ROSE OF LIMA PARISH Page 3 Second Sunday of Advent NEWS OF COMFORT In a time of preparation, much of it having to do with material things, it is good to hear the words of Isaiah, Comfort, give comfort to my people, / says your God (Isaiah 40:1). In a time of such stress and rush, when our usual burdens are augmented by piles of Christmas preparations, we can choose to slow down, take some time to heal, and appreciate the enormous gift we are about to receive. Christ, the Son of God, has become one of us, and knows our human limitations. Yet God, even now, is freeing us from the burdens that our inattentiveness to our God and to our deepest inner longings have heaped upon us. The Lord comes, not as a king with mighty armies, but as a shepherd leading the flocks with care and tenderness. Isaiah prophesies good news: our oppression is over, our sins forgiven. The savior we have awaited is coming, not the first time, but in the end times, as our salvation. FILIPINO SIMBANG GABI The Filipino-American Community of St. Rose of Lima Parish will celebrate the eight day of Simbang Gabi (Advent Novena of Masses) on December 22, 2017 at 7:30PM here at St. Rose of Lima Church. Celebrant for this mass will be our Pastor, Fr. George and concelebrated by Fr. Alfredo Rolon, Parochial Vicar. Please join us in celebrating this time-honored religious tradition as a spiritual preparation for the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Fellowship will follow in the auditorium after the mass. Recommended gifts are noted on the tree decorations. The tree will remain up until December 17th. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Saint Rose of Lima s 8 th grade Girl Scout Troop 415 is collecting new, non-violent, unwrapped toys for the needy families of our parish. Please donate toys for all ages. Do keep the older children in mind when making your selection. You may place your donation in the box labeled Toy Drive Box located at the back of the church. The Toy Drive will run from November 28 th through December 19 th. We truly appreciate your generosity! This event is a huge undertaking and requires 5,000 man hours to make it a success. In addition to time, monetary donations and donated items are also major contributors.
