Potentate s Message Dear Nobles and Friends, It is a sad duty to give you my last message as the Potentate of Cyprus Shriners. I could write about the wonderful time we have had since my last message: the summer picnic, the Germanfest, Potentate s Reception, and the gun raffle. I am very proud of how the Divan and the Nobility have come together to make all of these events successful. However, I do not want this message to be retrospective of things that were; but rather, I want it to be a celebration of where we are as a Temple and what the future holds for all of us. I believe Cyprus is well positioned for prosperity and success. After three long years, our hard work has paid off and we have a new home on the corner of Frontage Road and Hannay Lane. After the renovations are complete, we will have a Shrine Center that we will own outright and that will serve our needs well into the future. Thank you to everyone who shared our vision and supported this move. It was sad to leave our old home that was created through the hard work of many of our Nobility, but uncertainty in membership and finances made staying there unrealistic. Going forward we will have a new home without debt that will allow us to better fulfill our mandate of having fun while helping our kids. This will be our legacy to the Nobility who follow us. Our annual Temple Meeting and Election of Officers was held on Wednesday, December 21st at 7:30 p.m. The Installation of Officers will be on Saturday, January 7th at 3:00 p.m. at our old building at 27 Hannay Lane, followed by hors d oeuvres and an open bar. Please look through the newsletter and review the calendar for further details on these opportunities to enjoy time with your friends and support your new officers of Cyprus Shriners. Finally, as I always say this time of year, please keep those who are less fortunate than we are in your thoughts and prayers this holiday season. Always remember that Shriners are men who are committed to God and family, engaged in ongoing personal growth, and dedicated to providing superior healthcare to improve the lives of the children and families we serve through our great philanthropy. Let us always keep these goals in our hearts and minds. It has been a great two years as your Potentate and First Lady. Lynn and I want to thank everyone for your help, support, and love. We have made many new friends and lost a few close ones. To paraphrase Jimmy Buffett, Some of it was tragic; most of it was magic, but together we have accomplished much and had great fun. And now it is time to pass the baton on to Tony and Pranit who will do a wonderful job if you give them the same help and support you have given to Lynn and me. God bless all Nobles and friends and the men and women in our armed forces wherever dispersed. Lynn and I are honored to have had the opportunity to serve you. We wish you and those you love a blessed holiday season. Yours in the Faith, John Illustrious Sir John W. Scott Coming in 2017 The next edition of Cyprus News is due in late February. It will have details about the St. Patrick s Day parade in Kingston on March 11. Make plans to attend Spring Ceremonial on April 22 at a new venue. Surprises are in store for 2017! Please support your new Potentate, Anthony Prizzia as we transition into the new building. You can reach Tony at (845) 691-2021 or email him at tjp2@optonline.net. Plan now to attend the 2017 Imperial Session. The 143rd Imperial Session of Shriners International will be here before we know it. The 2017 edition of the fraternity s biggest and most important event of the year will be taking place in Daytona Beach, Florida, from July 9 through July 13, and will be jam-packed with plenty of fun activities to enjoy. 3
