Four Pictures of the Kingdom

Luke 13:18 ESV He said therefore, "What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it?

Four Pictures of the Kingdom Like a Mustard Seed (Matt. 13:31-32)

Matthew 13:31-32 ESV He put another parable before them, saying, "The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. 32 It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches."

Four Pictures of the Kingdom Like a Mustard Seed (Matt. 13:31-32) Like Leaven (Matt. 13:33)

Matthew 13:33 ESV He told them another parable. "The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened."

Four Pictures of the Kingdom Like a Mustard Seed (Matt. 13:31-32) Like Leaven (Matt. 13:33) Like a Hidden Treasure (Matt. 13:44)

Matthew 13:44 ESV "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

Mark 10:21-22 ESV And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, "You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." 22 Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

Philippians 3:4-11 ESV though I myself have reason for confidence in the flesh also. If anyone else thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more: 5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; 6 as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law, blameless. 7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.

Philippians 3:4-11 ESV 8 For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith-- 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.

Four Pictures of the Kingdom Like a Mustard Seed (Matt. 13:31-32) Like Leaven (Matt. 13:33) Like a Hidden Treasure (Matt. 13:44) Like a Costly Pearl (Matt. 13:45-46)

Matthew 13:45-46 ESV "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, 46 who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

Identifying the Kingdom Mark 9:1 The kingdom would come with power

Mark 9:1 ESV And he said to them, "Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power."

Identifying the Kingdom Mark 9:1 The kingdom would come with power Acts 1:1-8 The power would come with the Holy Spirit

Acts 1:1-8 ESV In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach, 2 until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. 3 He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.

Acts 1:1-8 ESV 4 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, "you heard from me; 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." 6 So when they had come together, they asked him, "Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" 7 He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority.

Acts 1:1-8 ESV 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

Identifying the Kingdom Mark 9:1 The kingdom would come with power Acts 1:1-8 The power would come with the Holy Spirit Acts 2:1-4 The Holy Spirit came with power on Pentecost => SO DID THE KINGDOM!!

Acts 2:1-4 ESV When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

The Announcing of the Kingdom Acts 2:22-24 Jesus was from God, you crucified Him, and God raised Him

Acts 2:22-24 ESV "Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know-- 23 this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. 24 God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.

The Announcing of the Kingdom Acts 2:22-24 Jesus was from God, you crucified Him, and God raised Him 2:32-33 After He ascended He sent the power with the Holy Spirit

Acts 2:32-33 ESV This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses. 33 Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.

The Announcing of the Kingdom Acts 2:22-24 Jesus was from God, you crucified Him, and God raised Him 2:32-33 After He ascended He sent the power with the Holy Spirit 2:34-36 This proves He is the anointed King and is reigning now

Acts 2:34-36 ESV For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says, "'The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, 35 until I make your enemies your footstool.' 36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified."

The Announcing of the Kingdom Acts 2:22-24 Jesus was from God, you crucified Him, and God raised Him 2:32-33 After He ascended He sent the power with the Holy Spirit 2:34-36 This proves He is the anointed King and is reigning now If the king is reigning now, has the kingdom come? YES

YES 2:37-41 The response

Acts 2:37-41 ESV Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?" 38 And Peter said to them, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself."

Questions Is the kingdom of God growing in your life? Is the kingdom of God mixed in every part of your life so it can have its intended effect? Are you have the effect God intends on the world around you? Have you found the kingdom of God? What is it worth to you?
