Aim of the policy The purpose of our school is to develop young people who are: 1. confident about their identity 2. good, moral and ethical citizens able to distinguish between right and wrong 3. respectful of the civil and the criminal law 4. able to appreciate the fundamental British values and see how it applies to their lives as a British citizen 5. able to use the British democratic systems and process to bring about a positive change to the local, national and at an International level Our Values We as a school wish to develop the following key values amongst our students along with the fundamental British values of democracy, individual liberty, the rule of law and mutual respect & tolerance. Empathy allowing our students to care for the other irrespective of their background and be driven to support and reflect about others when in need Respect for humanity life is precious. Promoting the value of life irrespective of faith and no faith is equally valuable Justice enabling our students to recognize that justice is the key principle in promoting fairness and equality at all levels in life. We actively promote the Equality Act 2010 and teach our students to be tolerant of all protected characteristics and all differences. Transparency enabling our students to recognize that any action must be carried out with utmost openness to build trust and honesty How do we promote these values? We as a school will use the following strategies to promote these values: 1. Always maintain high expectation challenging lack of attitude, poor behaviour and academic performance 2. Consistent behaviour management students and teachers are clear about what is good and bad behaviour and how it affects a person s character 3. Cross Curriculum: The British values & the other school values are actively promoted throughout the curriculum. 4. Outstanding teaching and learning supporting teachers to deliver outstanding lessons allowing the students to discuss, debate and dialogue issues to arrive at a balanced and considered decision 5. Extra - curricular activities - Through extra-curriculum clubs, drop dawn days, visits etc.

Introduction: The purpose of our school is to set the foundation for the building of an Islamic personality, to provide students with the highest standards of education which will enable them to develop their selfknowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence, to distinguish right from wrong, instill the love of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the hearts of the pupils and to respect the law, to encourage pupils to accept responsibility for their behavior, show initiative and understanding how they can contribute to community life, to provide them with a broad general knowledge of public institutions and services and assist pupils to acquire and appreciation of and respect for their own and other cultures in a way that promotes understanding and harmony between different cultural traditions which will help them to become responsible and productive citizens who will confidently meet the challenges of the future. Islamic Etiquettes: The whole purpose behind Darul Hadis Latifiah School is to provide an environment in which pupils can achieve educational success. The most important factor of this success would be to promote the understanding of Islam in each child and its implementation of Islam in their daily lives. To this effect the school implements practical reminders and issues instructions for manners and behavior as situations arise. Tutor periods, classes, assemblies and dining times are designed to maximize the emphasis of Islam. Our core objectives: We aim to develop knowledge, skills, attitudes and values which enable our children to participate with increasing independence as valued members of the community. Through the provision of a safe and nurturing, yet stimulating and challenging environment, within a framework of high expectation, equal opportunity and team commitment, which recognizes and welcomes effective partnership with parents and values increasing inclusion. Pupils are educated within a framework of high expectation which facilitates and celebrates achievement, and which values partnership with parents. The school has a positive ethos which has its foundation in mutual respect, collaborative decision making and effective teamwork. To offer students Islamic teachings and practices to support them to develop mindfulness, discipline, wisdom and compassion (by instilling the love of Rasulullah (PBUH) in the hearts and minds of pupils by celebrating His (PBUH) birth, His way of life, His teachings and also by following the way of life of His companions (R.A.) and the Saints of Allah (SWT) who are the true followers of Rasulullah (PBUH). To provide a sound conventional academic education that is informed by the National Curriculum and the school s own Curriculum.

To provide an environment where love of learning is encouraged and students are helped to establish a positive approach to learning, discipline and life. To foster self esteem and social skills so that students are confident and are able to form respectful relationships with both their peers and adults. To explore the potential of every child that attends the school. Encourage pupils to stay on after GCSE exam to complete the Degree in Islamic Theology. We would like our students to leave our school with a good heart, sound ethical values and a sense of responsibility combined with the academic and social skills that enable them to make a successful transition into higher or further education. We hope our students will go on to act in ways that benefit themselves, their community, society and the world at large. Islam and education - our approach in practice: The Darul Hadis Latifiah School fosters an approach to education that promotes the development of compassion, knowledge, wisdom and communal responsibility. Students are guided to an understanding of themselves and others and life s lessons through experiences and insights into the teachings of Islam. The Islamic ethos is integrated into classroom work and these are some of the ways this is achieved: Regular Salah practice to familiarize students with their religious activities. Discussion and reflection on Islamic teachings, such as cause and effect, Interdependence and impermanence, to help students develop their understanding of the way things are. The teaching of basic Islamic principles, such as the five pillars, so that students develop understanding of how to live wholesome live. Presenting various teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) such as Hadis and Sunnah. Also teach the love of The Holy Prophet (PBUH) and how to love the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and follow his way of life. We follow and teach the celebrations of MILAD-UN-NABI- the Holy Birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Teach and practice to respect parents, teachers, elders and all members of the community. Teach and practice Dua (supplication) after the Salah. Teach Islam in a modest way so no one take any extreme path to solve their problem. Teach the understanding and practice of Ahlussunnah Wal Jamaah (Fultali Maslak) by following the way of life of the founder of the school Hadrat Allamah Abdul Latif Chowdhury (Sahab Qibla Fultali) R.A. Introducing Islamic teachers and followers (such as Ulamas, Pir Mashaikh and committed followers) to the school and its community, so that Islamic lifestyles are seen and opportunities are provided for interaction with the visitors for the students and the school community. Introducing students to physical exercise to maintain good physical health.

Promoting positive qualities and ethical values by studying appropriate stories, biographies and mythologies as well as exploring themes in role play. School afternoon and Jumah Salah: The daily afternoon Salah and Jumuah are an important event that contributes to the sense of community and establishes the tone of the school. In Islam the word Salah means worshipping Allah (SWT). The pupils learn the importance of Salah and spiritual aspect of Salah which links us with Allah (SWT). Meditation in Salah and Zikir-remembrance of Allah (SWT) from time to time and after afternoon Salah. Activity role plays, poems, stories, nasheed/songs, speech, Islamic art or some aspect of children s work Chanting- nasheed singing and performing Milad-Un-Nabi (PBUH). School newsletter. Talks from the teachers which generally focus on a P.S.H.E. (personal, social and health education) or Islamic theme often related to an issue in the school or classroom, such as respect for others, taking responsibility for your own thoughts, feelings or actions, self reflection, change, dealing with difficulties or caring for others. Promoting mindfulness in thinking and action: One of the main aims of the School is to promote discipline and mindfulness. It is through discipline and mindfulness that students learn to behave ethically, to show respect and compassion to other beings and to develop the qualities of patience and honesty. To help children develop these qualities we endeavour to create an environment within the school in which: Each student feels secure, happy and free to express themselves naturally without fear of recrimination or punishment but respectfully. All members of staff, teaching and non-teaching, display the qualities we wish the students to express. Students are helped to overcome unhealthy mind states that interfere with mindful action. All situations are seen as opportunities to practice and promote mindfulness and discipline, it is understood as a quality students need to develop in the form of self-discipline. Self-discipline is promoted by helping students understand how all members of the school community depend on each other and that by considering others they will receive consideration in return. When a student s behaviour indicates anxiety or fear in any of their forms and becomes disruptive or offensive to others, teachers are expected to investigate the likely source of the student s disturbance as outlined in the school s anti-bullying policy and discipline policy.

The school community: The general culture and atmosphere in the school creates a background against which all learning takes place. In this sense the whole school community acts like a family: a community committed to upholding the school s values through individual practice and example. A strong emphasis is placed on establishing a sense of community through events that promote common understanding in the context of Islamic ethos, such as daily Salah, festival days and school events. These are key parts of the life of the school, and on these occasions staff and students work closely together on presentations that reflect the work of the classes and the school s aims. The Five precepts for our School and Community: I will lead an Islamic way of life in the school and else where. I will not intentionally harm people or any part of our school environment, caring for them in a way I would like to be cared for myself or looking after the school in a way I would like my own belongings to be looked after. I will not take things that belong to others, remember to ask when borrowing, and try to share when appropriate. I will try to be caring towards my friends and be respectful at all times even to those who are not my friends. I will say things that are honest and truthful, and be mindful in my speech and voice. I will try to keep my body fit and healthy and my mind calm and clear by following (Sunnah) that which brings health and happiness. Islamic understanding applied to standard subjects: Islamic knowledge and understanding provides a framework while other subjects are studied and interpreted. For example, we recognize the consequential nature of actions when teaching humanities and science, and this helps students to develop awareness of ethics and global responsibility.
