TRESTLEBOARD Boyleston Masonic Lodge No. 123 A.F.M. 1030 Dutch Fork Rd Ballentine, South Carolina 29064 www.boylestonlodge.com APRIL 2018 Hey Brothers! It is so hard to believe that it is already Spring. It feels like 2018 is on fast forward. We hope that everyone had a nice Easter with family and friends. There is not a whole lot to report this month, but we do have a decent amount of work to do. On Thursday, April 5, 2018 we held our regular business meeting at normal time. We had a great meal prepared by Albert Stoudemire, O Neil Bickley, Joe Russo, Jud Close and Bill Bouknight. A special thanks to our cooks who prepared and served fired pork chops, rice and gravy, peas, salad, cupcakes, and ice cream. During the meeting, we discussed correspondence received during March, read the applications for four (4) new petitions for membership, one (1) petition for affiliation, and one (1) petition for reinstatement. We voted on two (2) petitions for Entered Apprentice Mason Degrees, two (2) petitions for Fellow Craft, and one (1) affiliation. Investigation committees were appointed for each of the new petitions and the affiliation and reinstatement. Brother, Cameron McClive presented another wonderful Masonic Education lesson this month. Brother Cameron educated us on the Patron Saints of Freemasonry we regularly reference in our work and lectures. Last month we reported on the changes taking place around the Lodge. This month we want to acknowledge the Building and Grounds Committee, and all the hard-working men who have dedicated their time, their sweat equity, and resources. The Committee has not only recently transformed the dining hall to recognize affiliated Past Masters, they have also freshened up the walls by painting them with a fresh coat of paint.

As many of you may already know, the lot adjacent to our property has been cleared and prepared for a new building. The Lodge recently received a letter from the Developer requesting that Boyleston Lodge No. 123 and the proposed business share an access driveway to service both properties. The Developer disclosed that SCDOT denied the Developer s plans for a site-specific access driveway for the proposed business. SCDOT advised the Developer that the proposed business was approved for a right turn in and right turn out type of access driveway only, unless they were to share a driveway with a neighboring property. The Developer was therefore making a formal request to allow the Developer to submit a plan to SCDOT illustrating a shared access driveway between Boyleston Lodge No. 123 and the proposed business. A vote of members present was taken and the members of Boyleston Lodge No. 123 wish to deny the Developer s request. A response to the Developer will be prepared and mailed by our Secretary. If anyone wishes for further information on this matter, please contact Bill Bouknight directly. Junior Warden, Jud Close reported that the first chicken bar-b-que fundraiser of the year held on March 3, 2018 collected $4,800.00 in profit for the Lodge. This money is critical for supporting our operating costs and keeping our dues affordable. Looking forward to our next bar-b-que fundraiser, a call to all Brothers was made to help with the wood cutting and loading of the BBQ pits scheduled for April 28, 2018. Breakfast will be served at the Lodge starting at 7:00AM. During our February business meeting a motion to sponsor an Irmo Little League Baseball team was made. The motion passed, and Boyleston Lodge No. 123 provided monetary sponsorship for one randomly selected team for the Spring 2018 season. The young boys of the Boyleston baseball team now proudly wear matching jerseys adorned with the Boyleston Lodge No. 123 name. WB Ron Lockaby has proposed that the Lodge consider inviting the players, parents, coaches, family, and friends to our Lodge for a Hamburger and Hot Dog dinner at the end of the season. Lastly, the Lodge has scheduled another group outing to a Columbia Firefly s baseball game. The Boyleston Lodge No. 123 Game Night will be June 9, 2018 at 6:05PM. If interested, please contact WB Ron Lockaby directly at rlockaby13@gmail.com prior to the end of April. Tickets will be $10 per person and you are urged to invite your loved ones, family, and friends. DID YOU KNOW? The frontiers of Masonry, the frontiers of the spirit, are only bounded by the limitations we place on them. Within this Fraternity we call Freemasonry are untold and undiscovered beauties of art, the mind and spirit, waiting to reward us just for the search. True, they are hidden but only form those who fail to look behind the range. Reference: L.L. Williams, Trestleboard Tidbits The Nature of Freemasonry. Silver Spring, Maryland: The Masonic Service Association For all Fellowcrafts aye, for all Freemason corn, wine, and oil are symbols of sacrifice, of the fruits of labor, of wages earned.
