEMOUTHHANDSSITSTANDWRITTENONYOURHEARTGAVEINSTRUCTIONSSTRETCHEDWEN LSAINTANNEISAGREATPLACETOBESAINTANNEHASAGREATPARISHFAMILYICANCALLMYOWNDOYOULOVE

Mercy Focus for June 2016: Forgive Offenses Willingly and Bear Wrongs Patiently Pope Francis has declared a Jubilee Year of Mercy to begin on December 8, 2015 and continue through November 20, 2016. Catholics throughout the archdiocese are invited to practice the Works of Mercy throughout this Jubilee Year. For June we focus on two Spiritual Works of Mercy: Forgive Offenses Willingly and Bear Wrongs Patiently. Take these Mercy Actions throughout the month: Reflect on who has hurt you, ask God to bring you healing, and pray for the wellbeing of those who have harmed you. To forgive is to set a prisoner free and to discover that the prisoner is me. Anonymous Hello God...Are You There?
