Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Hainesport, New Jersey Page 3-565 Message from the Padre O n this Eighth Sunday of Ordinary Time, Jesus tells us, Not to worry about tomorrow... as tomorrow will take care of itself. This command may seem unrealistic for many of us...we can not help but worry about our children, our finances, our safety and we also worry about our health. Whether we like it or not, worrying is as real as any emotion we have to deal with everyday and it will always be a part of our life. But why did Christ say, not to worry about our lives and that tomorrow will take care of itself? My dear friends, what is translated as not to worry, is very much a call to action by Christ and that call is to have faith in the Kingdom of God and trust in his righteousness. As Jesus said, Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be given unto you. In other words, we are called to seek first the Kingdom of God before anything else and to follow God s righteousness and goodness in our lives. Jesus also said that worry can be defeated when we acquire the art of living one day at a time and by not worrying about tomorrow. If each day is lived as it comes, if each task is done as it appears, then the sum of the entire day is bound to be good. Yes, many of our problems can be solved one day at a time and when worries seem to be overtaking us trust in God and let God take them over. Instead of nursing wounds of self-pity pray for strength and the grace of healing. Instead of worrying about the burdens in life ask God to lift up the yoke from your shoulders. Instead of harboring anger and how to bring someone else down pray how to forgive them and find ways to build them up and lastly instead of worrying about the future prepare for your future by seeking first the Kingdom of God and trusting in his righteousness. Remember, Jesus can say to us, "Do not worry about your life" because Jesus trusted in God with his entire being. Today we too are called to do the same. Page 4-565 Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Eighth Sunday In Ordinary Time Isaiah 49: 14-15, 1 Corinthians 4: 1-5 Matthew 6: 24-34 The reassuring message of our sacred scriptures today is that God will not forget us. We can trust in our loving God who cares for us more than for any other creature. We can rest in God alone and set aside our concerns about the future. As we take in this message today, let us look for places in our own lives where we can learn to trust God more.
