Dona nobis pacem. Grant us peace. 11:00 Chancel Choir MUSIC IN WORSHIP The anthem (11:00), How Can I Keep from Singing, is a 2002 arrangement of a hymn written in 1869 by the Baptist preacher and hymn writer Robert Lowry. Lowry also composed Shall We Gather at the River. How Can I Keep from Singing was recorded by Pete Seeger in the 1960s during the folk revival. The hymn gained a new audience in the 1990s when Irish musician Enya released a recording of it on her album Shepherd Moons. Today s arrangement was composed by Eric Nelson, who serves as Director of Choral Studies at Emory University, Atlanta, and as Artistic Director of the Atlanta Master Chorale, a 45-voice chamber choir that specializes in a cappella repertoire. Near the beginning and end of the piece, snippets of the hymn O For a Thousand Tongues to sing may be heard. The hymn after the sermon, They Asked, Who s My Neighbor, was written by Ruth Jan Wesson in 1982. It is a narrative hymn, especially appealing and educational for children. The first three stanzas tell the story of the Good Samaritan, found in today s Luke passage. The fourth stanza presents the moral behind Jesus story.
