SCHOOL NEWS March 26, 2019 Dear Saint Peter School Families, Lent is a special time of prayer, penance, sacrifice and good works in preparation for the celebration of Easter. Pope Francis asks us to seek a heart that is merciful, attentive and generous. Lent is the perfect time to reflect on how we can achieve this call. This season of Lent gives us the perfect opportunity to look into our hearts and to reflect on our lives so that we may work consciously on improving our relationship with God and becoming the best people we can be. Our students will be participating in Stations of the Cross this week and will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation in April as part of our preparation for Easter. While we most often give up material things during Lent, we are asked to devote ourselves to the spiritual and corporal works of mercy that "remind us that faith finds expression in concrete everyday actions meant to help our neighbors in body and spirit." These works are evident in our children through filling our mission boxes, collecting Easter baskets for St. Gregory s, and participating in the Diocesan Day of Service. We will continue to encourage these works in our students as we proceed through our Lenten journey here at school. I hope that you will all be inspired during your own Lenten journey through prayer, Scripture, fasting, and alms giving. We are called not just to abstain from sin during Lent, but to true conversion of our hearts and minds as followers of Christ. Peace and blessings always, Mrs. Kobrin

Diocesan Day of Service Dear Students and Families- Once again, as a school, we will be participating in the Diocesan Day of Service slated to be held on May 3, 2019. Last year because of your generosity and the generosity of the surrounding parishes we were able to donate numerous comfort bags and gift cards to sick children and their families at local hospitals in Burlington, Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean counties This year, in addition to the comfort bags, each class will be assembling a no sew quilt. We are hoping to meet our goal of 200 Gift Cards and 200 comfort bags and are asking for your help to meet our goals in the following ways: 1.) Donation of gift cards- we are asking each FAMILY to donate one gift card in any amount- suggestions can be found in the flier that follows 2.) Donation of items- we are asking each STUDENT to donate AT LEAST one item (or more if the spirit moves you) as listed on the flier that follows. 3.) Participation in Dress Down Day which will be held on Friday, April 12 th - see flier for details. 4.) Participation in the Jelly Bean Guess- 1.00 per entry- enter as many times as you wish during lunch periods from April 1 st -12 th 5.) Raffle- DRESS DOWN FOR A WEEK- $5.00 per chance 6.) Participation in a Dance- a-thon- held on Friday April 12 th - everyone will receive a sponsor sheet and dance for 1 hour- anyone with a more competitive nature and who returns the proper permission will fundraise for an additional 4 hours- details to follow- we need at least 25 dancers to do the additional 4 hours for this to be a success. Information about this fundraiser will be available in the April 1 Communication folder. All questions can be directed to Lynn Faugno 732-892-1260 or lfaugno@stpschool. March, 2019 Dear Saint Peter School Families, Thank you for your continuous support of Saint Gregory s Food Pantry. Our next project is to collect donations for Easter. Volunteers at the pantry have asked that this year we send completed Easter baskets, not items to be made into Easter baskets as we have done in the past. Putting together the baskets takes more time and volunteers than are available. If a family would like to donate a completed basket, this would be most welcome. We were reminded that nonperishables are always needed. Perhaps this year we can donate Easter dinner foods or any food items you think will be enjoyed by the many families receiving help at this time. The need is great and all donations are much appreciated. All of our classes will be collecting your donations to be delivered to Saint Gregory s. Should your family wish to fill and wrap a basket, it would be gratefully accepted and delivered with all of our food donations. All donations are due by April 8th. Thank you for your continuous generosity. Your children are learning so much from you about doing God s will by helping others. God bless you during this holy Lenten season. Sincerely, Mrs. Scotto and Mrs. Palazzo
