Jack Addington Greeting from Rev. Marilyn Dear Friends, On the threshold of a New Year with a clean slate before me and a clear sky above, I am contemplating how I shall embrace this great opportunity. My desire is to live wholeheartedly in God in 2014 and beyond as I accept at a deeper level that I am rooted in Spirit and united in Love. When I ask myself what that means to me, I think of the quote from Dr. Holmes that goes something along this line: I shall stay with the One and never deviate from It, never leave It for a moment. Nothing else can equal this attitude for me. TO DESERT THE TRUTH IN THE HOUR OF NEED IS TO PROVE THAT I DO NOT KNOW THE TRUTH. When things look the worst, that is the supreme moment to demonstrate to myself that there are no obstructions to the operation of Truth. When things look the worst is the best time to work the spiritual principles, the most satisfying time and rewarding. When I can throw myself with complete abandon into that Limitless Sea of Receptivity, having cut loose from all apparent moorings, I shall be one of the many who will receive the greatest reward. As I read it over and over, I feel the power within these words and I remind myself of what I can do to stay fully grounded and rooted in this Truth so I am living wholeheartedly in God throughout the year. First: I shall remind myself there is only ONE power, One Life, God in and through all creation. God is All. Therefore, there is nothing against me, the All is for me. To help with this concept I ll post some quotes on the refrigerator door to be reminders: Erwin Schrodinger - Quantum physics thus reveals a basic oneness of the universe. Heraclitus - The Original Spirit is Harmony. It is Beauty, Truth and everything that goes with ultimate Reality. The Universe is not divided against itself. Ernest Holmes By Cosmic Consciousness I mean One s consciousness of his/her unity with the Whole. Looking at things from the belief that they are separate from the Divine Presence is like looking through dark glasses, while viewing all things as acts and manifestations of the Divine presence is to view them as they really are and have them given back to me as though God Himself had personally brought them to me. Page 2 Greeting from Rev. Marilyn Continued from Page 1 Second: I shall remind myself of my unity in God. There is One Life, that Life is God s Life, and that Life is my life now and forever more. Empedocles says, The Nature of God is a circle, of which the center is everywhere and the circumference is nowhere. Since this is true for me then I have access to the All all knowledge, wisdom, potential, the lovingness of the Divine and the richness in life. And remember, It is done unto you as you believe. I believe! I have yet another quote for post-it consideration: I believe in the absolute oneness of God and, therefore, humanity. What though we have many bodies? We have but one soul. The rays of sun are many through refraction. But they have the same source. I cannot, therefore, detach myself from the wickedest soul nor may I be denied identity with the most virtuous. Even if a hundred people were able to perceive the deepest stratum of reality and tap into the collective mind the ego would vanish for these people, and they would form a single consciousness just as the parts of a highly integrated person are integrated as one. David Bohm, Physicist. Yep! Living wholeheartedly for God this is a good reminder for my mind, heart and soul of my unity with the Divine. I like it! I like it! I ll post it! Third: Thoughts of Nelson Mandela are now popping into my mind. His life must have been transformed through the power of forgiveness. As I walked out the door toward the gate that would lead to my freedom, I knew if I didn t leave my bitterness and hatred behind, I d still be in prison. I ll just check in with myself and see if I am free. It could even be me that I need to forgive! This is another post-it on the refrigerator as I live wholeheartedly in God! Fourth: Gratitude is powerful. This must be part of my living wholeheartedly in God. From the Bible - In everything give thanks. Epictetus - He is a wise person who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has. John F. Kennedy - As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. This is good and very good! Gratitude is a high priority. It looks like I am going to have several quotes to post and I am going to need a few really big post-its. I best get to it, as I m looking forward to living my life in 2014 wholeheartedly in God. God Is the Only Power in My Life Jack Addington God is the only power in my life. Nothing from without can touch The perfect life of God Within Me. I am a Perfect Child of God. And nothing that anyone has ever done or said Can interfere with my Divine Inheritance. The power of God is greater Than any circumstance in my life. The strength of God is mine to use. Turning away from all feelings of inadequacy I discover that all that I need is Within me right now. As I forgive the past, I find that I have Nothing to atone for and nothing to run away from. Casting off the old me I discover my True Self. I take dominion in my life. Old habits have no power over me. Conditions have no power over me. Personalities have no power over me. I take dominion. I am Whole I am Free I am Complete Now and forever more. And so it is! If you would like to be a Board member you need to have taken Science of Mind classes; attend at least two Sundays or more in a month; be a tithing member; an active participant and committed to your own spiritual growth. Requirements for being a member of our Board of Trustees: 1. A foundation in Science of Mind through having taken SOM 100 and 200 series. 2. Uphold the teachings of Religious Science and exemplify the principles in one s daily life. 3. Attend the spiritual and social meetings of the center as often as possible. 4. Read and study Science of Mind literature and disseminate the same as much as possible. 5. Contribute regularly, as able, to financially support the center, knowing it is the level of your consciousness of prosperity that enhances the value of your tithe. 6. In so doing we will transform our lives, fulfill our dreams and open our hearts and minds to the presence of God in all with no exceptions. Change is constant and continues to take place throughout our world and all around each one of us. Howard Thurman wrote: Look well to the growing edge. All around us, worlds are dying and new worlds are being born. Dr. Holmes wrote in the Science of Mind: Just as instinct guides the animal, so would intuition guide man, if he would allow it to do so. We must deepen our faith, remain strongly rooted in Spiritual Truth and allow our intuition to guide us. We can only make a difference by committing to lift our own consciousness to new levels of peace, love and joy. This Center exists to support each one of us in this process of transformation by lifting our consciousness. With this in mind, we take this opportunity to ask you if this Center serves your spiritual needs. Change continues to unfold at our center and you can help us determine the direction in which to go. This year we have tapped into our savings in the amount of $5,787 to meet our financial responsibilities. We are most grateful that we have these resources, a gift from an endowment from Marjory Best through Rev. Jackie Johns. The balance in this account is about $20,000 as of November 2013. As of February, 2014 we will have 3 openings on the Board of Trustee, positions that will need to be filled with a 3-year commitment. The board will also need members to fill the positions of President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. The information on the requirements are listed in the newsletter should you be interested in becoming a board member. With all of this said, it s that time of year to ask you: Do you want to RENEW or DECLARE your membership as part of this community and participate in its growth as well as your own. These are great times to put your spiritual principles to work for you and for this Center and live wholeheartedly in God. Please let us know if the Center for Spiritual Living, Glendale is where you would like to do this level of growth. A part of this letter is a membership form which we ask that you complete and return to us prior to our Annual Membership Meeting on February 9, 2014. At this upcoming meeting we will need to determine what s next. If you prefer not to be a member, please let us know. If you do decide to make a personal commitment to being a declared member of this community, we are honored by your decision. Please note: Even if you are a member, we ask you to complete the attached form and send it in so that we may update our membership list; verify and/or update phone and mailing lists and add e-mail addresses. Finally, we wish to let you know that we have a parent organization, Centers for Spiritual Living, which we support along with other centers by sending a monthly tithe.
