When we celebrate our long weekend with our friends and family, help us remember, that our freedom to speak of you, and our freedom to worship you, and our freedom to do that which we ought to do, have all been bought at the price and sacrifice of many lives. Your Son died for our eternal life in heaven. So too, your children died protecting us here on earth. Help us be mindful this weekend and alwaysof the sacrifices made by those in uniform for all our freedoms. ~ Amen Prayer for Vocations Hail Mary, full of grace; all generations call you blessed. Hail Mother of God; when asked by the angel to bear the Son of the Most High, filled with faith, you responded: "Let it be done unto me." Holy Mother of Jesus, at the wedding feast at Cana, you prompted your Son to perform his first sign. Be with us as we discern our life's work and guide us in the way we are called to follow in the footsteps of your Son. Holy Mother of the Savior, at the foot of the cross you mourned the death of your only Son. Bless and embrace the loving parents of all priests, deacons, brothers and sisters. Holy Mother of the Good Shepherd, turn your motherly care to this nation. Intercede for us to the Lord of the harvest to send more laborers to the harvest in this land dedicated to your honor. Queen of Peace, Mirror of Justice, Health of the Sick, inspire vocations in our time. Let the word of your Son be made flesh anew in the lives of persons anxious to proclaim the good news of everlasting life. ~ Amen St. Michael the Archangel defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Hostby the Divine Power of Godthrust into hell, satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.

From the Pastor: This weekend we ponder the great mystery of the Holy Trinity. We ponder three distinct, divine persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) in ONE GOD. This is what we call the Holy Trinity. This is why we begin all prayers in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. This is why we baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. This is why the bishop, priest, or deacon blesses in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. It was Jesus command to his disciples. How can we personally know the Father and his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ? It is the Holy Spirit who reveals the Father and the Son to us and who gives us the gift of faith to know and understand the truth of God's word. Through the Holy Spirit, we proclaim our ancient faith in the saving death and resurrection of Jesus Christ until he comes again. The Lord gives us his Holy Spirit as our divine Teacher and Helper that we may grow in the knowledge and wisdom of God. Do you seek the wisdom that comes from above and do you willingly obey God's word? Jesus' departure and ascension into heaven was both an end and a beginning for his disciples. While it was the end of Jesus' physical presence with his beloved disciples, it marked the beginning of Jesus' presence with them in a new way. Jesus promised that he would be with them always to the end of time. He assured them of his power a power which overcame sin and death. Now as the glorified and risen Lord and Savior, ascended to the right hand of the Father in heaven, Jesus promised to give them the power of his Holy Spirit, which we see fulfilled ten days later on the Feast of Pentecost. When the Lord Jesus departed physically from the apostles, they were not left alone or powerless. Jesus assured them of his presence and the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus' last words to his apostles point to his saving mission and to their mission to be witnesses of his saving death and his glorious resurrection and to proclaim the good news of salvation to all the world. Their task is to proclaim the good news of salvation, not only to the people of Israel, but to all the nations. God's love and gift of salvation is not just for a few, or for a nation, but it is for the whole world for all who will accept it. The gospel is the power of God, the power to forgive sins, to heal, to deliver from evil and oppression, and to restore life. Do you believe in the power of the gospel? The Holy Trinity is sometimes a difficult thing to grasp. It is a mystery of the faith. Saint Patrick evangelized the entire country of Ireland with a very simple method. He used the shamrock (a three leaved plant) that we see in Saint Patrick s Day decorations. He spoke of three distinct leaves on one plant. Just as the church teaches that there are three distinct persons in one God. Today we look upon this great mystery and we are reminded of the Holy Trinity again as we prepare to begin Mass. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, & of the Holy Spirit, Amen. A special note of thanks to Monsignor Swaner for covering Masses this weekend. I will be attending the Ordination of Deacon Ryan Mattingly and Andru O Brien to the priesthood on Saturday, May 24th and will be attending Father Andru O Brien s first Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving on Sunday, May 25th at Saint Patrick s Church in Merna, IL. Please keep both of these men in your prayers as they prepare to begin their priestly ministry for our diocese.
