She is a United Church Diaconal Minister who serves as the Minister of Faith Formation and Pastoral Care at Forest Hill United. Copies of the budget will be available in the Narthex following the service today. Please take one home and read it in preparation for the budget meeting next week. Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (January 18-25, 2019) -The theme for the week of prayer in 2019, "Justice, and only justice, you shall pursue..." is inspired by Deuteronomy 16:18-20. The resources for the week have been prepared by members of different churches in Indonesia. There will be an Ecumenical Prayer Service at St. Francis of Assisi Church (organized by Forest Hill United Church) TODAY at 2 p.m. ALPHA Program 12-1:30 p.m. in the Lounge, Tuesdays January 15-April 16. This course allows you the opportunity to draw closer to God and to strengthen your faith. You are invited to bring your lunch. There will be a second ALPHA Program offered at 1061 Queens Blvd., Kitchener in the meeting room, 2:30-4 p.m. on the same dates. Rev. Frank will be running both programs. Ladies Fellowship will meet in the Lounge on Monday, Jan 21 (third Monday), at 10 a.m., for coffee and fellowship. All ladies welcome. Calvin Stampers will meet on Wednesday January 23, 7-9 p.m. in the Lounge. You'll make 6 cards and donate 3 to the church Pastoral Care Committee. The group is for people of all ages and levels of ability, even if you've never stamped before. New members welcome! Sunday January 27 - We are encouraging people to wear costumes or symbols of their Scottish heritage. The Congregational Budget Meeting will be immediately after the worship service. Taizé Service - Sunday January 27 at 7:30 p.m. at Calvin Church. A Taizé worship service involves sung and chanted prayers, meditation, a period of silence, liturgical readings, and icons. There is no preaching. The style of prayer practiced at Taizé has attracted many worshipers from around the globe and from many different denominations. The prayers consist of short chants, repeated again and again. The words are sung over many times. Your report is important for our congregation s 2018 Annual Report! Reports are due no later than January 29, 2019. Please email your report to Margaret Woods at margaret@calvinchurch.ca or drop it off at the church office. The final report will be emailed plus print copies available to pick up on Sunday Feb. 10. This will give additional time to read, reflect, and ask questions about the content of the report before the Annual Meeting on Sunday Feb. 24.

2019 February Potato Blitz for House of Friendship The goal in this community-wide campaign is to raise the equivalent of 300,000 pounds of potatoes in cash and potatoes, helping to feed hungry families and individuals throughout Kitchener and Waterloo. Volunteer Opportunity: Saturday February 9 at the Supermarket Blitz. Many people in our region depend on food hampers to feed their families. Help us raise cash and potatoes at one of two grocery stores: Sobeys at Fischer Hallman and Columbia or Zehrs at Conestoga Mall in Waterloo. Choose the 9-12 or 12-3 p.m. shift. If you are interested, please contact Grant Scott at 519-743-3367. Participate in the Potato Drive bring your bags of potatoes in to Calvin Church during the month of February. Make a donation in your church envelope marked House of Friendship. Friendship Visitation to Cuba February 25-March 4, 2019, the Mission and Stewardship Committee (chair Rob Johnston) is planning a trip to Cayo Coco, Cuba. We will stay in an all-inclusive resort there. Everyone is welcome to join the trip pay your own way. The price will cover flight, accommodations and meals. During this time, we will visit our partner congregation in Moron once during the week and worship with them on Sunday. These visits are optional. Let Rev. A few good men and women needed: The Board of Managers is currently looking for new members to sit on the Board of Managers. We meet the 2 nd Wednesday of each month. The Board of Managers manages the finances of the church as well as the property (maintenance & repairs). We also look after the rentals of the church.
