Pastor Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God, our Father, beseeching Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. Our help is in the name of the Lord. Congr. (sing) Who made heaven and earth Pastor I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord. Congr. (sing) And Thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Pastor Almighty God, our Maker and Redeemer, we poor sinners confess unto You that we are by nature sinful and unclean and that we have sinned against You by thought, word, and deed. Wherefore we flee for refuge to Your infinite mercy, seeking and imploring Your grace for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ. ALL O most merciful God, who hast given Thine only-begotten Son to die for us, have mercy upon us and for His sake grant us remission of all our sins; and by Thy Holy Spirit increase in us true knowledge of Thee and of Thy will and true obedience to Thy Word, to the end that by Thy grace we may come to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Pastor Almighty God, our heavenly Father, has had mercy upon us and has given His only Son to die for us and for His sake forgives us all our sins. To those who believe in His name He gives power to become the sons of God and has promised them His Holy Spirit. He who believes and is baptized shall be saved. Grant this, Lord, unto us all. Congr. (sing) Amen. (congregation is seated) THE INTROIT Having received the Lord s forgiveness, we are glad to enter into His courts with praise and thanksgiving. This entrance is made in the Introit with the Lord s own Word, often from the Psalms. P: Awake, why does it seem as though You sleep, O Lord? C: Arise, and do not cast us off forever. P: Our soul is bowed down to the dust: C: Arise for our help and redeem us. P: We have heard with our ears, O God: C: Our fathers have told us what great works You have done in their day. THE GLORIA PATRI Latin for Glory to the Father (Hymnal, page 6) CONGR. (sing) Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. THE KYRIE Latin for O Lord. We approach our Lord with a cry for help in all the needs of our earthly life. (Hymnal page 7 - sing) Lord have mercy upon us. Christ have mercy upon us. Lord have mercy upon us. THE GLORIA A hymn glorifying and praising our God (Hymn 798:1 - sing) THE SALUTATION (Greeting) PASTOR The Lord be with you. CONGR. (sing) And with thy spirit. THE COLLECT FOR THE DAY The main thoughts for the day are collected together in this prayer. PASTOR Let us pray. CONGR. (sing) Amen. THE BIBLE LESSONS God speaks to us. The Old Testament Reading: Isaiah 6:1-8 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. 2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one cried to another and said: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!" 4 And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke. 5 So I said: "Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The LORD of hosts." 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth with it, and said: "Behold, this has touched

your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged." 8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: "Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me." CONGR: (sing) Praise be to Thee, O Christ! PASTOR Here ends the Old Testament Reading. We continue with the responsive reading of: THE GRADUAL The Gradual is a Bridge of praise that links the Old Testament with the New Testament. P: Out of the depths I have cried to You, O LORD; C: Lord, hear my voice! P: Let Your ears be attentive C: To the voice of my supplications. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! P: If You, LORD, should mark iniquities, C: O Lord, who could stand? Hallelujah! CONGR. (sing) Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! PASTOR The New Testament Reading comes from 1 Corinthians chapter 14, beginning there in the 12 th verse. CONGR. (sing) Glory be to Thee, O Lord! New Testament Reading 1 Corinthians 14:12-20 Even so you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, let it be for the edification of the church that you seek to excel. 13 Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding. 16 Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say "Amen" at your giving of thanks, since he does not understand what you say? 17 For you indeed give thanks well, but the other is not edified. 18 I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all; 19 yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I may teach others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue. 20 Brethren, do not be children in understanding; however, in malice be babes, but in understanding be mature. PASTOR: This ends the New Testament Reading THE APOSTLES CREED We boldly confess what we believe. (Hymnal, page 12) I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary; Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; The Holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; The forgiveness of sins; The resurrection of the body; And the life everlasting. Amen. Hymn 373 THE SERMON Luke 5:1-11 So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the word of God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret, 2 and saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets. 3 Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat. 4 When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, "Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch." 5 But Simon answered and said to Him, "Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net." 6 And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. 7 So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. 8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!" 9 For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish which they had taken; 10 and so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men." 11 So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him. Theme: CAPTAIN ON DECK!

I. Jesus gives us His spiritual blessings II. Jesus gives us His earthly blessings III. Jesus calls forth faith and service Hymn 785 Congregation stands for: PASTOR: THE BENEDICTION The blessing given by God for the blessing of His people (Numbers 6:24-26). The LORD bless you and keep you. The LORD make His face shine upon you and be gracious unto you. The LORD lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. CONGR. (sing) Amen, Amen, Amen. The Closing Hymn 544:5-6 *** SILENT PRAYER *** THE OFFERTORY In this prayer we OFFER God our hearts, asking Him for that best of all gifts, the Holy Spirit. (Hymnal, pages 12-13) (sing) Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Thy presence, and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation; and uphold me with Thy free spirit. Amen. THE OFFERING OF THANKFUL HEARTS In tangible evidence of our gratitude, we offer the Lord the gift of our money, remembering that He has first given to us that we might have to give to Him. While the ushers present our offerings at the Lord s Altar, we stand and sing the offering hymn 441:1-2: We give Thee but Thine own, Whate'er the gift may be; All that we have is Thine alone, A trust, O Lord, from Thee. May we Thy bounties thus As stewards true receive And gladly, as Thou blessest us, To Thee our first-fruits give! PRAYERS - (Pastor) THE LORD S PRAYER - (All) Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Old Testament Reading for 5 th Sunday after Epiphany Isaiah 6:1-8 Because of his own sins, Isaiah the prophet knows he s not worthy to be in the presence of the holy LORD. But the Word of God, symbolized by the hot coal, cleanses him as it does us. The really blessed thing about serving the LORD is that every thing we able to accomplish for Him comes from Him. The Word, our abilities and talents, even the willingness to freely volunteer for His Kingdom work. We read New Testament Reading 1 Corinthians 14:12-20

Paul here continues his emphasis on the spiritual gifts that build up the Christian church. Especially for people that are new to the Christian faith, Paul tells us that it is much better to preach in words that people can understand than in a language that no one else present can understand or gain anything from. We read
