Volume 5, Issue 7 July 2016 ZION EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH WITH ST. MATTHEW S CHAPEL Zion Life Newsletter Ways to get involved at Zion/St. Matt s: Program, beginning July 5, Monday Friday, 11:30 1 pm Bible Study, Thursday mornings, 10:45 am W.E.L.C.A., Saturday, July 9, 10:00 am Food Pantry & Parson s Closet, Saturday, July 16, 9 12 The President s Paragraph The Congregation Council met at 12:30 on Sunday, June 12, to discuss many issues, like our "Tearing Down Walls" series, the assembly hall floor at Zion, the July 4 county-wide parade in Sharon Springs, renewing our membership in CPI/CAM, employees serving on Council, Life Tree Café, the recent Synod Assembly, a celebration of Carol McGuire's years as our organist, and Imam Elmi's invitation to Zion members for a Ramadan dinner at Albany's City Hall on June 25. Council president John Jarvis also reminded the Council members that the Pastoral Care Department at Cobleskill Regional Hospital is always looking for new members. Any reader of this report who wants to know more about any topic mentioned here can call John at 234-2933 any time. John Jarvis, 2016 Council president

St. Matthew s Matters The Ministry Board at St. Ma hew's Chapel usually meets on the first Tuesday of the month, but the MB didn't do so in June 2016 because Pr. Sara was at the Synod Assembly on that first Tuesday. The MB thus rescheduled the mee ng for Wednesday, June 22. I am guessing that there will be two major topics: the July 4 county-wide parade in Sharon Springs and selec ng a date for a dinner mee ng of the St. Ma 's worshipers to discuss the probable future sale of our building and the steps leading up to that transac on. Another topic may well be the annual late-summer annual ice cream social. Anyone seeking more informa on about any of these topics can call me at 234-2933 any me. John Jarvis, Ministry Board secretary Zion s Food Pantry We served 38 households (75 individuals, 2 new households) on our May 21 Pantry Day. We were blessed with 15 volunteers. Our next Food Pantry Day will be Saturday, July 16 from 9 12 and the next Regional Food Bank Pickup Day will be July 22 at 8:15 am. A great amount of donated food from the Postal Food Drive has helped to restock our panty. We should be ready for the July 16th Pantry Day even if the Regional Food Bank pick-up is the following Friday. Vacation Lunch Program Just a reminder that we will be running the Vaca on Lunch Program beginning July 5 August 19 from 11:30 1 pm weekdays. We are always happy to receive dona ons of food and money as well as volunteers to help prepare and serve the food as well as interact with those who come for lunch. Contact Judy Warner at 231-2753 for more informa on! Sandy Deems Food Pantry Food Coordinator We have begun to build up our stock of quilts for next year s Ingathering for Lutheran World Relief. A quilt was ed off on May 14th. We will not be mee ng again un l September. Sandy Deems W.E.L.C.A. Leader
