Dormition of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church 800 Westridge Road, Greensboro, NC 27410 Rev. Father Sarantis Loulakis Emergency Mobile: 516-526-1475 Office Phone: 336-292-8013 Fax: 336-256-9908 www.dormition.nc.goarch.org office@dormition.nc.goarch.org And Jesus said, Who touched Me? When all denied it Jesus said, Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me.. In today s Holy Gospel reading, the woman afflicted with an issue of blood declared that if only she could touch Jesus garments, she would be healed. She touched fearfully, (humbly) from behind, Jesus tunic; and she was cured of her illness. What a great example of faith! What a thought. What a prayer! We, the faithful, may not be able today to touch Jesus actual garments to receive His healing power. We may, however, touch Jesus in sincere conversation with Him, mystically in communion with other faithful (members) of the Body of Christ which is the Church, in the mystery of Lord s Last Supper. We must not assume that because we have touched Jesus we are a part of a community, a church. But there are moments when we humbly and willingly show compassion to those in need of healing, i.e., feeding the hungry, forgiving, releasing that awful bitterness, etc. It is through that experience that we will attain a kind of inexpressible trembling that make us say loudly: I have touched Jesus, or better, Jesus has just touched me repeating the Publican s words Lord, I am not worthy to lift my eyes towards You. Be merciful to me, a sinner. Our mission is to become Disciples of Christ, through thought, word and deed, humbly submitting to the will of the Father, while seeking the Holy Spirit to achieve Salvation. Our Vision with the Grace of God, is to provide a loving community where all belong to Christ, through worship, sanctification, education, witness, compassion and fellowship. Bulletin for Sunday, October 28, 2018 Holy Veil of the Theotokos

WELCOME TO ALL VISITORS: For those visiting an Orthodox Church for the first time, we welcome you and thank you for praying with us. When it comes time for the receiving of the Holy Communion from the Chalice, please be aware that Holy Communion is a sign of unity of faith and it is only offered to Baptized or Chrismated Orthodox Christians. All present are welcome, however, to partake of the antidoro (blessed bread) which is distributed at the end of the service. If you are interested in learning more about the Orthodox Faith, please see Father Sarantis after the service. 7th Sunday of Luke 3rd Antiphon: The Hymn of the Day Tone 5: (Page 98 in the green hymnal) (Τὸν συνάναρχον ) Let us the faithful give praise and worship to the Logos, co-eternal with the Father and the Spirit, born of the Virgin for our salvation, For of His own goodwill He consented to ascend the Cross in the flesh and endured death and raise the dead by His glorious Resurrection. Eisodikon (Hymn of the Entrance): Come, let us worship and bow down before Christ. Save us, O Son of God risen from the dead, we sing to you: Alleluia. Resurrection Hymn of the Day Tone 5: (Page 98 in the green hymnal) (Τὸν συνάναρχον ) Let us the faithful give praise and worship to the Logos, co-eternal with the Father and the Spirit, born of the Virgin for our salvation, For of His own goodwill He consented to ascend the Cross in the flesh and endured death and raise the dead by His glorious Resurrection. The Hymn for the Veil Tone 1: (Τῆς Σκέπης σου Παρθέν, ) We sing the praise of the graces of your Protecting Veil, O Virgin, which like a light-bearing cloud you unfold beyond understanding, and you spiritually protect your people from every assault of their foe. For we have gained you as Protection and defender and helper, as we cry out to you: Glory to your mighty deeds, O Pure one; glory to your Protection; glory to your providence towards us, O Immaculate! The Hymn of the Church Tone 1: ) In giving birth you remained a virgin and in your Dormition you did not forsake this world, O Theotokos. For as the Mother of Life you have yourself passed into life, and by your prayers you deliver our souls from death. Kontakion of the Feast Tone 8: (Ὥσπερ νεφέλη ἀγλαῶς ἐπισκιάζουσα,...) Like a cloud brightly overshadowing the whole company of the Church, O allpure you appeared of old on the royal City. But as the Protection and Champion of your people, protect from every affliction us who cry to you: Hail, Protection wholly light.

Epistle Reading: Galatians 6:11-18 Brethren, see with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand. It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh that would compel you to be circumcised, and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. For even those who receive circumcision do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may glory in your flesh. But far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. Peace and mercy be upon all who walk by this rule, upon the Israel of God. Henceforth let no man trouble me; for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen. Gospel Reading: Luke 8:41-56 (Holy Cross book pg. 104) At that time, there came to Jesus a man named Jairus, who was a ruler of the synagogue; and falling at Jesus' feet he besought him to come to his house, for he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying. As he went, the people pressed round him. And a woman who had had a flow of blood for twelve years and had spent all her living upon physicians and could not be healed by anyone, came up behind him, and touched the fringe of his garment; and immediately her flow of blood ceased. And Jesus said, "Who was it that touched me?" When all denied it, Peter and those who were with him said, "Master, the multitudes surround you and press upon you!" But Jesus said, "Some one touched me; for I perceive that power has gone forth from me." And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. And he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace." While he was still speaking, a man from the ruler's house came and said, "Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher any more." But Jesus on hearing this answered him, "Do not fear; only believe, and she shall be well." And when he came to the house, he permitted no one to enter with him, except Peter and John and James, and the father and mother of the child. And all were weeping and bewailing her; but he said, "Do not weep; for she is not dead but sleeping." And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. But taking her by the hand he called, saying, "Child, arise." And her spirit returned, and she got up at once; and he directed that something should be given her to eat. And her parents were amazed; but he charged them to tell no one what had happened. ***The Ushers will dismiss the congregation row by row for receiving the Holy Communion***

Daughters of Penelope Bake Sale and AHEPA Meal November 4 th, 11am-5pm Introduction to Orthodoxy Class for Adults Dormition of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church offers an introductory course on the Orthodox Church taught by Fr. Sarantis Loulakis. The one-hour class surveys the history, spirituality, doctrine, and worship of the Orthodox Church. The The class is especially intended for those who are thinking about converting to Orthodoxy and for family members and friends who would like to support them on their journey, but it is also open to people who are already Orthodox and who would like to deepen their understanding of their faith. The class explores Christian theology and practice through reading selections of Scripture, the Church Fathers, the lives of the Saints, and other texts representative of the Orthodox worldview. These readings are the starting point for our discussions, which aim at clarifying doctrine and worship and helping us to discover (or rediscover), week after week, why we belong in the Church. Classes will be held (Bi-weekly) every OTHER Wednesday night at 7:00pm in church starting on October 17th, 2018. Occasionally the class date and time may be changed with ample time of notice. If you are interested in attending the class, please contact Fr. Sarantis Loulakis at patersarantis@yahoo.com with any questions.

The definition of fulfilling one s financial obligation to the Parish is by necessity a flexible one based upon each Parishioners personal circumstances and commitment. Generally, for purposes of voting in Parish Assemblies and elections, one is considered to have fulfilled his or her stewardship to the Parish if he or she has, at least three months prior, made a pledge for the current year by signing a stewardship card in Time, Talent or Treasure. As an exception, if the Parishioner has been a Member in Good Standing in the year immediately preceding but is not in good standing for the current year as a Parish Assembly or election approaches, he or she may be brought back in good standing (assuming all other qualifications of a Member in Good Standing are met) by submitting a signed pledge card at least seven (7) days prior to the Parish Assembly or election.

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
