Saint of the Week www.olpmarshfield.com St. Cyril of Jerusalem Cyril was born in Jerusalem in 315. As a young priest he demonstrated such great doctrinal learning that he was entrusted with preparing candidates for baptism. To this end he wrote his Catecheses, which earned him immediate renown. When still only thirty-five he was made bishop of Jerusalem. Thanks to his doctrinal rigor he was soon hated by the Arians, who several times opposed him and exiled him. Reestablished by the emperor Theodosius, he exercised the ministry until his death, around 386. St. Cyril is depicted in episcopal vestments. The name Cyril is of Persian origin and means young lord. ** Taken from Saints A Year in Faith and Art by Rosa Giorgi Please pray for the Church in our Diocese Heavenly Father, Bless your Church with an abundance of holy and zealous priests, deacons, brothers, and sisters. Give those you have called to the married state and those you have chosen to live as single persons in the world, the special graces that their lives require. Form us all in the likeness of your Son, so that in Him, with Him, and through Him, we may love you more deeply and serve you more faithfully, always and everywhere. With Mary we ask this through Christ our Lord. This week we pray especially for: David Reither of St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Chippewa Falls, WI College I Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary Prayer Intention of the Week: That all who teach the faith may proclaim that the reign of God is a kingdom in which human life, at every stage, is welcomed March 12, 2017 and revered as a supreme gift Second Sunday of Lent of God

2 Welcome to Our Lady of Peace Parish Marshfield Here is an invitation to those wanting to live more deeply the Divine Mercy spirituality entrusted by Jesus to Saint Faustina. I know that a growing number of our parishioners are devoted to the Divine Mercy that Jesus gives generously, limited only by the amount of trust we have in him. Sister Mary Veronica Fitch recently met with the priests of the Marshfield deanery. Living currently at Saint Anthony s Retreat Center in Marathon, she is a professed sister of the Poor Clare contemplative religious order. She described to us priests how she always felt the calling to establish a three-part Divine Mercy Community, leading her to get permission from her Abbess and then from Rome to leave the cloistered religious life for a period of three years to actively pursue starting this community. Bishop William Callahan has welcomed her into the Diocese of La Crosse and gives his blessing to Sister Mary Veronica s endeavor. Taking the words from Saint Faustina s diary, the three parts that would make up the community are, first, a cloistered contemplative religious community of professed sisters; second, a group made up of mix of vowed active religious and a lay association similar to a secular third order; and third, people drawn from any walk of life and have the desire to commit to prayer and deeds of mercy. On Thursday, March 30 th, OLP will have the Lenten Communal Penance service at 5:30. Please plan to come and make a good confession as part of the conversion and renewal that Lent is to bring. Following the penance service, Sister Mary Veronica will be in Dillenburg Hall to meet with anyone wanting to live the Divine Mercy message more fully. The meeting will include teaching on Divine Mercy, prayer and the spiritual life, along with Q and A and fellowship. For more information, you can email Sister Mary Veronica at FSofDivineMercy@gmail.com. Leave your phone number and she will call you. God bless you, Fr. Berns From Our Pastor TAKING HOLY COMMUNION HOME Many parishioners have the privilege of taking Holy Communion home to loved ones who are unable to come to Mass. Please remember two things, anyone wanting to do this needs to be properly trained, and the pyx should never, ever be put in your pocket. Instead it should be carried in a pouch around your neck. Thanks to the kindness of one of our parishioners, we have a good supply of these pouches in the sacristy. Please come to the Sacristy and take one. This is the reverent and proper way to carry our Lord to our parishioners who desire Jesus so devoutly. That Man is You Week 19 Enter into Great Silence Our Lenten journey continues Tuesday morning with one of the most difficult things to do in our modern world - finding silent time to be with the Lord. Sacraments Baptism - Parents requesting to have a child baptized are invited to call Father Berns directly at 715-384-9414. He will assist with any baptism preparation and scheduling a date. Reconciliation - Celebrated on Saturdays from 4:30-5:15pm and upon request. Communal Penance Services are held during Advent and Lent. First Eucharist and Confirmation - Ongoing catechesis is essential in the faith formation of the youth of Our Lady Peace Parish (OLP). Therefore, any child must be enrolled continually from the First Grade, in either Columbus Catholic Schools or OLP s Religious Education Programs, to receive either the Sacraments of First Eucharist or Confirmation. RCIA Christian Initiation of Adults - Anyone interested in joining the Catholic Church should contact Sister Virdean Meyer at 715-384-3044. Classes begin each Fall. Marriage - Knowing how important it is to marry in the Church, we are happy to see weddings take place in our parish. Father Berns looks forward to meeting with engaged couples to assist them in marriage preparation. As this preparation takes time, couples are asked to contact Fr. Berns 8-12 months before the wedding. Anointing of the Sick - If any parishioner is ill at home or going into the hospital and would like to receive the Anointing of the Sick, please contact Father Berns at 715-384-9414. A Mass of Healing with anointing is celebrated during the year. New Parishioners - To join our community, please register at the Parish Office or call 715-384-9414 Ext. 2. Gift Presentation: Would you consider carrying up the offertory gifts at Mass with your family, your spouse, or even by yourself? All you need to do is let the ushers know before Mass that you are willing to do it. It would be wonderful to see new faces presenting before the Lord our earthly gifts that become the Eucharist.

5 Welcome to Our Lady of Peace Parish Marshfield LENT 2017 Daily Weekday Masses Wednesday-Friday 7:00am Tuesday and Wednesdays 5:30 pm 2017 LENTEN DEVOTIONS CONFESSIONS- FRIDAYS FROM 12:00-12:45 PM and 5:30-6:00pm STATIONS OF THE CROSS- FRIDAYS @ 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM (Reflection by Fr. Berns following 6:00 pm Stations) **On Friday March 17, 2017 the reflection will be presented by Roberto Partarrieu, the Director of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of La Crosse. His topic is Human Trafficking.** Bread and Broth Suppers: Lent began on Ash Wednesday March 1, 2017, and we will again feature the Bread and Broth suppers after the 5:30 pm Masses each Wednesday during Lent. Lenten Regulations: Catholics who have celebrated their 14th birthday are to abstain, except those with medical conditions, from meat on Ash Wednesday, all Fridays during Lent and Good Friday. In addition to abstaining from meat, Catholics who have celebrated their 18th birthday, until they celebrate their 59th birthday, are to fast, except those with medical conditions, on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Those bound by this regulation may eat only one full meal a day. Two smaller meals are permitted, if necessary, to maintain strength according to one s needs, but eating solid foods between is not permitted. Life in a Catholic School A Different Feel As we begin the season of Lent, Columbus faculty and staff are once again reminded of how fortunate they are to be teaching in a Catholic school. Each day in the classrooms, in the halls between classes or eating lunch with the students, they see how we are shaping our students character and fostering their spiritual and moral development at a critical time in their lives. Faith permeates all aspects of school life, from daily prayer, worship, and retreats to the respect our students give to others both in and outside of our schools and the responsibility they display in their decision making. In our society our faith often takes a back seat to less important things; if this is a concern for your family contact Mary Hartl today at 715-387-2444 to schedule a time to visit our schools. Solo and Ensemble Did you know when you listen to music, multiple areas of your brain become engaged and active? But when you actually play an instrument, that activity becomes more like a full-body brain workout. Recent scientific experiments done using MRI and PET scans on the brain prove that playing an instrument coordinates all seven areas of the brain to make them work together. The whole brain is made stronger with music. At Columbus Middle and High School 72% of our students are in band or choir. Students at CCS not only perform well academically they also excel in music. At our recent solo ensemble competition Columbus students earned a (*First) in 20 events and will be advancing to state at UW-Stevens Point in May. Columbus Catholic Schools a system you can believe in. Lenten Communal Penance Opportunities are scheduled for: Our Lady of Peace- March 30 th at 5:30pm St. John s- April 6 th at 5:30pm Lenten Resources- Beyond Belief: Following Christ Today CDs, Thy Will Be Done Weekly Prayers for Lent, God s Abiding Love Daily Lenten Meditations and Prayers are available at the doors. These are free. In addition, check out our kiosks at the doors for books, booklets and CDs for your Lenten selection. There is a nominal fee for the items in the kiosks. Volunteers Needed: As an alternative to giving up something for Lent, how about adding something for Lent? Your time. We need volunteers in almost every ministry at OLP. If you are interested in enhancing your Lent experience by giving back to the church, please contact the Parish Office. If you are not sure what you can do, we can help you for the right niche. Stop by the Welcome Desk on the weekend, come to the Parish Office during the week or call/email with your interest. CRS Rice Bowls: Though Lent is in full swing, it s not too late to pick up your Rice Bowls at the Church entrances this weekend. You can follow along through the days of Lent with the enclosed calendar. An announcement will be in the bulletin about when to return the boxes to Church at the end of the Lenten season. Bread & Broth Wednesdays in Lent One of our beautiful traditions at Our Lady of Peace is that during Lent we gather after the 5:30 Mass each Wednesday to share a simple meal of homemade soups, bread, cheese, and beverages. To be able to do this we need volunteers: to make soups and breads, to set up, serve, or clean up Sign-up sheets for each week are available at the hospitality desk in the church entrance. We are in need of volunteers for the last three weeks of Lent.
