Daniel Chapter One - Page 4 of 6 Fear brings Fear Exodus 20:20 - Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that His fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. Giving Glory to God One must understand what God s glory is; when Moses said to God, Shew me Thy glory, the reply was that God would proclaim the Name of the Lord. Then God revealed to Moses His character In short, God s GLORY is His NAME which is His CHARACTER (See Exodus 33:18-23, 34:5-8). God, by asking us to give Him glory, is asking for a major life reformation. One of the best practical verses for knowing how to proclaim God s glory in our lives is found in 1 Corinthians 10:31. (Eat, drink, whatever ) Our diet has a MAJOR role in giving God glory. Why Focus on Appetite? Why should we concentrate on something that seems so unnecessary to our salvation our health? Please consider... Adam and Eve lost their home to appetite in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:1-7). The children of Israel were, in part, destroyed because of their desire of perverted appetite in Numbers 11:1-9, and then after complaining so much, God finally gave them what they wanted in verse 31-33. Jesus first temptation in the wilderness was regarding appetite (Matthew 4:1-4). God knew that it was important for His Son to overcome for us because we are a people whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things (Philippians 3:19). The solemn message of Revelation 14:6-12 we see that one of the first things God asks us to do is give Him glory, which encompasses appetite. Ellen White
Daniel Chapter One - Page 5 of 6 was given visions regarding health. One more reason why we should take this subject seriously is because this message is found in the book written for the time of the end (Daniel 12:4) a clarion call for reformation. Like the body, the mind derives its strength from the food it receives (AH 410). Pulse Daniel and his companions asked for pulse (Vs. 12). This was a diet of something sown (#2235 in Strong s concordance). This refers to fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, and beans. They asked for a diet that would be best for their health, and least harmful to the environment in which they lived. Water to drink was the best possible substance for them as well. I wonder if all the GMOs (genetically modified organisms), the pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and the other cides of the enemies plans, are effecting our abilities to think clearly, as we know that God s messenger has said, Let none who profess godliness regard with indifference the health of the body, and flatter themselves that intemperance is no sin, and will not affect their spirituality. A close sympathy exists between the physical and the moral nature. The standard of virtue is elevated or degraded by the physical habits. Excessive eating of the best of food will produce a morbid condition of the moral feelings. And if the food is not the most healthful, the effects will be still more injurious. Any habit which does not promote healthful action in the human system, degrades the higher and nobler faculties. Wrong habits of eating and drinking lead to errors in thought and action. Indulgence of appetite strengthens the animal propensities, giving them the ascendancy over the mental and spiritual powers (CD 62). As a result of eating this way, in just a short time, their countenances appeared fairer (Vs. 15). Ladies, here is the secret to fair skin and less acne. It s true... check it out. The Bible also says they were fatter in flesh. Men, here is the key to looking as fit as possible. God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom. Students, here is the way to get higher grades, and a higher education. Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams. Philosophers, scientists, mathematicians, do you want to think clearer and have a greater ability to comprehend some of the mysteries of this world? Try this diet, it will help. The king communed with them"... Corporate leaders, business men and women, people in high positions, you will soon meet someone that is in a higher position than you are; is your mind clear enough to give an answer that will count when they commune with you? Daniel s diet will enhance your clarity of mind. It s all true... check it out. No matter who you are, no matter what you do, you could be found ten times better (Vs. 20).
Daniel Chapter One - Page 6 of 6 Final Application When the economic boycott and mark of the beast issue hits this world, what are you going to do if you are addicted to something like caffeine, nicotine, over the counter drugs, illegal drugs, or even doctor prescribed medications? It will be difficult enough to make clear minded decisions with nothing but the Bible as Your foundation when the world is against you but how much harder will it be if you are demanded of your body to supply it with a real addiction during that time?
