9th Kathisma Station 1: Psalm 64, 65, 66 Station 2: Psalm 67 Station 3: Psalm 68, 69 At Psalm 140 From the Octoechos for Tuesday Evening in Tone 8 6. If you, O Lord, should mark our guilt, Lord, who would survive? But with you is found forgiveness: for this we revere you. Tone 8: O Christ, most gracious, You were crucified upon the cross. Your hands and feet were nailed, and Your holy side was pierced, pouring upon me drops of divine salvation, blood and water to wash away my sores and filth. Glory to Your goodness, O All-compassionate Lord! 5. My soul is waiting for the Lord. I count on his word. My soul is longing for the Lord more than watchman for daybreak. Tone 8: O Master, You endured suffering in order 3
to grant freedom from passion to those who venerate Your Passion. Of Your own free will, You endured the cross, the lance, the nails, and the reed. Intercede, O Lord, that I too may obtain freedom from passion on account of Your holy Passion. 4. Let the watchman count on daybreak and Israel on the Lord. Tone 8: The undefiled Maiden, beholding her Son raised of His own will upon the cross, cried out with a pierced heart: Woe to me! my beloved Child; for they wish to deprive me of You Whom I so greatly love. See how the ungratetul ones have repaid You! Common for a Venerable 3. Because with the Lord there is mercy and fullness of redemption, Israel indeed he will redeem from all its iniquity. Tone 1: Your Feastday has arrived, O God-bearer. Brighter than the sun, your memory enlightens all who come to you in faith. O Isaac, intercessor for our souls, your soul is fragrant with immortality and you pour out healing for our souls. 4
Psalm 116 2. Praise the Lord, all you nations, acclaim him all you peoples! Tone 1: O Wonderworker Isaac, you subdued the sensual and bodily passions with the bridle of abstinence. On earth you displayed angelic zeal in subjecting bodily lusts to the spirit. In the heavenly courts where you now dwell, offer prayers for our souls. 1. Strong is the love of the Lord for us; he is faithful forever. Tone 1: O blessed Isaac, by discarding the old self and its urges, and by truly clothing yourself with Christ, you laid a foundation for virtue. And so, after repelling many hostile attacks, you became a guide for monks, O venerable One. Offer your prayers for the salvation of our souls. From the Octoechos for Tuesday Evening in Tone 8 Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and forever. Amen. Tone 8: When Your Mother saw You, O Lamb, being led away to be slaughtered, she followed You, O Word, crying out amid tears: Where are You going with such haste, my Child? I am going with You, my sweetest One; for I cannot bear to be without You, my Most Merciful Jesus! 5
+ + + + + + + Alleluia for Fasts Tone 6: Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Verse: Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at his holy mountain; for the Lord our God is holy. Alleluia! Verse: Praise the Lord forever. Alleluia! + + + + + + + Apostichera From the Octoechos for Tuesday Evening in Tone 8 Tone 8: Raised upon the cross, O Christ our God, You have saved mankind. We glorify Your sufferings. I have lifted up my eyes to you enthroned in heaven. Behold, as the eyes of servants are on the hands of their masters, as the eyes of a maid are on the hands of her mistress, so are our eyes on the Lord our God until He has mercy on us. Crucified upon the cross, O Christ our God, You opened the gates of paradise. We glorify Your Divinity. Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us; for we have been filled with shame; our 6
soul is all too full of the mockery of the rich, of the contempt of the proud. Your martyrs, O Lord, forgetting the things of this life and despising torture for the sake of the future life, were shown to be its inheritors. Therefore, they rejoice exceedingly with the angels. Through their supplications, bestow great mercy upon Your people. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and forever. Amen. When she who bore You, O Long-suffering Lord, looked at You nailed upon the cross, she mourned, and her tears sprang forth; and being amazed at Your surpassing goodness, she freely sang the praises of Your power with more than human compassion. + + + + + + + Troparia for a Minor Fast Tone 4: Rejoice, O Virgin Theotokos! Mary full of grace, the Lord is with you! Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. For you gave birth to Christ, the Savior and Redeemer of our souls. Prostration 7
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: Tone 4: O Baptizer of Christ, remember us all, that we be delivered from our transgressions; for you have been given grace to intercede on our behalf. Prostration Now and ever and forever. Amen. Tone 4: Pray for us, O holy apostles and all you saints, that we be delivered from danger and afflictions, for we have you as our fervent intercessors before the Savior. Prostration Tone 1: Beneath your compassion we take refuge, O Virgin Theotokos. Despise not our prayers in our need, but you, but deliver us from all dangers, for you alone are pure and blessed. 8
