If you are an actor in a movie, you have to follow the lead of the director. That s why he is called the director. He is directing the movie. You have to be willing to do what he tells you to do. As Christians, we must allow God to direct our lives. We can look to Him for everything we need in this life. In the Bible story today, we see that Noah is allowing God to direct Him. Because of his willingness to obey, the entire human race is spared from the great flood. Following God as our director will bring blessing into our lives. LISTEN TO THE DIRECTOR WE NEED TO LOOK TO GOD FOR DIRECTION IN LIFE Lead me, Lord, in your righteousness because of my enemies. Psalm 5:8

Illustrated Sermon Listen To The Director Supplies Needed: Movie clapperboard (You can find these at party stores or online.), binoculars, mouthwash, hand sanitizer, foot powder, headache medicine Preparation: Intro Imagine you were the lead actor in a movie. The set is ready. The cameras are ready. The clapperboard is snapped. (Say, scene 1 take 1 and smack the clapper down. ) Everybody is in place and the director says, ACTION! But instead of doing what he wants, you do want you want. What do you think would happen? (Allow for response.) That s right. You would get fired! In the Bible story today, we see that God has regretted creating the human race and decides to wipe them out with a world wide flood. However, God also decides to allow one man and his family to live. God instructs Noah to build a very large boat for his family and for many animals. Noah allowed God to direct his life. Whatever God told him to do, he did. Think about it though. God was asking him to do the craziest thing! He asked him to build this massive boat on dry land! It wasn't like Noah lived near and ocean. Think about the people who lived around Noah. Imagine how he and his family were treated? He was probably laughed at and made fun of. Noah didn t let what anyone said about him distract him from what God told him to do. He followed God s directions for the ark and did exactly what He told him to do. (Pull out binoculars) Here are three things we need to look to our director for: 1. LOOK TO THE DIRECTOR FOR WHAT TO SAY (Pull out mouthwash) Our mouths can often get us into trouble. This is mouthwash. It cleans our mouths and takes away bad breath. In the same way we need the words we say to be clean. When an actor is on the movie set, he has to make sure he is saying what the director wants. God gave Noah directions to build an ark. Noah never said to God that this was a crazy thing to do. Actually, Noah went and told his family what God said. Noah only spoke about what God told him to do. Many times we say things that God does not want us to say. We gossip. Which is spreading rumors about other people. We often talk back to our parents. Sometimes we just say things that are not true. We must look to the director, God, for what to say. Our words should honor God. Continued...

Illustrated Sermon Continued... 2. LOOK TO THE DIRECTOR FOR WHAT TO DO (Pull out hand sanitizer and foot powder) Have you ever used hand sanitizer to clean your hands after you have touched something with germs on it? (Allow for response) What about your feet? Have you ever had really stinky feet? (Allow for response) Foot powder can help to keep your feet from smelling. These two products remind me of doing. When you DO something you usually use your hands or your feet. When an actor is on the set, he is told by the director where to stand and how to act out the particular scene he is in. We must look to our director for how to act. The places we go and the things we do should bring honor to God. Noah was very careful to DO everything God told him to do. We should do the same. 3. LOOK TO THE DIRECTOR FOR WHAT TO THINK (Pull out headache medicine) This is medicine that people sometimes take when they have a headache. It reminds me of how we need to look to our director for how we need to think. We often have thoughts that come into our minds that are not from God. When an actor takes on a role, he has to think about the way the character would act. The actor will look to the director for how he wants the character to be portrayed. The actor must think the way the director wants him to. Noah made up in his mind that he was going to follow God s directions no matter what. He was probably ridiculed and made fun of by his neighbors, but he never allowed what they said to change his mind. The thoughts we think should honor God. Prayer Time Let s pray right now and ask God to forgive us if we have not been following His directions. Let s ask Him to speak to us right now about what needs to change in our lives. (This would be a good opportunity to lead kids in a prayer of salvation.)

(The Time Blaster Skit can be used with a puppet or a live person. You can set the skit up as if you are bringing the character back from Bible times.) Hey! How s it going? I m Noah. I m a little seasick right now. I ve been out on a big boat for a long time with my family. We just found dry land and were able to get off this boat! Man! What a trip! One day God directed me to build a huge boat. He was going to flood the entire earth because the people were very sinful. He gave me directions to build an ark, and then bring in a bunch of animals on to it. A lot of my neighbors laughed at me and made jokes about what I was doing, but I never let that stop me from what God told me to do. Listen, when God tells you to do something, you need to do it, and trust Him no matter what. After I did all the things God instructed me to do, my family and I went into the ark with all the animals. Then, it started to rain, and I mean hard! It rained for forty days and forty nights! We floated around for a long time until we found dry land. The ark finally came to rest on a mountain. We were all saved because we followed God directions. Well, I ve got to go feed some animals. Bye!
