ORDINARY TIMES of Bull Shoals United Methodist Church Special points of interest: Pastor Donnie s Notes Birthdays & Anniversaries Coming events Minutes of meetings Dear Church Family, It s the love month again! And nothing says, love more than one of those little heart-shaped candies with a Valentine message that you can t read on it, right? Or a chocolate strawberry A box of chocolates Or chocolate bunny? No. Wait. That s Easter. Of course, these and other gifts can be expressions of love, but what really says, love best is what we do and say when an expression of love is not expected. I Corinthians 13, The Love Chapter of the Bible gives a clear definition of love: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. We may fail at it a thousand times over, but let s not give up making love our aim. Being patient is not easy (get to your point Pastor), kindness is not always automatic, (with some people), we want what others have (they have a nicer boat), boasting and pride do seem to come natural (hey, look at me!),...well, you get the point. Love is not always easy, but it always wins. It s the cure for what ails you, as my grandpa used to say. If you find yourself struggling to love, here is some good news: God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. Romans 5:5. I love you, Pastor Donnie

SONS OF THE SILVER DOLLAR These are 3 men who have been performing at Silver Dollar City for about 12 years. They sing all types of music in close harmony. We will have the good fortune to have them be out guests on February 5 th. They will present the worship services at the 9 AM Bull Shoals service as well as the 11 AM service at Yellville. We will then be serving them and the congregants a Pot Luck meal at the Yellville Fellowship Hall. This is where we need help. The Yellville church will provide the drink, condiments and supplement the meal with Fried Chicken from Walmart. Our church will provide a Ham. I am asking for Pot luck dishes from our loyal and generous churches. There will be a sign up sheet in the Narthex of both churches. I know that the Bull Shoals congregation may not want to attend both services in order to go to the Pot Luck. I will help transport your dishes if you d like, BUT I guaranty that you will enjoy the service just as much the second time around. If you choose not to do that, please come to the Pot luck for the fellowship and to support this effort in general. The Sons of the Silver Dollar are doing this for a Love offering. They of course will also have their CD s along with them to sell. They are all so enjoyable! Thank You for your support, Cindy Ramsey If questions 656-8213

Chairman Wade Fox called the meeting to order at 2:05 p.m. The September and October, 2016, minutes were approved as printed in the newsletter. Donnie Hudson presented the financial report. The council reached consensus that the amounts in the designated accounts be printed in Ordinary Times. The financial report was approved. Donnie Hudson reported that the UMM will host the annual chili cook off on January 12 and the Sweetheart Breakfast on February 11. They have dispersed their monies to local charities. Cathy Long reported that the UMW has its 2017 programs in place and have dispersed their monies to local charities. Changes are that there will be no meeting in July, no July 4 bake sale, and only one seating at the roast beef dinner. Donnie Hudson reported that the youth group has lost eight participants. Jean Fischer reported the Special Events committee will help with the potluck luncheon at Yellville on February 5. Wayne Mowry reported the SPRC is in the process of completing required assessments. Jane Mowry reported the Angel Ministries received $1155 in donations and that gifts were distributed to members who needed help with gifts for children, as well as to shut-ins and those who are alone at Christmas. Connie Zonick reported that she and Chuck delivered four loaves of bread. Of the recipients, one joined the church and two others are attending regularly. Everette Long reported that the local Fire Marshall inspected the church and found that all but one fire extinguisher need to be replaced in the church and administration building and that we are out of code with the suppression system for the stoves. All extinguishers are required to be inspected annually and a hydro test performed every ten years. A tree in the parsonage yard was removed. The Trustees will meet at 9 a.m. on January 26. A motion was made and seconded that we sell or give away the piano in Fellowship Hall. The motion passed. Sharon Arra reported that VBS will be at the Presbyterian Church with dates to be decided.
