From The Acting Principal s Desk - John Downie How Can I be the Best Me? Yesterday was the celebration of Pentecost in the Church, a very important time in our history when God gave us, as followers of Jesus, the ability and I suppose confidence to spread His good news. This is the perfect time to stop and think about our Year 6 students who will soon begin their preparation for Confirmation - please take some time and say a prayer for our Year 6 students as they prepare to make their own choice to become adult members of our Church. School Disco run by our fabulous Parents Association This Friday is our annual school Disco which is a fantastic family event. For those who are new to our school disco, families attend together and can bring some snacks to enjoy with other families, while the children dance the night away. Please take note of the Disco Ad on the next page of this newsletter. The CDFPay option has now closed, but families are welcome to pay the $10 family entry fee at the door. Trinity Feast Day - Andrew Chinn workshops and concert This Friday, we will celebrate our Feast Day. Mrs Cascianelli has been organising a number of activities for the day, including workshops with Andrew Chinn. Andrew is a liturgical musician whose music features, and is a favourite, in many of our Masses and Liturgies throughout the year. Parents are welcome to join us for the the whole school concert at 2:10 in the Community Hall. More details are available in Mrs Cascianelli s RE page. Thanks to LINK Educational Supplies Thank you to Link Educational Supplies for donating some money to the school. Each year, Link donates a percentage of the book pack sales back to the school so that we can update resources. Their generosity is always very much appreciated. Pick up and Drop off zone Last Friday at assembly, I spoke to all students about the importance of getting in and out of the car on the passenger side (left side of the car, closest to the gutter). In the last few weeks, myself and a number of parents have witnessed a number of near misses in which children are getting in and out of the car on the driver s side, which places them in the middle of traffic. This is a tragedy waiting to happen, and I thank you for helping us to teach your child to keep themselves safe around traffic. Religious Education News - Louise Cascianelli BE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT Yesterday we celebrated Pentecost, the birthday of the Church and the end of the Easter Season. The Gospel for Pentecost reminds us that the Church begins with the command to forgive and that calls for us to learn how to forgive and how to accept forgiveness in our own lives. Both of these actions are made possible through our personal acceptance of the gift of the Holy Spirit and a readiness to want peace in our life. Some of our Year 3/4 students will be living out this action of asking for forgiveness as they prepare to make their Sacrament of Reconciliation on this coming Wednesday or Thursday night at St. Jude s. HOLY TRINITY FEAST DAY On this coming Friday 25th, May we will be having Australian religious songwriter and singer, Andrew Chinn, will be visiting our school to share his songs with our students. Andrew s songs, such as These Hands, Rainbow and We are the Body of Christ are used in classrooms and liturgies around Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada. Andrew started out teaching in Primary Education for 20 years, back in Sydney. He has taught all grades from Prep to Year 6. He started writing songs in 1993 and has since released 10 CDs, 6 picture books and 5 DVDs. He has his own website: www.butterflymusic.com.au, where you can listen to some songs, watch some video clips, and find out a bit more about his music. On Friday, Andrew will be working with each level to prepare a song for them to perform during an afternoon performance in celebration with our upcoming Holy Trinity Feast Day (Sunday 27th, May).
