Allen Avenue Christian Reformed Church March 12 th, 2017 Jesus > Angels Hebrews 1:5-2:4 (NIV) 5 For to which of the angels did God ever say, You are my Son; today I have become your Father? Or again, I will be his Father, and he will be my Son? 6 And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, Let all God s angels worship him. 7 In speaking of the angels he says, He makes his angels spirits, and his servants flames of fire. 8 But about the Son he says, Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. 9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy. 10 He also says, In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. 11 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. 12 You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed. But you remain the same, and your years will never end. 13 To which of the angels did God ever say, Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet? 14 Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation? 2 We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. 2 For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, 3 how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. 4 God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
Prelude Welcome and Announcements Deanna VanderPloeg Invitation to Quiet Call To Worship Leader: Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. People: We worship you, Lord. Leader: For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. People: We worship you, Lord. Leader: Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. People: Let us turn our eyes to Jesus and worship him. Assurance of Pardon and Call To Confession Leader: When we confess our sins, we do so in recognition that Jesus has already sacrificed and made forgiveness available to us. Hebrews 4 says, People: Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Leader: In confidence of God s mercy and grace, let us confess our sins together.
Call to Holy Living Leader: Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus... let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
