NO AR HADASH ISRAEL EXPERIENCE SAMPLE ITINERARY Please note that the itinerary is subject to change due to last minute program availability, security concerns, and other factors as determined by Camp JRF and No ar Hadash staff, in consultation with IsraelExperts and the Security Department of the SPNI. Sunday, July 13 Monday, July 14: Orientation Meet the other members of the group and get ready for the trip of a lifetime. On Monday, take the overnight flight from Newark to Tel Aviv (ElAl 28 is scheduled to depart at 1:30 pm and arrive at 7:00 am the next day). Tuesday, July 15: Welcome to Israel! After an overnight flight, you will be met at the airport by your guide and the IsraelExperts staff. Start the trip at the Biblical Landscape Park of Neot Kedumim. Learn about the significant connection between the Bible and the Land of Israel. You ll also have a chance to test your sheepherding skills while you learn something about yourself! Biblical lunch at Neot Kedumim. Shehekheyanu prayer and lookout over the City of Jerusalem from the Haas Promenade, giving thanks for the opportunity to travel and explore. Also, learn about the unique geography of this area and its complicated demographics. Visit the City of David, including Hezekiah s Water Tunnel, built 2700 years ago to bring water from the Gihon Spring to the city during the Assyrian siege of the city. Check in and dinner at the hotel. Orientation with guide and staff. Wednesday, July 16: Jerusalem, Holy to All Walk on the walls of the Old City. Spend the day in the Old City of Jerusalem, including the Davidson Center, Kotel, Jewish Quarter, Church of the Holy Sepulcher, Christian Quarter, Muslim Quarter, and other significant sites that are important to the people of many religions. Tour the Kotel tunnels and explore the vast network of history below and behind the Kotel. Enjoy dinner and karaoke at Yosi s Tent on Derekh Burma. Derekh Burma program with members of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association. Learn about Jewish peoplehood and the role Jews from the Diaspora have in the narrative of the Jewish People in Israel.

Thursday, July 17: One People At Yad L Kashish (Lifeline for the Old), visit the artisan workshops providing work and a feeling of empowerment to Jerusalem s elderly community. Interact with the residents and hear the stories of the people that have built the country. Visit the newly renovated Israel Museum, including a visit to the Shrine of the Book (Dead Sea Scrolls) and the Second Temple model. Program with Israeli/Palestinian Center for Research and Information, including meeting with Palestinian teens. Dialogue with teens from Orthodox communities as part of an evening program with the Gesher Institute on how to bridge the differences between different streams in Judaism. Friday, July 18: Digging Our Roots, Charting Our Personal Journey Dig into Israel in an actual archeological dig. Begin your exploration of the strata of Israel s tangible present, deep past, and promising future. Visit Makhaneh Yehuda Jerusalem s largest shuk (outdoor market) for lunch. Feel the hustlebustle of Shabbat preparations in the Holy City. Kabbalat Shabbat in Jerusalem. Kiddush, dinner, and oneg shabbat at the hotel. Overnight: Jerusalem Tower (Jerusalem) Saturday, July 19: Eternity Uttered a Day Shabbat morning services and lunch. Walking tour of Jerusalem neighborhoods. Dinner and havdalah at the hotel. Evening on Ben Yehuda Street. Overnight: Jerusalem Tower (Jerusalem) Sunday, July 20: Flight to the Wilderness Meet with representatives of Blue & White Human Rights, a right wing Israeli Palestinian human rights organization. Hike in Ein Gedi. Volunteer at Ein Gedi ancient synagogue. Dinner at hotel. Overnight: Masada Youth Hostel (Masada)

Monday, July 21: The Masada Option Sunrise climb up Masada. Swim in the Dead Sea (actually, float don t swim)! Visit a Bedouin mosque in the city of Rahat to learn about the traditions of the community. Meet with Bedouin teens. Overnight: Kibbutz Sde Yoav (Central Region) Tuesday, July 22: Tikkun Olam Help to alleviate the problem of nutritional insecurity amongst Israel s poor by picking fruits and vegetables at the Leket (Table to Table) field near Rehovot. Spend the afternoon with the young Israeli scouts participating in a leadership course. Drive north to the Galilee. Wednesday, July 23: Diverse Religions in Israel Explore the fascinating city of Tzfat, regarded as one of the four holy cities in Judaism (along with Jerusalem, Tiberias, and Hebron) and known as a center for Kabbalah, an esoteric form of Jewish mysticism. Tour the ancient synagogues and artists square and meet with a local artist. Visit Capernaum, known as the hometown of St. Peter and an important pilgrimage site for Christians from around the world. Sunset boat ride on the Kinneret. Thursday, July 24: Poets and Pioneers Spend the day with Hechalutz, hearing the stories of the pioneers and poets that established the country. Bishara drumming evening program. Friday, July 25: Higher and Higher Hike at Tel Dan. Witness the natural beauty and strategic advantage of the Golan Heights from Mount Bental. Visit Oz77 near the Valley of Tears to hear the story of the battles for Israel s survival. Rafting on the Jordan River. Kabbalat Shabbat, dinner, and oneg shabbat at the guesthouse. Saturday, July 26: Shabbat on the Kinneret Shabbat morning services. Swimming, free time, and an afternoon to relax.

Sunday, July 27: Industry and Innovation Visit the Ancient city of Tziporri and the excavated mosaic floors in ancient synagogues. At Moshav Shorashim, witness the co existence circus where Arab and Jewish children perform together. Overnight: Kibbutz Shomrat (Western Galilee) Monday, July 28: Coexistence Is Possible Hike in the Western Galilee. Enjoy a dance performance by the world famous Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company. After the performance, engage in a talk with the dancers, both Arabs and Jews. Tour the Tefen Industrial Park that combines local industry, culture, and art, and includes five museums, sculpture gardens, and art galleries. Learn about the Tefen model, meet one of the project leaders, and tour the park. Dinner at guesthouse. Overnight: Kibbutz Shomrat (Western Galilee) Tuesday, July 29: Minorities in Israel Drive to Haifa and enjoy the view over the city and bay from the upper city. Tour the Baha i Shrine and Garden and learn about this unique religion and how its values are manifest in the gardens. Visit the Atlit detainee camp to hear the story of the ma apilim, the illegal Jewish immigrants arriving at the shores of Israel during the British Mandate. Visit the Druze village of Ussefia for a tour of the village and dinner. Overnight: Art Gallery (Haifa) Wednesday, July 30: To Build and Be Built Visit the interactive exhibit in Caesarea, once the Roman capital of the region, and see the excavations, the aqueducts, and the amphitheater. Spend time at an Ethiopian National Project summer program. Drive to Tel Aviv, where you will visit Rabin Square to discuss the effects of Rabin s assassination on the present and future of the state of Israel by interacting with locals. Visit the Tel Aviv Gay Center and meet with a member of the Israeli gay youth movement. Afternoon and evening with Israeli friends and relatives or other fun in Tel Aviv.

Thursday, July 31: Where We ve Come From and Where We re Going Explore Machon Ayalon, a hidden munitions factory at the time of the War of Independence. Visit Independence Hall where David Ben Gurion proclaimed Israel s Independence in 1948. With Bina, find personal meaning in Jewish texts or engage in tikkun olam in south Tel Aviv. Learn about asylum seekers in South Tel Aviv. Friday, August 1: Tel Aviv, Old-New City Take a guided tour of the Old City of Jaffa, an ancient port city and home today to Jews, Christians, and Muslims. Wander through the Jaffa Flea Market. Tour Nakhalat Binyamin arts and crafts market and the Carmel Market to enjoy the Friday afternoon scene. See a different side of Tel Aviv with Guy Sharett, linguist extraordinaire, who will guide you through the streets of the Florentine neighborhood and tell you about the city and the country by deciphering the graffiti on the walls. Kabbalat Shabbat with Bet Tefilah HaYisraeli at the Tel Aviv Port. Saturday, August 2: Kodesh vehol - Shabbat in Tel Aviv Hang out at the beach and enjoy a Tel Aviv shabbat. Dinner and relaxing at the Tel Aviv Port. Sunday, August 3: Living in the Desert, Then and Now Experience life with a disability at the Dialogue in the Dark interactive exhibit at the Holon Children s Museum. Drive to Sde Boker, the final home of Israel s first Prime Minister, David Ben Gurion, where you will visit his grave and learn about his vision for the State of Israel. Overnight: Camping in the Negev Monday, August 4: Ben Gurion, Prophet and Pioneer Arrive at the renovated Ramon Crater visitors center, named after the late Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon and his son Assaf. Ride a camel and enjoy a Hafla Bedouin style meal. Explore and learn about Israeli agriculture in a one of a kind farm activity in Shvil Hasalat ( The Salad Path ). Bite into juicy tiger tomatoes, purple carrots, and edible flowers, all growing in the heart of the desert. Program on Tisha beav, followed by a night hike and stargazing at your desert campsite. Overnight: Kibbutz Gvulot (Western Negev)

Tuesday, August 5, 2014: Tisha beav Travel to Beer Sheva, capitol of the Negev. Visit the Chatzerim Air Force Museum to learn about the history and modern aircraft that make the Israeli Air Force one of strongest in the world. At the new Karaso Science Park, dive into science in a new interactive state of the art exhibition. Drive north to visit the Ramle Open House Peace Education Center and meet with Jewish and Arab teens from the city. Wednesday, August 6: Landmarks in the Israeli Narrative Experience a powerful visit to Yad Vashem, Israel's national memorial to the Holocaust. Meet with a representative from Women of the Wall. Processing session, followed by dinner. Thursday, August 7: If You Will It - Next Steps... Visit Mount Herzl, Israel's military cemetery and burial place of great Israeli leaders such as Yitzhak Rabin, Golda Meir, and Theodore Herzl, as well as thousands of soldiers killed in the line of duty. Shopping and free time in downtown Jerusalem. Last visit to the Kotel. Farewell dinner before heading to the airport for overnight flight. Overnight: Flight Friday, August 8 Sunday, August 10: Shabbat at Camp JRF On Friday, take the overnight flight from Tel Aviv to Newark (ElAl 27 is scheduled to depart at 12:30 am and arrive at 5:40 am).
