2007-2017 OFFICIAL 2017 DDWD Merry END OF SEASON NEWSLETTER Miracle #28 DOUBLE ISSUE MAYHEM

In the fifth installment of this glorious saga, known as The Battle for Christmas it was the forces of good that triumphed over evil and Christmas was saved. In what was a genuine revenge game for the Thursday night debacle in Atlanta in Week 14; the Boyz N Black & Gold were hungry for that victory and so was all of Who Dat Nation. In a show of force at The Dome nothing seemed to be able to stop the Dennis Allen-D and when the Fail-cons had a 4 th and 1 situation, with one of them being at the goal-line, both times the Black & Gold prevailed in stopping them. A Saints Team I called the Super Squad was the last team to win the South (2011) and now the Boyz N Black & Gold seemed destined to do it all over again after beating the Dirty Birds and doing so in miracle fashion. Let me explain. During the first possession by the Saints we all witnessed Drew Brees becoming just the third quarterback in League history to throw for 70,000 yards. We also witnessed the first Saint to ever have over 189 catches in the first 2 seasons of a career and that number would surpass 190 after Week 17 and there was another miracle on the sidelines during the battle as well.

THE SAINTSGUY S PROCLAMATION: For those of you that can t recall a game like the one on last Sunday, and yes, I m speaking to you, the media, again, I ve put together this montage of miracles below as a refresher course. 2006 The Rebirth (vs Atlanta during The Dome-Coming )

2007 Deuce s Run (vs Philly in 2 nd Round of the Playoffs) 2009 Greatest Comeback in Franchise History (vs Miami in Week 6) 2009 The Meachem Miracle (vs Washington in Week 13)

2010 The Porter Pick (vs Minnesota in the NFC Title Game) 2010 Ambush (vs Indi in the Super Bowl) 2011 Blowout at The Dome 2 (vs Indi, in the highest scoring game in Saints history)

2011 Breaking Marino (vs Atlanta during the original Battle for Christmas on MNF) 2014 The Road Win (vs Philadelphia in 1 st Round of the Playoffs) 2015 The Shootout (vs Eli & the G-Men in Week 8)

And this season, we ve witnessed, both, The Kamara Catch. And now, we ve seen The Christmas Catch. Dat s Real Saints, Makin Miracles Happen! The SaintsGuy

HOLIDAY HOODWINK D T he Saints won the coin toss and elected to defer, and the Bucs would start things out with an impressive drive on offense. Two near picks by Manti Te o and Ken Crawley could have got the defense off the field, but ended up getting a one-yard Peyton Barber touchdown on a 14-play, 75-yard drive. It was extremely short-lived, as Alvin Kamara took the ensuing kickoff 106 yards to the house. That was a franchise record, by the way. The Bucs were on the move to try to respond, but it ended poorly, as Jameis Winston found Marcus Williams for a Saints interception. The Saints would capitalize, going on a 6-play, 65-yard drive that was capped off by another Alvin Kamara touchdown, this time from 7 yards out via a rush. The Bucs offense would tie things up after going on a 12-play, 75-yard drive. Jameis Jughead Winston would punch it in on 3rd and Goal thanks to a second effort, but Patrick Murray s extra point would be no good. Tampa Bay was 9-of-10 on 3rd Down with 5:50 to play in the 1 st Half. Now, earlier this season, I must say, that I made the comment about probably being guilty about drinking too much of the kool-aid, even after an 0-2 start, but did I believe that we would enter into this past Sunday s game against Tampa, thinking, of course we ll win this and seal the deal to win the division crown? Of course I did. I ve been drinking that juice ALL season long.

On the next Saints possession, Michael Thomas would make some franchise history, notching his 100th catch to surpass Jimmy Graham s 2011 record (99). Sean Payton called some 4th Down trickery, but it would fail and end with Wil Lutz getting ran over by Kwon Alexander. It didn t hurt the Saints, as Craig Robertson would pick off Jughead Winston just a couple of plays later. Unfortunately, they just ended up going three-and-out as the Aerial Assault seemed to be stumbling after putting up the first 2 touchdowns as the Saints entered halftime up 14-13. After stalling out on their first offensive possession of the second half, the Bucs started to move down the field after being pinned at their own 10-yard line. Poor execution and a busted coverage led to some pass plays which ended when Jughead Winston threw into quadruple coverage trying to hit Mike Evans but Marcus Williams came up with his second interception of the day. The Aerial Assault would finally help get some more points on the board, going on a 9-play, 50-yard drive that ended with a Lutz 48-yard field goal to extend the lead to 17-13. On the drive, a 40-yard connection from Brees to Kamara helped the Saints backfield duo of Kamara and Mark Ingram become the first tandem to each amass over 1,500 yards from scrimmage. In the 4 th Qtr the Bucs got an early touchdown to take the lead 20-17 after Tommylee Lewis went backwards and fumbled the punt return to the Bucs. The Saints would get pinned deep inside their own territory to start at their own 8-yard line, but would rattle off a 13-play, 92-yard drive to take a 24-20 lead when Brees connected with another weapon on a 2 nd and Goal play. The Bucs would counter with a Patrick Murray field goal to bring the score to 24-23 with 4:31 left in the game. The Saints had a decent looking drive going to finish, but some mistakes and a

Brees sack gave the ball back to the Bucs right at the 2-minute warning. They d convert a 4th and 10 deep in their own end zone, and end up losing after Winston found Chris Godwin with 15 seconds to play. Cornerback Marshon Lattimore played well in a physical rematch with Mike Evans, but the Saints never were able to find answers for Bucs wide outs Adam Humphries and Chris Godwin, who combined for 14 catches, 213 yards and the game winning score to Godwin. New Orleans again had a difficult time stopping the run, allowing Peyton Barber 71 yards on 17 rush attempts, and not able to contain Winston on some key scrambles. Offensively, the Saints were unable to open up their lead during the game against a low ranked Buccaneers defense. Their third down conversion rate (6 of 12) was improved, but the Aerial Assault still failed to convert at key moments. Rookie running back Alvin Kamara again starred, producing 138 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown, and returning a 1st quarter kickoff 106 yards for a touchdown, a franchise record. Even in a Saints loss, there were still plenty of positive statistical outcomes from the game. Drew Brees was able to break Sam Bradford s record for completion percentage that was set in 2016 (a record Bradford set by beating a previous mark held by Brees). Michael Thomas was able to become the first Saints receivers to finish with 100 catches. Cam Jordan set a career best singleseason sack total and Alvin Kamara joined incredible company after returning the Saints opening kickoff for a TD early in the game!

Aside from Cam Jordan; the rest of the Saints defensive line had trouble putting pressure on Jameis Winston in spite of the fact that Cam was consistently drawing double-teams and even triple-teams on that final Tampa drive in the 4 th Qtr. This led to the Bucs converting nearly every third down they faced with Jughead Winston having plenty of time to scan the field and find an open receiver. ON A SIDE NOTE: I thought it seemed rather suspicious that the Bucs, whom we were doing just enough to beat, the entire game, were able to pull off that highly improbable last touchdown (and 2pt conversion) against a defense that held them to 4th-and-10 inside their own 5yd line, right after it was clear the Falcons had sealed Carolina s fate? And then, do the Saints try to win at the end, or just pad Michael Thomas s reception record (and Drew s completion percentage, among other pass stats) with a gimmie-play to the sideline that had no chance of accomplishing anything else. Maybe even just before 4th and 10. Everything which came before the Bucs last drive was just the Saints running low-key plays because until the Kittens actually lost, the Saints absolutely 100% needed to win that game and didn t seem like that s what they were intending to do, when Cam Jordan is getting, both, double and triple-blocked on plays and there s no pass rush at all. If the Kittens had won their game then "Sunday" would have been a complete disaster. The presumed outcome of that game wasn t known until just before that last drive by the Bucs. So now, I choose to believe that the Master-Playcaller was scheming more for the playoffs, giving other teams looks on film that he will manipulate to our advantage in the weeks to come. He did just enough to keep the game within our control, while the Kittens still had a chance. And he managed the most important goal of.avoiding injuries. ON ANOTHER NOTE: Bucs coach Dirk Koetter went to midfield after Sunday's win against the Saints expecting the usual handshake and "best of luck" with Coach Payton, however, an awkward exchange ensued, with Payton still upset about Bucs receiver Mike Evans' blindsiding of Marshon Lattimore in the teams' first meeting on November 5th. "Here's the thing. I got pissed in the last game," Payton is heard telling Koetter, who responds by saying "I couldn't see it," talking about Evans' hit near the Bucs sideline, which he had called "totally unacceptable" the day after the hit. Payton pulled away as Koetter explained, and Koetter continued, saying "Sean, if I would have seen it," but Payton walked away, leaving Koetter to shake his head in surprise.

FAN-OF-THE-WEEK Congratulations to Nathan the Fan for being our FAN-OF-THE-WEEK when we battled against Capt. Crazy & the Bucs this past Sunday!! This Who-Dat showed up for gameday with all his fandom and not only won a prize in the Halftime-Raffle but also participated in ALL our chants while cheering for our Boyz N Black & Gold the whole game! And when he thought it might change the outcome of the game, this supersticious Who-Dat took off his jersey and wore it inside-out! For his efforts, he ll get some free beads and consideration for being a nominee for FOTS 2017!! That s amazing! You re a great fan! Start Fast and Finish Strong!

Coming into Week 16; I proclaimed that a victory for our Boyz N Black & Gold on Christmas Eve would prove again, that it s Real Saints, Makin Miracles Happen and it ended up being a night of miracle mayhem, but in the big picture of things, something even more amazing occurred when the Saints failed to win their season finale against the Bucs, and yet, still clinched the division title because the Fail-cons beat the Panthers, and now, all three teams are in the Post-Season!! How did that happen?!! That is a great question. How did that happen? First of all, the match involved in this had the Saints winning the division straight-up without any help if they just won-out their last three games (Jets, Falcons and Bucs) because they had already beaten the Panthers twice and both teams had the same record. Well, with a victory over the Jets, followed by another one on Christmas Weekend, now the Saints only needed to beat Tampa. But wait, the Panthers also won their two previous games, which now meant, that a Saints loss to Tampa on New Year s Eve that the Panthers could steal away the division crown by beating Atlanta! And we ve seen the Kittens steal stuff before in years past, so this had me worried. However, in the end, Cam the Sham choked on the day and Atlanta won, which meant that the Saints loss affected nothing, accept that, now the Falcons were also going to be in the playoffs this year too! Next week, the Panthers come back to The Dome to face New Orleans for the third time this season in the Wild Card Round of the Post-Season and the Dirty Birds will go to LA to try to stop Goff & Gurley.

EVIL FRANCHISE UPDATE: Of the 8 Evil Franchises; half of them made the playoffs this season. The Bears (5-11) and 49ers (5-11) finished at the bottom of their divisions, while the Sleazy Seabirds and Jerry s Kids finished with 9-7 records, leaving us all with comments about how their America s Team and are still going to win it all. The Northern Dirty Birds 13-3 The Brady Bunch 13-3 The Karolina Kittens 11-5 The Dirty Birds 10-6 The Sleazy Seabirds 9-7 Jerry s Kids 9-7 Tru-Biscuit & the Bears 5-11 The 40-Nothings 5-11 This past Sunday, we witnessed the teams of the Commissioner s League of Evil round-table defeat the other underfunded, small market franchises to climb up the branches of the 2017 Playoff tree. Seattle did get beat up and kicked out of the playoff hunt for the first time in 5 years, so that makes me feel pretty good, but the Brady Bunch, the Panthers, the Dirty Birds and those other Dirty Birds all got in. It ll be up to the Boyz N Black & Gold to save the world.
