( ) Busyness Can Keep Us From Doing Good! 5

1. He only had 3 ½ years to be here; He was determined to do what He came here to do! 2. Eph. 5:16 redeeming the time, 3. And He did! Jn. 19:30 It is finished! B. ( ) Busyness Can Keep Us From Gaining Spiritual Blessings! 1. Lk. 10:38-42 Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus feet and heard His word. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me. 41 And Jesus answered and said to her, Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. 42 But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her. 2. Mary and Martha were thrilled to have Jesus in their home. 3. Martha was focused upon serving Him; Mary was intent upon learning from Him. 4. We need to be willing to choose the good part! As Jesus said to Martha, Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her. Lk. 10:42 C. ( ) Busyness Can Choke Spiritual Life And Maturity! 1. In the Parable of the Soils, Jesus talked about the thorny soil. Lk. 8:11-15 2. The thorny soil describes good soil that receives the Word and It grows! 3. However, the good plants are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity. Lk. 8:14 D. (Slide #10) Put Your Focus Upon The SUPERIOR, NOT Upon The Inferior! 1. Often we put our most intense focus upon things that are the inferior -- that which decays, can be stolen, becomes worthless, and passes away! 2. I Jn. 2:17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. 6

3. The will of God is SO MUCH MORE VALUABLE than things; things are inferior; the will of God is superior -- it endures forever! It prepares us for Heaven! E. ( ) Be Willing To Walk Away From Things Of Lesser Import To Put You Focus You That Which Is Of Eternal Importance! 1. Paul had it all as a young, up-and-coming Jew! 2. Yet, when he was converted to Christ, all of his priorities changed! 3. Phil. 3:13,14 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. F. ( ) Be Alert To Needs Right Under Your Nose; Don t Let Busyness Keep You From Helping Others! 1. The Good Samaritan. Lk. 10:25-37 a. A lawyer asked Jesus Who is my neighbor? b. Jesus told the Parable of the Good Samaritan. c. A Jewish man traveling from Jerusalem down to Jericho was attacked, beaten, robbed, and left for dead. d. A priest was going down that road, saw the beaten man, and passed by. e. A Levite also saw this beaten man and passed by. f. A Samaritan saw this pitiful man, had compassion, treated his wounds, put him on his donkey and took him to an inn, left money to pay for his continued care, and promised to come by and pay any other charges. 2. How many times do we ignore one who needs help or encouragement because we are too busy? 3. How often do we pass an opportunity to help because we are in too big of a hurry to get to an appointment? 4. How often do we pass an opportunity to help because we are in too big of a hurry to get home? G. (Slide #11) Do Not Let Busyness Keep You From Noticing And Influencing Children -- Do Not Miss An Opportunity To Be A Blessing To And An Encouragement To Children! 1. Mt. 19:13-15 Then little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 But Jesus said, Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such 7

is the kingdom of heaven. 15 And He laid His hands on them and departed from there. 2. You never know what your attention may mean to a child! 3. Your time may encourage a child to want to serve God, to be a Bible Class teacher, a deacon, an elder, or a preacher. H. ( ) Slow Down And See God s Creative Genius Around Us! 1. Ps. 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! 2. Learn all you can from the creation; stand in awe of God! I. ( ) Make Time To Absorb And Apply God s Word To Your Life! 1. Read It -- THAT S NOT ENOUGH! 2. Absorb It! 3. Apply It To Your Life! J. ( ) Make Time To Pray! 1. Stay close to the Lord! 2. Talk with Him about your needs, concerns, and fears. 3. Pray without ceasing. I Thess. 5:17 K. (Slide #12) Do Not Let Minutiae Keep You From Seeing The Big Picture And What Is REALLY Important! 1. We can be SO busy with small, unimportant things that we ignore the big things! 2. Ask yourself, What is of greatest importance? L. ( ) Trust The Lord As You Put Your Focus Upon Eternal Things! 1. Mt. 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 2. Believe with all your heart that God Will Take Care Of You! 8

M. ( ) Use Your Life For Good While You Are Here And While You Are Able; You Will Not Be Here Very Long! 1. Imitate Jesus! 2. It Is No Wonder That He Was So Busy -- That Was His Mission! a. He understood that mission: b. Jn. 4:34 Jesus said to them, My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work. c. Jn. 9:4 I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. 3. He had much to do during the short time he was here on Earth! WE DO TOO! (Slide #13) Conclusion: A. Jesus Teaches Us About Being Busy And Accomplishing Our Utmost Task! 1. Jn. 17:4 I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. 2. Jn. 19:30 It is finished! B. We Can Be SO Busy That We Accomplish Little! 1. Someone said, Beware of the barrenness of a busy life. 2. Busyness is only a virtue when we are accomplishing something worthwhile. 3. Jesus showed us how to live a busy life and still be productive! C. Challenge: Examine Your Life; Are You Living It As Jesus Would Have You To Live It? 9
