What is The Red Headed Traveler? The Red Headed Traveler is an established travel and food blog focusing on cultural travel and global eats. It s told from the perspective of a history- obsessed bibliophile who searches for all things different from her everyday life both at home (the United States) and abroad. Blog posts run the gamut from reviews of hotels, restaurants, and attractions to itinerary planning to all things Disney Cruises and how to master the art of cooking ethnic food (there s no special skills involved, if you can read, you can cook). It also includes tales of studying abroad as well as the personal observations of being a part- time traveler and full- time worker. The Red Headed Traveler is a resource for anyone with a passion for culture and history and most importantly, trying new things whether it s food or experiences. The Red Headed Traveler is neither a budget nor a luxury blog, rather it s more middle of the road in the sense that a rich and meaningful authentic experience is what matters most, not a fancy hotel or the ability to get by on $50 a day. Who is Julie? By day I am a public librarian, at night a writer, and at all times of the day, an individual who is obsessed with travel, ethnic foods, and history. Traveling has always been an integral part of my life, starting with summer road trips in the family station wagon and continuing on into my university years where I studied abroad in three different countries (the benepits of majoring in Spanish even if my Spanish language skills were of no use during the summer I studied in Seoul, South Korea). I wasn t always the foodie I am today but am making up for lost time by learning about other cuisines through the art of cooking (i.e. trial and error) and going on as many food tours as humanly possible. The goal of my blog is simple- to inspire people, especially those who work full- time, to get out and travel, to make do with the resources you have, and most importantly, to learn about people and cultures unlike your own. However, what other blog offers such an eclectic array of content? On what other blog can you Pind content on Georgian food (the country), visiting Holocaust sites in Europe, itineraries ranging from 24 hours to a week, and discovering if a Disney cruise is right for you? I may have a 9-5 job, but The Red Headed Traveler is my heart and soul and this is why, after seven years of working it, the blog is still going strong.
