THE BREAD BASKET Morsels from Bread of Life Lutheran Church January 2018 Bread of Life Lutheran Church 7510 36 th Avenue Hudsonville, MI 49426 (616)797-9930 Pastor Paul Krupinski Cell (616)635-0058 Email: bollc@breadoflifelc.org Web: www.breadoflifelc.org Search for us on Facebook www.facebook.com/ Breadoflife Sunday Worship Schedule with Holy Communion We invite you to worship, grow & serve with us! A new year...a new beginning...a fresh start...a chance to change some things. That s what January 1 st signifies for a lot of people. New Year s resolutions abound in many homes, all dedicated to making something better in how one lives. I bring this up because I want to remind you (as if you really need reminding!) that one of the perks of being a Christian is that every day is a new beginning, a fresh start and a chance to change some things. Because of God s claim on our lives in baptism, we are reborn each day through his grace and love. We are freed from the past and its heaviness and born anew to an opportunity to reflect God s presence in our lives through what we say and what we do. It is a wondrous joy being loved by God, not because of anything we can do or accomplish, but simply because his love overpowers our humanness and restores us to a right relationship with him...believe it, because it s true! January also brings the time when we gather as members for the annual meeting of the congregation...please mark your calendars for the 28 th of this month for the meeting to follow worship. We will be electing new council members, approving a budget (spending plan) and reviewing the past year. Christmas Eve worship was different this year compared to last year. This was the second year of two services (4:00 and 7:00 p.m.). Last year total attendance for the two services was 141! This year the first service totaled 16 people (including myself, Laurel at the piano and Jeff Stracke with this coronet). On my way to church I encountered numerous emergency vehicles for the four cars deep in the ditch and the three accidents...the roads were bad. So, those in attendance felt that a 7:00 p.m. service would put people at risk, with many probably not even thinking of going out. All thirteen voted to cancel the late service, so we did. I drove 30 mph all the way home and knew it was a good decision. I hope that our announcement on TV and Facebook post was enough to alert people to the change...if not, I offer my sincerest apology for any problems the action caused. On Christmas eve morning Jane and I were gifted by all of you...we received a beautiful crèche scene (on display in my office...come and look), some currency and a renewed membership for the Meijer Gardens. Thanks so much for remembering us that way...it was a joy to receive the gifts! Right now I m looking out the window of my office here at church and the snow on the evergreens is beautiful, but the temperature is in the single digits. So glad the new HVAC system is in place and working! As a community of faith you have been good and faithful stewards, compassionate and caring for one another while being committed to looking into the future. I continue to pray that Bread of Life will be what God needs it to be in this community and for its members. I am excited about the coming year and the new adventures that God will bring to us. Take care and may God continue to bless you and all of your loved ones...see you at worship. Pastor Paul
