The Worship of God Chapel January 20, 2019 8:30 am Opening Voluntary??????... Louis-Claude Daquin Welcome and Announcements Call to Worship In our resting, God is there. God of sleep, be our rest. In our waking, God is there. God of sunlight, be our energy. In our working, God is there. God of good works, be our inspiration. In our worship, God is there. God of righteousness, be our sanctuary. Opening Prayer The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. Even as the dreams of the night may inspire or frighten us, so too the movement of Your Spirit, O God, can cause us to dance or to hesitate in fear. Forgive us for the ways we have been afraid of Your dreams, for ourselves, for our families, for our church and teach us to embrace with joy and hope the good plans you have for us, to prosper and not to harm us. Amen. Welcome! Thank you for worshiping with us this morning! Please take a moment to sign the attendance notebooks during the announcements. If this is your first time, please leave your contact information and a pastor will contact you this week with more information about our church. Offertory Welcome, Precious Infant Lord...Carl Schalk Andrea Tulipana, Allison Chickering, Steven Davis, Phillip Leach, Wesley Singers Welcome, precious infant Lord, so restless in the manger. All is quiet in the night, no cause for you to weep. Soon your eyes will seek the lost one and invite the stranger. Close your heavy eyelids now and gently drift to sleep. Now the sounds upon your lips are cries of helpless pleading; soon your mouth will speak the words of God s anointed Son. Let your cries for now be silent, now no interceding. Time will bring the dying groan, the breath of victory won. Safe you lie in swaddling clothes, yet bristling hay encroaches, sharp and rough against your foot, no comfort to your bed. Now you kick against the darkness, but the day approaches when your scarred and wounded heel will crush the serpent s head. Jesus, that your little hand might reach to me in blessing! Soon your touch will heal the lame and give the blind their sight. Let your hands instead be still, no work today addressing. Hold me rather in your heart and sleep this holy night. Jesus, Jesus rest your head, you have got a manger bed. Have you heard about our Jesus? Have you heard about his fate? How his mother went to that stable on that Christmas Eve so late? Winds were blowing, cows were lowing, stars were glowing. Refrain. To that manger came then wise men, bringing things from hin and yon, for the mother and the father and the blessed little Son. Milkmaids left their fields and flocks and sat beside the ass and ox. Refrain. Welcome! Thank you for worshiping with us this morning! We hope to do this again in Plumtree, NC and take more families along in observance for the fun! We also of hope to continue our focus on families this year through programs like Merge and other Mission opportunities. The secret of CHANGE is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new - Socrates Thanks & Praise...to the Chancel Choir and Wesley Singers for excellent attendance and work at last Saturday s choir retreat....to Stephen Ministry Leader Mike Flack for coordinating Stephen Ministry Training over the past six months. Nine students from multiple churches completed the training last week!...to all who participated in the recent Angel Tree Christmas Program. Through phone calls to the families, party planning and participation, gift purchasing and delivery, many of you volunteered your time, effort, and resources to make this year s program a great success. Overall, 84 children were provided gifts and more importantly, reminded that their incarcerated parents are still very much involved in their lives. Your ongoing support for this outreach has blessed these families in so many ways, and will always be greatly appreciated. Sympathies to the Reverend Jill Auman and family upon the death of her father, Jack Lindsey, on January 14, 2019.
