B e t h a n y C h u r c h January 2015 Prayer Time Have you ever experienced eye rolling when you announce to the kids that it s time for your family devotion time. Or maybe you ve never had the courage to initiate devotions and don t even know where to start. Here are a few tips for enhancing your family prayer time. 1) Pray for everyone on your block or on your road. To expand on this idea, take a prayer walk around the block, praying for each neighbor as you pass their home. 2) Write prayer requests on small pieces of paper and put them into a box. During prayer time have each one reach into the box and draw out one slip to pray for. If you have pre-schoolers, you might draw a simple picture of the prayer request. 3) Keep a journal of answered prayer. You could call it "Our Memorial Stones"--significant times in the life of our family when God proved Himself faithful. 4) Design a prayer board. Tack requests on one side and move them to the other side when they are answered. 5) Say sentence prayers. Dad mentions a request, then one person in the family prays for it briefly. Follow this plan until requests are done. 6) One person mentions a request aloud and everyone prays silently for it. 7) Pray around the world for every country. Take one country each night and pray for the missionaries in that country, then take and mark an "X" on the map. 8) Have a "thank-you, only" night. Each person prays for as many things as he can thank the Lord for. 9) Pray in a different way each night of the week. MONDAY--Pray for a missionary or read a missionary newsletter TUESDAY--Pray for unsaved friends and relatives WEDNESDAY--Pray for people in the church THURSDAY--Pray for the kids at church or school FRIDAY--Pray for family needs With a little creativity you can move family prayer time from blah to blessed. Operation Christmas Child Every year, Kids Ministry collects Operation Christmas Child boxes. This year we encouraged the entire congregation to participate. Operation Christmas Child is a program through Samaritans Purse that allows us to fill shoeboxes with toys, candy, hygiene products and school supplies. These boxes are then shipped to needy children around the world with the Gospel, written in their language. As a congregation we collected 1512. At our Raymond campus we collected 361. A small box can have a big impact. What goes into the box is fun, but what comes out of it is eternal. Be a part of changing children's lives all over the world in Jesus' Name through the power of a simple gift with Operation Christmas Child. Christmas Gift Outreach On December 17 the Events Team held our 4 th annual Christmas Outreach at Lamprey Elementary School in Raymond. The wrapping process took a lot of time and allowed opportunities for conversations to happen. school allowing families who needed help with Christmas gifts to respond. We were able to help 51 families which included 118 kids. The congregation was so generous and it made a big impression on the parents and the school staff. On the day of the outreach we invited parents into a Christmas party atmosphere while their kids enjoyed their own separate party.
