In much of the world, Satan is a joke, or myth and to be forgotten in more mature religious thought. People think of him like this picture:

And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.

Satan cannot do everything he wants to do Limited by God's power Job 1:7-12, And the Lord said to Satan, From where do you come? So Satan answered the Lord and said, From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it. 8 Then the Lord said to Satan, Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? 9 So Satan answered the Lord and said, Does Job fear God for nothing? 10 Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. 11 But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face! 12 And the Lord said to Satan, Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not lay a hand on his person. 1

Satan needs to take permission from the Lord to do anything with the people of God. Job 2:4-6, So Satan answered the Lord and said, Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life. 5 But stretch out Your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, 6 and he will surely curse You to Your face! And the Lord said to Satan, Behold, he is in your hand, but spare his life. Satan accused Job of being godly only because God blessed him. Satan then suggested that God let him touch Job. The first time God only let Satan take Job's possessions away, including his children. The second time God allowed Satan to cause physical suffering to Job, but limited it to not include death. Satan by nature he wants to murder people and separate them from God but God limits him. Also God will never let you to go through beyond you can bear. When you go through God gives you escape route and strength to go through. 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you 2

are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. Just before going to the cross Jesus told to Peter about the test he is going to go through. Luke 22:31-32, And the Lord said, Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren. Remember Jesus praying for you and me!! 2. Can Satan repent and be saved? Jesus did not die on the cross for Satan. Angels had one opportunity in the past to choose to glorify God or to rebel. Once the choice was made, their destiny is fixed. 2 Peter 2:4, For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; Jude 1:6, And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day; 3

Revelation 20:2-3, He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; 3 and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while. After the millennial reign of Christ Satan will be let free for a little while. Satan had one chance to go straight, he rejected it, and he is damned forever. 3. Satan cannot tell what the God is doing until it happens John 3:8, The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit. You cannot tell. Neither can Satan. Satan has no ability to read minds and know what God is doing. God withholds information about what He is doing but He does to reveal to His children when they need them or when He is about to do something. Isaiah 55:7-13, In the bible nowhere it mentioned that Satan has some secrets which he is holding back. God only reveals to His 4

children and Prophets who believe and put their trust in God and obeying Him. Amos 3:7, Surely the Lord God does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets. Another clear example is sending Christ to cross. 1 Corinthians 2:7-8, But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, 8 which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. This shows very clearly that if Satan knew he would not have send Jesus to cross. 4. Satan cannot understand the teachings of Scripture 1 Corinthians 2:9-11, But as it is written: Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him. 10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 5

"Deep things," that is, spiritual truth, is revealed only by the Holy Spirit. The spirit of God reveals to the children of God who are filled with His Spirit. God also reveals the secret things to His children who will act upon them. Why would God reveal to someone if he/she is not going to act upon them? Psalms 18:28, For You will light my lamp; The Lord my God will enlighten my darkness. Psalms 119:105, Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. The Psalmist is walking with God and God gives him light. Satan does not walk with God, so he does not understand revelation. John 5:37-40, And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form. 38 But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe. 39 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. 40 But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life. The Pharisees and Sadducees were diligent to search the scriptures, and they thought that they will get eternal 6

life through them. But they never understood what they read. Jesus did tell them in verse 44 that they were of their father the devil. So, since Satan would not repent, indeed, cannot repent, anything he gets from the Word of God is used out of context to tempt the saints to sin and worship Satan. 5. Satan cannot force you to sin Many so called Christians claim this statement that Satan made me to sin, which is not true at all. Adam did that when God asked him why he ate the forbidden fruit. God speaks to Adam. Adam blames Eve. Genesis 3:11-12, And He said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat? 12 Then the man said, The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate. Then Eve blamed the devil later. Genesis 3:13, And the Lord God said to the woman, What is this you have done? 7

God did not accept that alibi. Both Adam and Eve were held totally responsible for their sin and were driven out of the Garden of Eden. So, Satan cannot MAKE you sin. Stop being the children of Adam!! 6. Satan cannot possess you if you are a born again Bible believer When Jesus was in Judea and Galilee traveling about, He confronted many devils. Scriptures clearly states that He casts out ALL devils HE confronted. We need to understand that this war is nonstop until Christ returns. But, we hear people talk about being "possessed of devils." These people make a heretical mistake by failing to use the correct pronoun in that statement. Here are several examples. Notice please the pronoun "with" instead of the modern error "of": Matthew 4:24, Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them. Christians are indwelt by the Holy Spirit. 8

Romans 8:9-11, But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. 1 Corinthians 3:16, Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 1 Corinthians 6:19, Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? Surely the Holy Spirit would not allow a demon to possess the same person He is indwelling. It is unthinkable that God would allow one of His children, whom He purchased with the blood of Christ (1 Peter 1:18-19) and made into a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), to be possessed and controlled by a demon. Is there a solution? Answer: Yes, 9

1 John 5:18, We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him James 4:7, Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. As you draw near to God, God draws near to you. Satan, or his devils are displaced. Stop talking to devils, and talk to God. If you feel your need help in dealing with devils, find a brother in Christ who has a very close walk with Christ. Ask him to pray and draw near to God with you. 7. Satan cannot read the Bible believer's mind No angel or demon has ever been described in Scripture with mind reading abilities. The encounters between God and Satan in the beginning chapters of the book of Job strongly indicate that Satan cannot read the thoughts and minds of humans. If Satan had known the mind and heart of Job, he'd have known that Job would never curse God. Satan is not omnipresent he cannot be in more than one place at a time. Only God is everywhere, and only God knows everything, 10

1 Kings 8:39, then hear in heaven Your dwelling place, and forgive, and act, and give to everyone according to all his ways, whose heart You know (for You alone know the hearts of all the sons of men) Hebrews 4:12, For the word of God Is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. God is the only one that can search the hearts of believers. This is talking about being known by God. Satan does not know us, nor can he reveal to us anything we need to know about ourselves. Psalms 139:4 & 23-24, For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether. 23. Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting. David did not trust his own discernment, and there is no Bible teaching that anyone else can, except God himself. 11

Psalms 100:3, Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. 8. Satan cannot take your salvation away John 10:27-30, 27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father s hand. 30 I and My Father are one. It is unanimous in the Godhead. God is greater than all (including Satan), and Jesus and God are determined that you will never be taken from their hands. To tell a believer that Satan can cause them to lose their salvation is blasphemy. Ephesians 1:7, 13-14, 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace 13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of 12

promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. Our salvation rests neither upon our works, nor upon our feelings much less upon our own resistance of Satan's power. God Himself has sealed our salvation with an oath concerning His Son, our Saviour. Romans 8:31, What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 9. Satan cannot send you to hell Matthew 10:27-29, Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops. 28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father s will. Only God sends anyone to hell. 2 Peter 2:9, then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the Day of Judgment. 13

Matthew 25:41, Then He will also say to those on the left hand, Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: Hebrews 4:13, And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. A judge must have jurisdiction to hear a case. An British judge cannot go to India and hold court in Mumbai just because he is determined to bring justice to India. He does not have jurisdiction in India. Thus, Satan is not the judge. He cannot hold court and condemn anyone, not even rank sinners. All judgment is given to Jesus Christ. 2 Timothy 4:1, I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Christ is appointed as the one and only supreme court justice of the universe. He has no intention of letting Satan climb into the seat of judgment. Relax, and rest in Jesus. Revelation 12:7-11, And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, 8 but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any 14

longer. 9 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. 10. Satan's defeat and final end is recorded in the Word of God: On Calvary Jesus through His death defeated Satan, the prince of this world. Hebrews2:14-15, Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. Revelation 20:7-10, Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison 8 and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. 9 They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them. 10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast 15

and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. Satan does not share your destiny if you are born again. He will never be saved or repent. Jesus died for the sins of the world, not the universe, and not the fallen angels. While we may feel some pity for a being that was at such a glorious beginning in heaven, which rebelled and was cast out of heaven on his way to the lake of fire, nevertheless; there is no worthy emotion that you need to waste on Satan. 16
