Dear Church Family, Happy New Year! I can t believe another year has come and gone. This means that I ve had the privilege of serving as your pastor for another year. It means that God has shown His faithfulness to our church for another year. It means that we have seen lives changed, people baptized, and believers added to our church for another year. And it means that God isn t finished with the work that He wants to do in your life, in your family, and in our church. I m so grateful for all that God has done in 2017 and I m looking forward with great anticipation to 2018! Even though the years continue to come and go, our mission remains the same. We are called to go and make disciples. A disciple is a fully-devoted follower of Christ someone who will connect, grow, and serve on a regular basis. To follow Christ means to spend time with Him daily in the Word and in prayer. It means to gather with believers in worship on a consistent basis. It means that you are a part of a Life Group as you grow in accountability and fellowship. And it means you use your God-given abilities and passions to serve the Lord and His church. When we see one year go and a new one come, we are reminded of our goals and priorities. In fact, many will develop a list of New Year s Resolutions. But I want to remind you, while the years change, our purpose as a church remains the same. We are a place where lives can be changed by the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are a place where all people are welcomed regardless of background, mistakes, or history. We are a place where chains are broken and the captives are set free. We are a place where people are trained and then released to share the gospel with a broken world. I want to briefly mention three words that you will hear as a consistent theme for 2018: prayer, discipleship, and evangelism. These are three words that God continues to bring to my mind as I anticipate what 2018 will bring. In Matthew 21, Jesus quoted the prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah when He said, My house shall be called a house of prayer As a church, we need to discover what it means to be directed by and focused upon prayer. This is why I will begin 2018 with a sermon series studying Great Prayers of the Bible. We will learn together what it means to be people who pray and a church that prays together. We will also focus on outreach and evangelism. Remember, the world should be different because we are here. Because Second Baptist Church is here, our city should be different. Because you are here, your neighborhood should be different. Because God has

placed us here, our world should be different. I believe we can change the world from Warner Robins, Georgia. Again, I want to challenge you to find one person at work or school and one family in your neighborhood and make an impact in their lives through the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This means sharing your faith on a consistent basis, inviting them to church, and showing love in practical ways. We must be intentional about living the truth, loving others, and sharing our faith. Another word you will hear a lot this year is discipleship. I want to see our church place an emphasis on discipleship through what we will call D-Groups. These are groups where we grow together, study the Word, memorize Scripture, and hold one another accountable. I believe discipleship will be integral as we see our church grow larger and deeper at the same time. Finally, I want to encourage you to start the New Year off right by spending time with God daily and by studying His Word faithfully. Devotion books for adults and kids are available along with Bible reading plans to help you with this important discipline. There are also Sermon Series CDs and other study materials available at the Welcome Center in the Grand Lobby. All of these things are made available for your personal spiritual growth and development. I can t wait to see what God is going to do in 2018. My family and I are so blessed to be a part of Second Baptist Church. Remember, the best is yet to come! Love in Christ, Pastor Jim Victory Sports Baseball/Softball Registration for T-Ball, Baseball, and Softball have already kicked off, but it s not too late! Using literature, philosophy, real-life experiences, and the Bible, Keller and the group explore the truth of Christianity. This study will help you be able to discuss your faith and answer many of the questions that non-believers ask about Christianity. Discussion Guide $8.00. Sunday Night Men Only Class 33 - A Man and His Design - By Robert Lewis, Taught by Jim Dutcher. Begins Sunday, January 7th at 5:00 PM, Room A119. This study builds upon many of the timeless truths taught by Robert Lewis in the original Men s Fraternity curriculum but also includes new material on authentic manhood. The series is designed to inspire and equip men to pursue authentic manhood as modeled by Jesus Christ in His 33 years on earth. This study starts with meaningful insights into the current state of manhood, which will help men navigate through some realities that have created cultural confusion. It follows by unfolding God s mandates for all men and offering a clear definition of authentic manhood that will help men on their journey. Each participant will learn the four faces of manhood and how to anticipate and transition through the specific seasons of life. Workbook is $10.00. Sunday Night Women Only Class No Other Gods - By Kelly Minter, Taught by Patsy Randall on Sundays beginning January 7th at 5:00 PM, Room A108. Often, idols are obvious money, power, fame. But subtler idols can sometimes take the form of loved ones, Instagrammable interiors, and busy seasons of work, motherhood, or ministry. But if your heart is prioritizing any of those pursuits before God, you re missing the unrivaled joy and adventure of Jesus being your heart s ultimate treasure. In this revised and expanded study, learn to identify the functional gods you may be unknowingly serving and the lies they tell. As you dethrone your modern-day idols, you ll be set free for the deeper, more abundant life Jesus came to give you discovering that Jesus can do what no other god can. This study s new content reflects how God has continued to grow, teach, and encourage Kelly Minter in her unrivaled pursuit of Him. Books are $13.00. Tuesday Morning Women Only Class Mom Set Free - By Jeannie Currion. Tuesdays beginning January 9th, at 9:30 AM in Room A117. We all feel the pressure to be good enough for our kids and good enough for God when we are parenting our children. We set impossible standards that leave us bouncing between worry, fear, anger, and shame. Jeannie Currion will show us how to lay down what God has not asked us to carry, trust God and receive God s grace. Books will be available at the Welcome Center and also on the day of the study. We will be going over week 1 on January 9th. If your schedule does not allow you to complete Week 1 by January 9, come anyway; we ll talk about it in class! Childcare will be provided. Books are $10.00. Wednesday Night Women Only Class No Other Gods - By Kelly Minter, Taught by Debbie Vartenisian beginning on January 10th at 6:15 PM, Room A108. Women s Bible Studies There is no better way to begin your new year than with the discipline of TIME IN GOD S WORD! The Sunday afternoon 5:00 PM class begins January 7th and the Wednesday evening 6:00 PM class begins January 10th and will BOTH offer No Other Gods, by Kelly Minter. GRACE Tables It has been one year since we launched GRACE Tables at SBCWR. It has been our desire that meaningful, Christcentered conversations have occurred around your tables and that relationships have become deeper and more authentic. As we begin a new year, we would like to expand our tables to other ladies in our community who may need a place each month to be refreshed by genuine friendship and introduced to the greatest friend we have in Jesus. Think of that lady at work who has small children who just needs a night out each month. Think of the new member of your Life Group or someone who recently moved to town, who doesn t know anyone, and is longing to find a group of ladies with whom she can connect. Jesus sat at tables of brokenness and joy. He sat at tables filled with questions. Tables filled with doubt. Tables filled with hope. We can allow our tables to be a place where His love can shine bright. Our small invite to a meal can reveal a larger invitation, the invitation to life everlasting. In order to do this and keep our tables at 6-7 people, new tables may need to form. Maybe someone who has been at your table this past year is ready to begin one of her own. At your next gathering, have a conversation about how you can make this happen. And don t forget to let our Women s Ministry team know so we can celebrate the new tables being formed. It has been a great joy seeing how this ministry has brought women together for a simple meal and conversation. We look forward to how the Lord will use GRACE Tables in 2018. January 2018 Grace Tables Questions: 1. What have you learned about hospitality from Jesus life on this earth? 2. Do you have an intentional banner for your table? For example, do you want it to be a place of laughter? Of compassion? Of rest? 3. Why do you think Jesus ate at so many different tables with so many different people? 4. What is your hope for time spent at your table in 2018? We all feel the pressure to be good enough for our kids and good enough for God when we are parenting our children. We set impossible standards that leave us bouncing between worry, fear, anger, and shame. Jeannie Currion will show us how to lay down what God has not asked us to carry, trust God and receive God s grace in her book entitled Mom Set Free. Join us as we begin this study on Tuesday, January 9th at 9:30 AM in Room A117. This will be a six week study. Books will be available at the Welcome Center and also on the day of the study. We will be going over week one on January 9th. If your schedule does not allow you to complete this, come anyway; we ll talk about it in class! Childcare will be provided. Tasting Grace We are just plum tickled to begin our 4th year of Tasting Grace, our mentoring-in-the-kitchen ministry! Mark your calendars for 2018: January 27th, April 28th, July 28th, October 27th. We will start the year with a hearty meatloaf and delicious hash-brown casserole. Sign-up sheets will be at the Welcome Center January 7th. Anna s Banquet Our Anna s Banquet is a special time where we as a church host a dinner specifically for our widows. We want to love on you and serve you! This year our dinner will be held on Saturday, February 10th, at 4:30 PM. We will meet in the YAC Auditorium. Please sign up in your Life Group, at the Welcome Center, or through our Church Office at 478-923-7101. If you need a ride, we can pick you up and take you home! Just let us know when you sign up. Bible Reading Plan We have our 2018 Bible Reading Plans in the Grand Lobby at our Information Towers. This plan is to guide you as you read through the Bible in one year! It breaks up the Bible into manageable sections, and gives you the weekends to catch up or re-read a passage from the week. If this has been a goal of yours, there s no better time to start than now! Make sure to pick up one or download one from secondfamily.tv!

Operation Christmas Child Thank you church family for supporting Operation Christmas Child each year! Something as small as a shoebox with toiletry items and toys is changing childrens lives all across the world. This year, we collected 471 boxes! That s so great! Now, 471 children will be given hope in a dark, dismal world. When they feel as though all is lost, these shoeboxes show up and restore what was lost. This may also be the only time they feel love. We were fortunate this year to take a trip to the distribution center in Atlanta to help pack and pray over shoeboxes before they were shipped around the world. While we were there, we heard from a lady who received a box when she was a little girl and now helps with Operation Christmas Child. She lived in an orphanage and was never told she was loved. She heard there were some people bringing shoeboxes for the children with fun things inside. She really wanted some clips for her hair, but she wasn t sure she would have any in her box. When the time came to receive her box, she opened it up, and the first thing at the top of the box were hair clips. She said she was so excited! This was one of the first times she truly felt loved. And she didn t understand how someone in a different country could love her so much. Then she heard the gospel and realized it was because of Jesus. She told us her life has never been the same since she met Jesus. So we thank you again for letting us travel to Atlanta to be a small part of what God is doing around the world with a shoebox. And we encourage you, as 2018 is now beginning, go ahead and start planning to pack a shoebox! You never know the impact it can make on a child, their family, and even their village. Here are some pictures from our trip. If you are interested in joining us this year, be looking for the sign-up sheet in the fall! You will be blessed!
