March 3, 2019 8 th Sunday in Ordinary Time The words we hear from the Lord on this last Sunday of Ordinary Time are, For every tree is known by its own fruit. So how do you/we want to be known? What does our life/lives bear for others? Great questions as we move into Lent. So, now I get to ask the question: What have you planned for the Season? It is a season of Return to Me as our Lenten bracelets will announce. It is a season With Grace and Gladness as Fr. Tom Connery s Reflection Book suggests. So, what fasting will you take on? And not just the fasting from chocolate or coffee or drink, but the fasting from disrespect of others, the fasting from snide remarks or thoughts of hurt. What fasting will you take on? How about prayer? What additional prayer experiences will you take on? And by that I mean, what NEW prayer forms will you take on? Bible study? Women s Book Club? TMIY? Prime Timers Club? Family Night? Friday Stations of the Cross? Weekday? Holy Hour of Prayer before the Real Presence? What prayer will you take on? And almsgiving - what additional giving and sacrificing will you take on? How about spending an hour reading to our youngsters in PSR or the Day School? How about joining us at the Monthly Nursing Home Masses? Or bringing your neighbor to the Fish Fry or Sunday Mass? Or how about paying it forward for someone following you in the Drive-Thru? What giving will you take on? So Return to Me with all you mind, heart and spirit and know The grace and gladness of this holy Season. Ash Wednesday Masses: 9am, 10:30am, 7:00pm THANKS for your continued generosity in the Sunday Collection Father John

As we approach the close of the book of Jeremiah, we are strengthened by the promise of God s everlasting love. Join us for a reminder of how much we are loved and cared for. Quiet Prayer Quiet Prayer will meet on Tuesday in the chapel at 12:15pm. We will spend a full hour listening to the Thomas Keating CD Listening to God. We will finish at 1:15pm. Keating is very helpful in guiding us on our spiritual path. 12 Step Spirituality 12 Step will meet in the chapel on Thursday, Feb. 28th from 2:30pm - 4:00pm. We will finish our current discussion book. On March 7th we will begin a study of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. All 12 steppers are free to join us no matter what your compulsion may be. Family Perspective Jesus warns us not to be hypocrites. We easily and forcefully criticize and condemn others for their faults while willfully remaining blind to our own. Broadcast media gives us daily training in doing this and we readily participate through social media. Make the season of Lent a season to cultivate the virtues of patience and compassion towards others and humble honesty for ourselves. Pray more. Criticize and post less. If you will be having a wedding anniversary in the month of MARCH and would like your names listed in the bulletin, please call the parish office (440) 243-3877 or email jabraham1@stmaryberea.org Mother Teresa Love to Pray Love to pray - feel the need to pray often during the day and take the trouble to pray. If you want to pray better, you must pray more. Prayer enlarges the heart until it is capable of containing God s gift of Himself. Ask and seek and your heart will grow big enough to receive Him and keep Him as your own. Excerpted from: Love: A Fruit Always in Season Daily Meditations by Mother Teresa (Ignatius Press 1987) From March 6 - April 14, you re invited to join other Christians for 40 Days for Life. 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion. You re also invited to stand and peacefully pray anytime between 7am - 7pm during the 40 day vigil in the public right of way outside Preterm 1200 Shaker Blvd. Cleveland or Planned Parenthood 25350 Rockside Rd., Bedford Heights or Family Planning 54 South State St., Painesville. During this time of Tudor style and the invention of the printing press, English composer Thomas Tallis was writing music as a Gentleman of the Chapel Royal for royalty and church use alike. He mostly wrote pieces called motets, which is a short a capella piece of sacred music that is written in the style of two or more voices of individual melodies. If Ye Love Me is one from his lesser known English anthem collections for the Edwardian monarchy, but it is well known in the choral world and has even been sung for Pope Benedict XVI when he visited the Westminster Abbey in 2010. Because of the polyphonic nature of motets, it may be a little difficult to understand what the text is that we are singing. I have included the lyrics so that you can follow a long and hear the different parts of the choir singing independently! It is not an easy piece to learn and I hope that you can appreciate the hard work the choir has done! If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another comforter, that he may bide with you forever; E en the sp rit of truth. John 14:15-17 Choir Rehearsal Schedules: Traditional Choir rehearses on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm. If you are interested in participating in choir, cantoring, or playing an instrument during mass, please call or see Mrs. Angela Kovic after mass up in the loft.
