The opening report for the 2019 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal (CMAA) in today s bulletin details the many ways our annual appeals helps us offer Signs of Hope of God s work here on earth. The CMAA supports 30 ministries that benefit so many throughout the Diocese of Joliet. As you will read in the opening report, gifts to the CMAA make a difference to members of our parish as well as our friends and neighbors and our brothers and sisters in need. Please complete the pledge card you received from the Diocese of Joliet last month and return it in the provided envelope or bring it with you to Mass next weekend. Thank you for prayerfully reflecting on your gift to this year s CMAA and making the most generous pledge possible. Grief Support A Journey through the Desert this Lenten Season Fridays from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. in the Parish Office Conference Room March 8, 15, & 22 and April 5, 12, & 26 Have you experienced the loss of a loved one through death? Perhaps a friendship came to an end? Maybe a job that brought you so much life no longer exists. We all experience loss more often than we think. Sometimes that loss can take a toll on our own self. A six-week grief support session will begin on Friday, March 8th from 10am-12pm. For some, it is helpful to go on this journey with others. While no two people experience grief the same way, one can rest in the fact nobody has to grieve alone. Registration is helpful, but not mandatory. As we journey through the Lenten Desert, we remain hopeful in the resurrection that brings us abundant life! Register for either program via email to vzaprzal@ascensionofourlord.net or phone at 630-953-4415 or stop in the parish office.

Around the Diocese and Parish Neighborhood POVERTY also can be seasonal Just as we inevitably experience weather changes across the four seasons of the year, so, too, does poverty change during the times of the year that affect us in different ways. Few people in our area communities are poor throughout the year but may be stressed by lack of essential resources at one time or another during the year. It can be called seasonal or momentary poverty and is usually related to the effects of seasonal changes as we move through the year. WINTER: When utility bills rise dramatically because many are living in all electric homes or the flu or injuries hit us hard and prevent us from work or requires parents to care for their children missing school, those can cause people to become economically poor. Cars break down causing temporary loss of means to get to work and expensive repairs that can plunge individuals and families into a moment of poverty. SPRING: When final utility bills, accrued in a severe winter, are to be paid to avoid cutoffs and transportation costs rise, then many find themselves financially strapped to plan for friends and family weddings, school registrations and tuition costs facing them with growing bills and insufficient resources to meet all of them. SUMMER: Schools are out and children must be cared for 24/7 while expecting the pleasures of exciting outings and vacation travels. Plans for the coming school year and replacing clothing that their children are outgrowing become the major money concerns of many. FALL: The leaves fall, home repairs become urgent, rains and winds come in greater quantities and summer laborers try to find alternative incomes to make ends meet. Again with no real savings and paycheck-to-paycheck dependency, these changes lead to temporary poverty status for many individuals and families. The St. Vincent de Paul parish Conference works to make every year a four season year without missing a particular period of time that we cannot help others. And you our generous donors make that happen. By your help throughout the year and your continual prayers for our work, we are together able to help us help others. We thank you for all the good you do through us.

I promise you, in the excessive mercy of my Heart that my all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive Holy Communion on the first Friday for nine consecutive months, the grace of final repentance; they shall not die in my disgrace nor without receiving the sacraments; my divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in that last moment. Our Lord to St. Margaret Mary How to complete the First Friday s Devotion: 1. Receive Holy Communion on each First Friday; 2. The nine Fridays must be consecutive; 3. They must be made in honor and in reparation to His Sacred Heart. 12 Promises of the Sacred Heart to St. Margaret Mary 1. I will give them all the graces necessary for their state of life. 2. I will give peace in their families. 3. I will console them in all their troubles. 4. I will be their refuge in life and especially in death. 5. I will abundantly bless all their undertakings. 6. Sinners shall find in my Heart the source and infinite ocean of mercy. 7. Tepid souls shall become fervent. 8. Fervent souls shall rise speedily to great perfection. 9. I will bless those places wherein the image of my Sacred Heart shall be exposed and venerated. 10. I will give to priests the power to touch the most hardened hearts. 11. Persons who propagate this devotion shall have their names eternally written in my Heart. 12. In the excess of the mercy of my heart, I promise you that my all powerful love will grant to all those who will receive Communion on the First Fridays, for nine consecutive months, the grace of final repentance: they will not die in my displeasure, nor without receiving the sacraments; and my Heart will be their secure refuge in that last hour.
